A grab bag of animated media and inside jokes
/gif/ is one of the most heavily trafficked adult boards, but of all the adult boards, it probably has the fewest restrictions on content. essentially anything animated (webm or gif) format is allowed, with the exception of content exclusive to /b/
In my view this is really a problem from a user perspective. /gif/ is overwhelmingly a porn board: between 80 and 90 percent of all threads posted on /gif/ are porn related. however, unlike other porn board that give guidelines for what can and can't be posted, /gif/ is pretty much anything goes: gay, straight, trans, animated, 3D, fetish, and so on. All these threads have to share a space with each other and appear side by side.
I think most /gif/ users fall in the category of fairly vanilla tastes when it comes to porn. This means they do not consume (or even want to see) non-vanilla content, i.e. scat, torture porn, bestiality, sissy, gay/trap, futa/shemales, BBW, cuck porn, and so on. Having this content share space with vanilla content makes for a lousy user experience. There is nothing more irritating than wading through the piles of shit posted on /gif/ to find something decent, all the while having your boner killed by scrolling past some heinous trap shitting into a cup or two morbidly obese women 69ing each other. This content is repulsive and does not belong on the same board as vanilla content.
We have enough sense to divide up our other adult boards, for instance /h/ and /d/, /u/ and /y/, /s/ and /hm/ and /hc/. The yaoi users do not want to see yuri content; the /s/ users do not want to see gay content.
I therefore propose splitting /gif/ into two separate boards: /vgif/ (vanilla gif) and /dgif/ (alternate gif).
The former will include only vanilla content and non-offensive YLYL. Vanilla content is described as male on female or female on female, or female solo. No unusual fetishes are permitted (for instance, big tits are fine, but pissing is not).

The latter board will be for everything else, and essentially an anything goes board (exception content banned outside of /b/). This will include NSFW gore threads, which are also atrocious erection killers. In my view, gore and rekt threads are not nearly as much of a problem as the shemale/trap/scat/horsefucking/etc threads, because the thumbnails (which is all the average vanilla user will ever see) are generally not a problem to scroll past. It's the nasty porn stuff that needs to be moved to its own board, because the thumbnails are more the capable of heeming your wood.
I hope we can have a sensible discussion about this, because it is becoming a bigger and bigger issue as time goes on. I am often afraid to even browse /gif/ these days because there is so much foul content on plastered across it. It makes for a shitty user experience and there is a simple solution that would please everyone. Vanilla users need never go to or see any of the content posted on /dgif/, whereas /dgif/ users are free to browse the content on /vgif/ as they like. It's a win win.
