Hey nerds, I'm in the market for a car. When looking around, I found the Honda CR-Z, as well as the Civic Ai, Fiesta ST, Subaru Impreza Hatch, and the Mazda 3.
I just want a fun, easy to work on, and practical first car. Currently I'm driving my Mom's 09 Nissan Murano, which is slow, unreliable, and a money pit. I need my own car, and I have a max budget of $30k.
What do you guys think?

What makes the Mazda 3 better than the rest? Besides the CR-Z, it seems a bit underpowered.
What made the Evolution such a popular car in the mid 00s? Looking at it now, it's just a turbo 4 with AWD that's overpriced and underpowered - the WRX STI is a better car and cheaper, and if you don't care about the AWD you can get way more horses out of a Focus RS or something.
Plus the block is aluminum, so you can't get much out of putting more boost into it...
The Evo was usually faster than the STI, actually, and before 2011 or so they were great bang for your buck.
