What's the max rent I should be spending? Obviously I want to start putting money away in an accessible rainy day fund, not tied up in long term savings. So I need help figuring out:

traditionally 20% is considered the minimum you should have for a down payment. For a $150,000 property that would only be $30,000, if you can't save that much over the course of a few years then you need to find a better paying job.
