What's up /biz/ ? I am grown from a poorfag white trash family and I make $57k a year, which is double what anyone else in my family makes (I am considered "rich" by family). I don't have any debt due to this and I always buy cars with cash. I am looking to move out (I am 29, pay $300/mo to mother currently) and I am stuck in between the ideas of renting VS owning. I am not sure I want to own a house because I will have to maintain the property, the appliances, etc... On the flip side, rent is super-super expensive in my opinion, but I would not need a down...

So just pick the degree with the most taking orders and work (Quantum Nuetrino Physics in a cyber kinetic vacumm) and that degree will have the most value

Where do you draw the line between investing and gambling? Are speculators truly "investors?" I would consider myself mostlyba conservative investor. I like bonds and ETF's, I even understand using options as leverage in a market sector you have expertise and know trends in. But I don't understand how anyone who claims to be prudent with money could think it's a good idea to short options on futures, sell naked calls or toss their money into things like weather derivatives.

I don't think so. Companies spend millions to get a single drug through trials and most compounds don't make it to human trials or market. That's one of the reasons name brand drugs are so pricey, to recoop the costs of development and other failed drugs before the patent expires and generics flood the market. Too soon to tell.

So be me, twenty something whos spent most his life high instead of worrying about silly adult shit like credit scores and such. I'm in debt somewhere around the tune of 20k. Completely ruined my credit, in collections from multiple sources, and trying to undo years of recklessness. I've been avoid collectors and such for a minute now, been too broke and homeless to do shit about it. Finally landed myself a solid position again getting paid on the weekly, and I want to pay my debts. I've had people tell me to just file bankruptcy, but I don't want to do that....

I would look into a consumer proposal or bankruptcy. You will only attract debt consolidation vultures in your position. They might consolidate your debt but only to own you lock stock and barrel.
In this day and age I doubt you will ever get your credit back, stuff like this is the new foundation for economic slavery like the criminal record has been used so don't worry about it.

Your best bet is to file bankruptcy.

I own a small house in a desirable market (a nice part of Seattle) and I want to move into a bigger house a little bit outside of the city. I feel like the market is in a huge bubble right now (bought the house six years ago for $350k, did no work to it, am confident it will sell for $575-600k now). I probably don't want to spend more than $800k on the new place. Do I sell my place now and rent a place for a bit to see if the bubble bursts, or is it retarded to try and time the market? My next place will hopefully be a place I'm in for 10+ years, so maybe I shouldn't...

Im in a preety prestigious university. Over the years, I've met really nice people. Some of these are really smart and either landed extremely well paying jobs/started their own extremely successful business (like millions in revenue).
In the meantime, here I am barely achieving a 3.0GPA, not being able to get internships or jobs.
I cant help but feel miserable in comparison to them,even though ive already achieved more than the vast majority of the north american population.
any of you feel/felt the same? How did you turn out?
