need to get a new car. planning on getting a used hybrid hatchback. So that I have money to spend on things like firearms and motorcycle.
Choice is between Insight and Prius. The Prius is faster, more economical, and larger on the inside. The Insight can actually be found for a decent price and mileage combinations. Otherwise they are both reliable boring appliances.
Have you got a spreadsheet with all the ownership costs of hybrid vs a more traditional drivetrain?

The used car lot said they were closing down so all their cars were basically sold for the same price they bought them at. What are some common issues and things to look out for in these trucks? Things to be aware of?

Look for common issues that any older high mileage vehicle would have; rust, worn suspension, oil leaks, etc.
I'm actually looking for a manual 4Runner myself at the moment. The older 3.0 wasn't as 'good' or reliable as the newer 3.4 though. Keep that in mind.
See if you could get it for below $3k, maybe $2500, or even $2900.

Why do most people park their cars outside?
I'm not a home owner yet, but if I had my own garage I would park my car inside of it everyday. If you give a damn about your car, you should be parking it in the garage too. Outdoor parked cars get fucked by intense hot or cold weather, direct sunlight for hours on end, rain, dirt in the wind, and perhaps other conditions that aren't immediately coming to me.

I used to think that the US had the best car culture and enthusiast scene but then I went to Europe and they are on a completely different level there.
In Europe everyone is a car "enthusiast" in the way that they take great care of their cars and they are serious about driving.
In Germany I routinely saw people check tire pressure and oil level while waiting at the pump. Meanwhile we drive around with the check engine light on for thousands of miles because we don't give a shit.
