General threads have no place on most of 4chan. They exist to hole up entire realms of topics when a regular thread would do fine.
They're terrible on /h/, /tv/, /tg/ and all the boards they're on. I'm free to exclude /vg/ since it's part of the board, but if it's not part of the board then general threads and people who post them should get fucked.
It's like having a pokemon general on /vp/ or an mlp general on /mlp/.

So, is there a comprehensive list of banned words? Certain key words that you aren't allowed to post. I remember hands free fapping used to be a great one, but it's since been removed.

This used to piss me the fuck off back then. It was so infuriating being autobanned with absolutely no clue what I typed to trigger it.
