when people are talking about textboards, they mean 2ch-style boards that were once hosted on dis.4chan.org, for example https://dis.4chan.org/prog/.
A year ago, moot decided to remove them completely. Before that time, they were in a read-only, archive-like state. While they never were as popular as the imageboards hosted on boards.4chan.org, they still had their small, active and dedicated userbase. I believe you should give textboards on 4chan another chance-- the more diverse, the better, right?
I honestly appreciate it that you responded to these requests with the creation of >>>/news/ -- but it just isn't the same kind of board I, and other users, were expecting. It basically is just an imageboard without the ability to reply with images.

I know, I don't speak for everyone. But I believe the re-introduction of the classic textboards 4chan once had would benefit the community.

I was never a fan of the dis.4chan.org boards, but I did post on Secret Area of VIP Quality for a brief time, and did like it. I'm down for this.
The only thing I'd say though is maybe keep the normal imageboard stylesheet -- those old textboards are butt ugly, even for the 90s and early 00s. I'd suggest forcing a consistent but small OP image as well, just to break up the vertical space and make it clearer where one thread ends and another begins.

A textboard counterpart to /g/ would probably be a pretty nice place since shills and shitposters wouldn't be able to bait as easily, and it would mostly attract autists who would keep plebs out

How does 4chan alter the uploaded images?
For example, take this image here.
When I upload it to 4chan (just as I did now), 4chan changes the content. The filesize actually gets bigger and the MD5 checksum changes. So when I download it from 4chan it has a different content than the original one at http://i.imgbox.com/CYxDEuzl.jpg
Could the admin or some other knowledgeable person tell me the script (I guess it's some PHP routines) how the images are altered?
I think it just does stuff to prevent abuse or similar things. Like some pictures taken from digital cameras or phones have extra information in them and it strips it out.
There was also something about a bot that would upload malicious images telling people to rename them to ".hta" and run it, so I'd imagine when 4chan it resaves the image it gets rid of things like that.
