/heem/ is the mma general on /sp/
This canadian guy keeps making new threads that are intentionally shit (e.g. uses the same dumb image every time, doesn't put any useful info in the OP, puts links but breaks them, etc) when there are a lot of people who are willing to make good OPs with useful information.
He does this purely to satisfy his craving for attention and annoy other posters.
When people make other threads, mods delete them even though everyone is posting in them.
There is no rule against creating multiple threads about the same topic. Mods should allow posters to post in whatever thread they want. If mods just need to delete duplicate threads, they should delete the one with 5 replies in over an hour, not the one with 200 replies. It wouldn't take much to just check the reply count instead of just arbitrarily deleting whichever thread was made later, or just deleting all of them.
I know this is dumb, but it's been happening very frequently the past few weeks due to this canadian's increased dedication to shitposting.

"Vidya culture" is just a buzzword people use to discuss off topic bullshit.

Take CWC for an example. Sure, it's fun to watch autism, but how the fuck is he linked to video games other than the blue-armed menace?

Epic meme

He didn't say that. It exists in that form, but it's instead used as a buzzword to discuss off topic bullshit.

What fandom do you find the most abhorrent?

There is literally no reason not to allow WebMs encoded with VP9. It saves bandwidth both for the users and the server. Opus would also be a nice addition for the two sound boards. Youtube already uses this for virtually all videos.

It would be cool if VP9 also saved CPU usage for thumbnailing

A example of scraper site is sheekyforums. It steals threads from here with the purpose of ad revenue. A example of "good" usage of 4chan's API are the archives. Needless to explain what a bot is. Cornelia is an example of bot.

I've noticed the prevalence of a culture of "no handholding" all across 4chan boards. Most notably on /v/, but it's kind of present everywhere.
What I mean is that people will make the shittiest of OPs (no mention of the subject name, pic is unrelated, etc) and if you ask for more details, they'll fling shit because they don't want to hold your hand. As in, if you aren't already familiar with the subject, they don't want you in their thread. What they don't realize is that 75% of the time, this will just hurt the longevity of their thread and make it impossible to look up in the catalog. Does this frustrate anyone else as much as it does me? I almost think there's nothing we can do except give OPs like this shit and don't respond to them.

It's an old cultural carry over from previous eras. Back then people were still afraid of foreign cultures "normalizing" the website even before Reddit existed.

At the time since 4chan was weeb they really feared Gaia users, which were known to go into anime loving communities and sperg out. So customs were introduced to make it as difficult as possible for new people to use the website.

A core centerpiece was to lurk before posting, where the general idea was to ask people to not post until they have fully gotten a grasp of the culture here. To better enforce this, Actions such as handholding and giving new people information was frowned upon.

Back then 4chans interface was enough to deter most forum users at the time, such as requiring noko to return to your thread after posting. Even though moot had this info in the QnA nobody ever read it and this was beneficial as the cancer of that era would grow frustrated with the website leave.

In this modern era a lot of old customs have essentially died as traffic overwhelmed previous users who couldn't put newfags in their place. The interface is simpler, fun board "secrets" such as fortunes have been stripped from most boards which means no more stuff to hide from newfags to make them frustrated. But despite this, some things stick strongly and one of them is to avoid handholding.

Sometimes I feel like when those janitor/mod recruitment calls come, I feel like I should apply for them because I feel like I can objectively help boards I visit; specially when they get crowded with spam during hours of the day the already installed jannies aren't on.

But thing is, the forms ask me for e-mails and usernames and I'm like

Do I have to be a tripfag to become a useful person for 4chan?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
you don't have to be a tripfag, but you do have to give the staff some kind of a name to call you. you can still be anonymous to other 4chan users.
>>
>>438595
But it doesn't necessarily means it has to be something related to 4chan, right? Ever since I started posting here I took a posture of having no name, except for a month or so where I posted on MTG Rule threads in /tg/ (one of those places where you really need to use tripcodes to be useful).
>>
>>438597
it'd probably be better if it had nothing to do with 4chan. then when some disgruntled staff member leaks more shit, no one will be able to say "oh shit that tripfag i hate is a janny, i better shitpost furiously and make his life hell".
