No m8 you got it all wrong. You get paid to be a mod on /tv/.

You just have to prove that you'll delete anything that gets in the way of all the officially approved commercial spam.

What's hiro's opinion on tripcodes?
The majority of the userbase want tripcodes removed or at least an option to enable trips when creating a thread. They're ultimately pointless to keep globally in all threads unless the OP wants to identify himself or for niche purposes, which can be solved by having an option for the user.

Filtering tripcode abusers is what the majority of people do but not even that stops then from others replying to them and thus derailing the thread. Even if you filter, you have no control of the other people in the thread derailing it because one person decides to attach a signature with the help of the name field being abused.

Pic related is the last poll we had for tripcodes.
https://strawpoll.me/5559629/r

>67% in total for removing (40% want the option to enable tripcodes when creating threads)
>34% for keeping tripcodes
80 posts and 14 images submitted.
>>
Why take freedom away from the user? Tripcodes can be very useful in certain extremely specific situations, like generals, q&as, OC threads etc. As long as the majority of users shame, dismiss and filter people who use tripcodes to attention whore, as they do, I see no reason to remove them.
>>
Tripcodes are inherent part of imageboard culture.
People who want attention will find another way to piss you off.

Have you ever managed to successfully force a meme?
27 posts and 12 images submitted.
>>
No but I managed to convince moot to rename /jp/ into Otaku Culture, which in turn turned into a meme, if that counts.
>>
I usually join forced meme trains on /g/ because it's so shit that even that garbage is more entertaining than the average thread on the board.

Only the "Apple users eat shit from their hands" one has really been successful though.
>>
I forced a big dank meme into your mom's vagina if you know what I mean

Hey Hiroshimoot you really need to address the /d/ problem. Thing is, /d/ has always been the placed for fucked up cartoon porn, from both East and West. It exists as a containment board for /h/. No one cared about region distinctions. But since they creation of /aco/, the rules at /d/ have tightened and simultaneously/aco/ has relaxed. Now there are two factions in /aco/, the /d/ posters and the people who actually wanted this board for it's intended purposes. It's a mess. No one likes when a containment board leaks.

But good news is, it's easy to fix. All you have to do is tighten rules on /aco/, have it be more vanilla and less perverted. More importantly, you should allow Western porn in /d/. Litterally no one cares about the distinction except the mods. If you can do this, then you are a star in my eyes.

Thanks,
A misplaced /d/eviant.

The fact is that the people who wanted /aco/ in the first place aren't happy because they wanted NSFW /co/. The people who were forced off /d/ aren't happy because a lot of their threads got wrecked and now they're scattered between two boards for niche things with a scarce amount of content and every time they post a thread, they get bombarded with posts going 'What's the appeal?/You're sick/How can you like this?' etc. The only people that are happy are autists who get off by insisting they're right.

Not to mention some types of thread, like the elastic girl stuff, have just vanished entirely from the site where before they were a steady feature on /d/.

/aco/ was a complete fuck up and it's all thanks to the autistic mod who has a hate boner for anything that isn't futanari.

>>

agreed. i miss the old /d/. /aco/ is weird
>>
Make /aco/ just a rule 34 board and bring back old /d/. Or, modify /d/ to be the fetish board. All fetish material, east and west, goes to /d/. Some fetishes are just too niche to be split between two boards. But all the fetishes together have enough content to fill out a board. And all the weebs that cry about it can just fuck off. Problem solved.

You're destroying your own site 6 gorillion times more effectively than any redditor ever could. All it does is lower the signal-to-noise ratio even further, because it's not like any tourist actually takes those repetitive comments seriously.
So do us all a favour and channel your impotent spergouts into a text file. Print and send it to Penn Jillette if you want someone to read it.

this, if you don't act like a reddit user you won't get told to go back to reddit. i have never been told to go back to reddit(though I assume salty redditors will quote me and do just this to "get" me)

the biggest problem with this fucking website is nobody lurks anymore, and nobody wants to assimilate into the site culture anymore

people just come here from whatever shithole site they came from and expect the userbase, rules, and mods to all change to their liking

gee where do we see a parallel to this in real life

Its clear now to everyone on here and on most other boards like /d/, /aco/, /v/, and /tv/ that the boiling point between mods and users has now been reached. Except for boards like /a/ and /jp/, the mods have been acting like complete nazi's, banning people who dare to criticize them on any other board besides /qa/, leaving up shitposts for hours without deleting them, leaving up off topic threads without deleting them, and simply not caring at all about the board they're supposed to take of. IRC logs that were leaked earlier this year showed that the mods hate the user base on this site, except for /a/ because the mods seem to legit care about /a/. But other boards such as /d/ have become draconian in nature. Its slowly dying because the mod on /d/ deletes and bans anything he doesn't personally like.

However the users are also at fault here. No one reports shitposting it seems, save for /a/. We have an invasion of people flooding /v/, mostly from Reddit, Neogaf, Facebook, and Tumblr, who are now starting to spill into other boards like /mu/. /v/ is literally ground zero for the infestation now, and nothing has been done to stop it. The users vile attitude towards the mods, while at times justified, is not helping matters either, as this make the mods more and more angry with the user base. One could also say that telling people to go back to Reddit is another cause of issues, as is telling people to "ignore" the shitposts instead of reporting them like they should be doing since the beginning.

Either way, both sides are at fault for the way 4chan is now: Mods for hating the user base and becoming Nazi's and lazy asses, and the user base for not trying to fight back hard enough against shitposters. THIS MUST STOP! Nothing will ever get done at this rate. Its getting worse and worse on 4chan now, and I can see why many older users are leaving the site to go elsewhere.

I don't know what the fuck Hiro has been doing, but he needs to start interacting with the userbase and getting to know us and our issues with the boards. He hasn't' said a word since the malware incident, and even when he addressed it the problem still didn't' get fixed, and its still there on the front page. I don't what our future is going to be at this point, I really honestly don't. If nothing gets fixed soon, 2016 could be far, far worse than this year was.
>>
And one more thing to the moderation team: If you're going to view complaints about moderation as "spam" now and ban people for it, why don't you actually start doing your job and delete off topic threads that really are spam
>>
when you have moderation without controls or accountability, then this happens every time and on every discussion site.

other sites have adapted and made the mods and admins accountable by making them public, for starters. 4chan is one of the rare sites where mods identities are unknown to other users. There is no reason for this other than to encourage abuse.

/vg/ was an endorsement of generals and if it was a mistake they would have deleted it years ago. Deal with it.

The time has come to seriously discuss what we're going to do about this problem. It's high time we deleted or merged some boards - now which ones?! There's more than a few that need deleting. Time to start picking and choosing them. Helpful suggestions in the picture are made.

Too many users, unless you mean it's just for you. That might be a neat feature but probably wouldn't be a /board/ exactly.
>>

>just for you
Yeah, that's what I mean.

It would be a pretty easy thing to do, even for 4chan devs.

It would have to be a dynamic web page and display different threads based on the users IP address and post history.
>>
>>382626
Most people these days have a dynamic IP so that wouldn't work.

I don't quite understand why you would want this anyway.

Hi, Hiro, /pol/ user here.

I would just like to inform you I've found a bug that might be a security risk.

You can "linkify" URLs without a user having the "linkify" settings enabled.

For example:
https://sys.4chan.org/%64erefer?url=www.youtube.com

Also, there doesn't seem to be a lot of validation as it works with non-links too:
https://sys.4chan.org/%64erefer?url=hello%20Hiro

Just a friendly reminder that /pol/ has 4chan's best interests at heart and we'll always be looking out for 4chan.
17 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
Has it been fixed already?
>>
the only security risk would be if someone attached a redirect but even then it would be fucking obvious IP or long string of seemingly random numbers, located after an @ or before the URL.
>>
>>384932
plus theres a proper place to report security risks, and it isnt here
