A lack of IDs allows each post to stand alone and be judged on its content. You don't need to worry if people are "taking multiple sides" because there is no continuous identity on 4chan - you can judge each post on its merits, it doesn't matter if somebody posted from multiple...

I'm pretty anonymous on /pol/, just not within the same thread. I can't open a thread with one of the deformed kids advocating eugenics and then pretend to be a butthurt prolifer. On the other hand, I can certainly explore both sides of the issue by being clear that that's what I'm doing, or not taking a firm position. We're not diminished by losing that one...
