I've never understood how the whole "donating to charities for a tax deduction" works.
Sure, those donations are tax-deductable. But so what? Just keeping the money and paying taxes on it leaves you infinitely further ahead than giving it away and having zero of it left.

/biz/ I come to you humble, hungry and desperate. During college I had a trust fund which I not only burned through, but during the process managed to racked up 10k in credit card debt. I have paid off $3,500 in credit card debt and have budgeted myself to hopefully pay off the rest within a 16 month time frame.
I am living a very different lifestyle from when I was racking up debt as you can imagine, and am well on my way to working my way out off the hole I dug for myself. The issue is now the company I work for is very dependent upon the value of oil, and risks going...

Anybody here have experience in monetizing a Youtube channel? I'm about to produce videos for someone who has reasonable name recognition, and I'm almost 100% certain these videos will garner a could hundred thousand views apiece (in 2-3 months). The niche we're in will have viewers that are highly likely to click+buy from advertisements, and the niche is relatively unsaturated. Not a even close to a camwhore/youtube personality
Would there be any benefit to having a website for my videos? As in potential additional monetization?

YouTube unfortunately is always the way to go, unless you already have a large following and even then most would be unwilling to move to a different website to watch videos.
disclaimer: i think about and research this a lot but i haven't done it yet.
imo the only advantage to having a website would be that it would be easier to seo than a youtube page because google gives you points for having the domain name be the searched-for keyword, which should not be hard if you have a sufficiently unique channel name. probably not worth the cost of hosting and (opportunity) cost of design.
also +1 backlink each way is nice. every little bit matters.

Is it something that is patentable? If so I'd get a patent first. Then make up a prototype and drawings, check with some manufactures and find out how much a initial production run will cost you. Get pricing on packaging and advertising. Once you know that you can figure out what your selling price is depending on whether you're going to wholesale or retail the product and still make a profit. The turn on your inner salesman and go to work.
