I ask because the internet recommends 5w40 in my car, but the manual recommends 5w30. i'd hate to get shat on for using oil that deviates from the manufacturer spec.
yeah it's actually against the law to not use the manufacturer recommended oil.
they have little scales they use to weigh droplets of oil, and most wont let you leave until an officer arrives to write you a ticket.

They never even look at that if your concern is engine related they will probably just have a visual inspection of the oil level/condition but I have never heard of dealerships checking oil by analysis.
I run 5W40 in my Crown Victoria which calls for 5W20
I run 5W50 in my Maxima which calls for 5W30 and 5W40 in temps above 18 celsius
I run 5W50 in my 350z which also calls for the same as the maxima

Okay, /o/, I'm moving to Japan in two months, and I'm going to be in an area where having a car is a good idea. I'll have a budget of about 300,000 yen before shaken, and I'm trying to figure out what kind of car I should get. I drive a Mazda and like it, so I'd like to stick to that brand if possible. My top choice is an NA Roadster (which would be old enough for me to bring back). If not that, an Atenza wagon. If not that, a Demio. I was originally considering a kei car, but a top speed of 80 mph is a bit slow for me.
What else should I consider?...

Long term Japanfag here working for a parts export company and have owned 8 cars over 10 years period (exported 4 of them).
You will need about double your budget to get a shitty NA on the road. However, shitty by Japanese standards is probably good where you come from so not a big deal.
I would budget 1 million yen to get a proper car on the road, that is worth taking back with you. That is for an ordinary car. For a performance car, or anything even remotely popular, I'd add another 500,000 yen...

I had a friend help me change the spark plug wires while I was changing the spark plugs. He's never done anything like this besides change the oil without my help. He asked me if the wires mattered since they were all different lengths and I told him as long as the wires went in the right place then everything was fine.
I guess he crossed a wire and now it doesn't turn on, it only cranks and that is it. It will randomly...

I have an automatic 2001 honda civic lx. My radiator burst and spilled all the coolant, so i replaced it and filled it back up with coolant. The car still overheats. Radiator fan works. the car can only run a short distance before heating up. and i noticed my heater stopped working. Any solutions?
