I've had a pretty good lifestyle after learning a skilled trade. I'll be able to start my own business in 2017 after spending 8 years learning and working. It's awesome not having a student loan to pay back. Skilled trades are worth more than a lot of college degrees at the moment. Not enough younger people coming in to replace retiring workers which create shortages.
The real satisfaction comes when you own a business and don't have to get your hands dirty any longer.
I want to get my foot in the door in an industry with a lot of opportunity for career advancement. I am a highschool graduate without a college education at the moment but intentions to do so in the next 5-10 years as I settle down with my girlfriend (and hopefully future wife)
Currently I need to be making above minimum wage by atleast a few dollars and not in an absolutely humiliating position. Where should I start looking? I was thinking the hotel industry...

Is it possible to actually learn economics by myself without having to make another degree? Let's say a strong basis in maths up to integrals and a very strong statistics basis. Learning game theory up to Bayesian Games and The Myerson-Satterthwaite Theorem. An introduction then to Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Public Sector economics, based on 2-3 books. (including Basic Economics Sowell).
Would that do the trick and is it doable with some effort in 6 months? I don't see any reason why I should waste 3-4 years on economics alone. I can learn GAAP, IFRS...

Go to the websites of the top economics schools in the country. Print the syllabus of the classes you want. Read the material. You dont need a classroom setting to learn. Ive followed this piece of advice and i now own my own business which is doing extremely well I might add.

sorry for the kinda offtopic thread, but from earlier threads i know there are at least a few poker wizards here that post on /biz/, so im asking here for help.
recently i was accepted into a weekly poker cash money homegame (shorthanded 200-500nl) that a small group of entrepreneurs host and yesterday i took part in it for the first time. well.. i had a losing session despite being the most epxerienced player (albeit only online), because i had huge trouble trying to read them and exploit their weaknesses. im hoping if i share some details about last nights session...

some notes/reads on each player:

- wont fold on flop but folds more often than the others after getting 2 barrelled
- usually gets to the river with some showdown value, e.g top pair (any kicker) on any 3 straight or flush board
- sometimes announces that he hit the board (and more often than not he did) and trys to talk people into calling, probably thinks it makes him look weaker
- checks his cards more often when hes drawing

here are some of the main problems i encountered and some of the reasons why my original strategy didnt work out:
1) the game being 4 handed i couldnt play as tight as i wanted
2) raising up to 5x pre-flop did not reduce the number of callers, i ended up limping aswell
3) with 3 callers c-betting or bluffing to get them to fold isnt effective
4) usually failed to isolate certain players with my bets (as for 3 & 4 i have to admit i didnt try betting pot or more)

First of all, in poker you only truly make profit in the long run (thousands of hands) if you have an edge, short term winnings have more to do with getting lucky. Even the best possible situations (eg. pf all in with aces vs 1 other player holding rags), will result in you losing a significant percentage of times. The correct mindset is where you should start. You cannot go into a good game expecting profit. You can only go into a good game expecting to be making many +ev decisions, and your opponent to be making many -ev decisions.

Should I file for bankrupcy? Here is my situation.

I make like 5-6K / year under the table that I use to pay this shitty apartment. This all happened due to a failed business venture.
hit the phone book/google it. see a bankruptcy atty, consultations are usually free.
and if by gov debt you mean irs, its tricky. it has to be taxes owed that you reported to them and just never paid. they also have to be at least two years old. even when those two are met you also have to be all caught up on your returns (which you can do while filing). considering thats your biggest debt, if you cant include that its not worth destroying your credit for years to come over 20K.

Best way to invest $200? ok I know that is a very small amount but I am doing a project for school and started with $1500.
