Hi /o/, i'm seeking a bit of mechanical help. I can't find out what wrong on my moms car.
She drives a Kia Rio 5 2006 and after having changed the battery and the windshield washer pump, and by mistake leaving the key in overnight (thus completly draining the battery), the car wouldn't start. It cranks, but it doesn't start.
Therefore, I checked the ignition coils but there aren't any voltage between the two connector connected to the top of the coil when the motor was cranking.
I was wondering what could cause this problem.
Thanks.
my volvo will do the same if the battery is just the smallest bit low
it will crank forever but not start. i would check the voltage.
FIRST
Did you charge the battery
I've seen on other cars sometimes after the battery is disconnected and reconnected the ECM won't pick up the crankshaft position sensor, you can try to unplug it and plug it back in, or disconnect the battery and and reconnect it after a bit, then crank it again.
I'd suck a duck for a sporty car that is under $5,000
Doesn't even have to be a coupè

I have a BAFX Bluetooth OBD2 reader and the torque app for display. I haven't used it to read codes yet or anything but it's a highly recommended setup for the Bluetooth route.
>>13944246
I was looking into the Torque app, how responsive is it really? I kind of assumed it would be laggy and inaccurate.
I've had this exact one plugged into my car for a little over 2 years, zero issues, it's like $4.
>>13944290
I use it, for the live info there's about a half second delay, but it does pick up everything you have a sensor for accurately, and it'll do things like place a pippers for min / max readings.
My clothes left stains like this on my leather seats what the fuck

Does brake fluid evaporate?
I noticed my fluid levels were low and brakes spongy. I'm going to top off with an open bottle of DOT fluid for now since I don't have shit ready for a full bleed.
no but it is something you are supposed to change every 2 years since its alcohol based
>>13943931
No, it absorbs water over time, and becomes less effective and rusts your lines.
>>13943931
Not exactly evaporate, but in rubber brake lines, it'll vanish in time, yes. The worse off/older the lines, the faster the shit is gone. Steel lines aren't holding forever either, keep in mind.
The stuff also gets old and thus loses its properties. Regular exchange recommended.
Is it just me, or it lost all its charm?
Video strongly related.

Feels even slower than EP3. Vtec is kill. N/A is kill. Why would anyone go for this instead of any other turbo shitbox out there? 6,5 sec fwd isn't impressive. We have GTI, Asta OPC in Europe, Megane RS, Focus RS and few others. All these cars pack more punch and have certain character.
Now, we all admired honda for this doron-don-don get low rice-ish thing. So why the new type R?
>>13943804
I like it.
Not really my thing though, since most all of my vehicles have been rwd, and that's pretty much my comfort zone.
what happened to the god damn nsx is a better question
>>13943804
You do realize that wasn't a hard launch to get an top out 0-60, right? Getting a casual 6.5 for 0-60 is very nice.

europe is a socialist shithole where no one owns cars but the lucky few who get to own ancient shitboxes.

/o/, Whats the best car under 8k with a 0-60 of atleast 6-6.5 seconds, but, also handles very well? I was considering a miata, but, being an amerifag, and the fact that most roads out here are straight, I was considering something with power>handling. Bonus points if muscle car, I've always been fond of shelby gt's, but, obviously, I can't afford one yet. And how would insurance be for an 18 year old, on such a car? I've heard of some people having to pay more than 300 or 400 a month, just because they are under 25 or 21, fuck that. I mean if I have to...

Excluding maintenance costs: an E39 540i can be gotten for 10k
How does this compare to a real car?
Obviously there's no "feel" of it, but can it at least get me started with learning how to drive a manual?
>>13943459
>but can it at least get me started with learning how to drive a manual?
no
>>13943459
Haha nope..you don't have the feel of the centrifugal forces, or any forces for that matter, that play a big role in driving manual
>>13943459
You could triple the price that you bought that for and get a beater manual.
What's /o/'s opinion about semi-automatic transmission?
>>13943385
Is this about automatics with manual modes or flappy paddle manuals or what?
Have a 07 Acura TL S type with this. It's an older one but almost never drive it in manual mode. There's a very noticeable delay between pressing the paddle or stick and the car shifting. On the other side though, it will hold the gear you put it into unless it decides you're too close to the limiter or making a stupid choice (Won't let you try to start in anything except 1 or 2, won't let you select inappropriate...

On supercars or sports cars and the like it's better than manual, though not as fun.
Daily drive, I prefer it. I like to be able to have a bit of fun while not being enslaved to a clutch, especially in heavy traffic.
Can any Volvobr/o/s tell me if the non-turbo 98-2000 S70s are considered reliable? I've found a few with just over 100k miles for dirt cheap and I was wondering if they would make a good DD
with few exceptions the best volvo are manual transmission and turbo
thier autos are meh thier.
so if you want one find one thats been well maintained (has new struts etc) and preferably isnt the auto
>>13943312
what's wrong with the auto trans? besides just the driving control, are they prone to mechanical issues?
are there any electrical issues to worry about? is the 5 cyl an interference engine? does it use a timing belt or chain? PCV issues? anything in particular that would cause it to not be considered?
Other than austim, why does /o/ circle jerk over 2 door vehicles?
