When did this happen? I see this sentiment echoed more and more with each passing day. It's not that I think we should be a free for all - I'm glad illegal content has mostly been eradicated but I don't understand the frame of mind of a person that thinks "hey, I want a super serious, logical, and civil discussion - what website should I go to? /v/ is usually shit, same threads every fucking day (pass the controller bro, etc.) though /v/ is alright when people actually talk about games, board culture is nice too

4chan might be one of the worst places to talk about sex on the entire internet outside of porn website comments.
This is the main reason why porn isn't allowed on blue boards.
The reason /a/, /mu/, /v/ and /tv/ manage to stay good is because they have a constant stream of new media to discuss. There's always new anime, new music, new vidya, new television to talk about, which is the livelihood of the boards.
Some other boards focus almost exclusively on old content and give little or no attention to new material. /co/ and /lit/ are guilty of this. And this is harmful to the health of the boards because you can only talk about Gravity's Rainbow so many times before it starts to feel tired and dull. Imagine what /a/ would be like if 90% of the board thought that most new anime was shit and only wanted to talk about Cowboy Bebop and Ghibli movies, and that's roughly what /lit/ is like.
Boards that don't have the benefit of an active industry or medium will run low on discussion topics and will devolve into the shit that you get on /lgbt/ and /r9k/ for instance.

Last week in a thread on both /a/ and /g/ I made over half the posts in the threads, using multiple IPs, taking posts from older versions of those threads from the catalogue and they all responded the same fucking way and it fell into the same arguments, and all I could do was sit back and watch, making posts ever other moment that did not relate to the stupid pointless arguments the rest of them were going on with. None of my fucking posts were deleted. The anons in the thread may as well have been fucking posting bots with programmed responses to input.
They newer generations of anons straight up have an autistic lack of imagination and seem to be on the constant backfoot, afraid of organic discussion and spontaneous expression; stuck in some sort of pavlovian conditioning.
