Why the fuck are options so hard to grasp my head around? I just don't get it! Watching TastyTrade 'Where Do I Start' and it's just confusing me more and more the further I go into it!
Anyone able to help??
keep getting confused and keep at it. it's just another trading method. basically, keep an eye on the 3rd friday of every month and pick a stock that has options in dollar increments. i dislike higher increments
It's literally just legalized gambling. A side bet.
What's so hard about it?

I work as options trader @ HF and have extensive past experience from banks and prop trading companies.
It's simple: options are a complex matter and not meant for retail investors. There are some who are able to make consistent profits, but those are VERY rare (similar to the ratio from startups to unicorns, or college grads to nobel prize winners). Most of them have a past as professional trader and very deep pockets, too.
For starters:
>Learn about the greeks.
>Try and read McMillans book "options as a strategic investment".(There are downloadable pdf's, just google it)
If you grasp it, you might get a picture. If not, just accept the fact that this might not be the suitable asset class for you.
And no, I can not give you a "5-sentence canterbury-tale secret sauce" that leads you to everlasting perpetual profits. Simply because there is none. Also stay away from paid tutorials and classes, courses or workshops of any kind. They're either scam or useless. Sometimes both.
Becoming a succesful (options) trader takes lot of training and time. But first and foremost: MONEY. You will make mistakes while learning, and making mistakes while trading costs money. That's simple. And I'm talking amounts a bank can easily handle, but that will hurt you and could possibly lead to bankrupcy, taking margin calls and stuff into consideration.
I don't want to discourage you, but I think it's fair and important to let you know that option markets are though and really not made for anyone.
Hey /biz/, I sacked my financial advisor a little while ago, as he kept giving me shit advice, as well as refusing to handle leveraged ETFs, so now I come to you guys, with some basic investment questions:
> What's the cheapest way for me to buy and sell stocks by myself and not get eaten alive by fees? Do I still need to go through an investment firm? I don't know if this is common sense to some of you, but my old method was to just call my stockbroker and tell him to buy/sell my stuff. How can I do it myself?

Open an online account. If you want access to everything, interactive brokers is an option. If you just want a low cost broker, use something like schwab or ameritrade. Every time you make a phone call to buy or sell you will be paying the highest rate to do so.
Depending on who you use, how much you invest, etc. you may even get a number of free trades per month.
>>1255273
What was the shit advice he kept giving you?
I ask because if he wasn't willing to handle leveraged ETF's maybe he was trying to protect you from yourself.

robinhood, or something of the sort, free trades
>>Do I still need to go through an investment firm? I don't know if this is common sense to some of you, but my old method was to just call my stockbroker and tell him to buy/sell my stuff. How can I do it myself?

Yo /biz/, care to assist me with making a housing decision?
Currently making 3300/mo, after taxes. My rent is currently 675, but the apartments I'm in are old and pretty shitty. I'd like to move into a new place, but the place I'd like to move into is 1350/month. Is moving into a place with rent that high too high a risk, financially? I have access to 10k in credit, which I only ever use for point rewards or emergencies. So if, for example, I had a car issue or repair that was needed, I'd be able to at least cover it in the short term. I also have...

Tldr?

Yah, that should be fine. But I'd just be concerned about the lack of savings. My ratio is currently 37% after tax. It was 60% while I was living in San Francisco (which was not fine btw).
I'd just ask yourself if its really worth it. Is a nicer apartment really worth the extra $8100 a year??
Personally, I'd want that savings number at about 15+ grand before I'd consider moving.
>>1255102
I make slightly less than you, pay a couple hundred more in rent. I think you should stay where you are unless it's unbearable, but if it is try not to go too far past 900/mo. don't fall for the luxury apartment meme, I'll lose all respect for you, and you will for yourself.

/biz/ Help me understand this:
>Consumers are only starting to support the USA economy
>Federal Reserve Raises interest rates to make their mortgages cost more!
Isn't it a bit early to stomp on the brakes in the US??
Or does it mean imports from chima are cheaper so that will balance it out ?
>>1255042
Yes....*Chima .....you know... the Chimese
The feds are fucking retarded. They should implement negative interest rates.
>>1255042
Charge you to keep money in the Banks? Or just charge other banks to keep money in the FED bank?? .
Fucked if I know how it all works!!
Is the "bad economy" just a meme, looking back the economy has always been bad. Just in modern America alone we've had:
>recession after WW1, severe in europe
>then the great depression
>1937 recession
>WW2 happens
>then another recession after WW2
>50's and 60's were pretty good
>70's were completely fuckedComment too long. Click here to view the full text.

if the economy is considered good by the majority, that's a pretty good indicator that we're in some sort of bubble and it's about to pop.
life is about misery - it's unnatural otherwise.

>interest rates
>stopping a real estate bubble
Didn't Sweden try that a while ago and tumble into deflation because of that? I'm trying to find source but google is a nigger and is just giving me things about their now negative rates
Can probably secure a job there easily(got through screening). It's an Outbound position though so I'd probably be calling people to promote shit all day.
I'm not sure I can handle that mentally.

Trains leave without you every day; there's no way to catch them without luck.
Every day there's some penny stock out there that doubles in a few hours and then shoots back down again. No use kicking yourself for not riding the pump and getting out at the perfect time.
>buy and mine Bitcoin starting from when it was sub-dollar levels
>nothing to show for it except for lots of drugs
>buy Dogecoin at 62 satoshi
>sell at 79, completely miss the bubble
>buy MGT at $1.42
>sell at $1.72 on Friday, completely miss the bubble

I have a degree in STEM and what you said is BS.
Stem works best if you plan to be an entrepreneur. If youre just gonna be an employee nowadays Stem *might* bring you to middle-middle class. Unless you're a radio engineering wizard, you'd still be replaceable in an instant.
