This is a weeb site created by weebs for weebs. But weebs don't want to just talk about weebshit all the time, they're fine with talking about other subjects as well. So over time, boards that aren't specifically about weeb subjects were added. But these boards were not added for non-weeb audiences, they were added for weebs who wanted to talk about those other subjects as well.
/g/ was created for weebs who besides weebshit also like computers and technology and shit.

And since the weebs built themselves a successful, entertaining site, they started to attract non-weebs to the site. While you're supposed to have /a/ as your primary board and /k/ and all the other boards as your secondary boards, this led to arrival of people who use, for example, /k/ as their primary board but have no interest in /a/. At first it wasn't that bad since the "4chan secondaries" were a minority, and they knew they were at a weeb site so they didn't complain about seeing weebshit, but over time, as their numbers grew, more and more people who were completely unfamiliar with weeb heritage and history of the site showed up, people who think anime is just another interest of this site and not the main interest of the site. So these newbies started getting more and more hostile to weebs, since they don't understand why posting weeb images outside of weeb boards is allowed, and don't realize that all of 4chan is a weeb site.

4chan came from SA. ADTRW (the anime subforum) was only half of the population that came over. The other half wa FYAD, who were not weebs and couldn't give less of a shit and routinely trolled ADTRW.
Hence the anime/random board being split into /a/ and /b/ making two separate boards. Because weebs got so fucking assblasted when FYAD trolls bombed them on 4chan and didn't have the rigid moderation SA did to stop them, that they needed their own board. Hence why /a/ is now "elitist" when in reality the elitism was over just not feeding trolls. Not because the board was special. Other weeb boards aren't like that; namely because those boards weren't around yet and didn't share the same board with FYAD trolls who would later go on to become /b/.
