do any of you go to military surplus stores to get your gear? i have some boots and my cammo pants i wear every time i go hunting...

Not so much since all the good stores in town closed down (half the time for violating gun sales laws) and there isn't as much actual military surplus left these days, at least in Toronto. Mostly overpriced Rothco military style knockoff shit and tacticool molle book bags. I did buy a M51 Engineer's Field Bag last month.

Are there any legit ones left near Toronto?

Not downtown that I know of (AAA in Kensington Market isn't too bad, but it's tiny). Haven't really bothered looking since Hercules and the Save More Sport Store closed.

There's a place in East York on Northline called "The Army Store" that I've driven past but never gone in.

5 MB,
To the anon that sent free stickers to a few people.

I thank you! These are really nice quality; and small enough to be nice and subtle.

I thought you were just data mining, but you really sent some goodies.

Thanks so much.

This is probably the only board I trust with an answer to this, so here goes..
Should I get an Environmental Science degree or a Geology degree?
What are the different job prospects for each?
I was originally thinking Geology just because I think it is cool, but the problem is it isn't offered at the campus near me, while EnvSci is. Now I could totally go to the other campus but its about an hour drive, so I don't know that its even worth it, since I'm not sold on the major to begin with.

I'd go with Geology, or Biology, or another more mainstream science. You'll have more flexibility one you're done and if you want to specialize in a more environmental field you'll have the option of doing that later on. If you want to spend a lot of time /out/ing and get a decent salary then it's easier to go with Biology and do field surveys, or get good at writing research proposals and go study the bears or something.
>>
>>627205
I'm studying EnviSci right now and my school's program has a geoscience concentration. You should check out if the campus near you offers that.

I think i gained a level of druid today, i have a ermine that started hanging out under my bed whenever i leave the door open.

I think he will like it there, the young snowshoe hare that started hanging out there every now and then a month ago? Him not so much i think.

Anyone else have critters that are so used to you they just walk into your house?

When I was a kid my mom used to hang crackers with peanut butter on them from the clothes line on the patio for the squirrels. One of them became very friendly and tame. Eventually she let him into the house to eat the peanut butter and crackers. She would set some on a little plate at the table and he would hop up and eat them while I was eating breakfast before school. When he would finish he would go scurrying off back outside.

69 KB,
It's that time of year when canadian geese start invading campus.

I kicked a goose last year that was attacking some chick, but she got mad and it ended up with me getting a ticket from campus police.

This year I realized that I have pepper spray in my bag. How well does it work on land whales, or does it just make them mad? Also, does it work on geese?

37 KB,
Let's talk about dogs, ITT.

Just had a fresh encounter while coming down a 10 mile Mt. pass. As I was about a mile or so away from where I parked my car, at the end of the hike, this big black dog charged up the trail at me. It didn't stop and start barking like some dogs will do, it just charge right at me, stood up and started barking in my face. Dog's mouth was full of foam, and I had no idea whether it was rabid or just chewing on shit all day. It seemed odd though for anybody to start walking up this trail at 3:00PM however, that's pretty late...

Anything above 9mm

I would draw on an attacking dog regardless of owners presence

Hey guys.. New to this part of 4chan.. Been lurking when it gets slow in my tree stand. I was walking out of the woods the other day and saw this.. 2 questions. What type of tree is this? And what causes these marks? I'm in Ohio.

That looks like some sort of man made marking.

I'm not necessarily worried about it as much as I am curious. If you look at the base of the tree it looks like the bark is coming in as the tree matures... Hence the curiousity about the type of tree. I saw it there last year, and only found it again recently. Just wondering if maybe a small black bear is responsible or something of that nature

Remember to respect your firearm, your prey and yourself.
>>
>>630062
I will, i must admit i do not have too much experience when it comes to firearms, i've only fired a 22 and a two shot shotgun that's used here for birdhunting. But i suspect question revolving around firearms belong in /k/.
But thank you for your advice.
>>
>>630059
What sort of things are you trying to hunt? Not much advice applies to big game, small game and birds.

I thought the hunter education online materials used in the U.S. we're pretty good for a beginner (I was very experienced when I took hunter Ed) so see if you can access those.

Hey /out/ I might be going in nature for long periods of time and I want to make a thread about how to eat healthy while /out/.
So far for my protein needs I am going to stock up on beef jerky, cans of fish and packets of peanut butter(with rice cakes and crackers). For carbs/fruit I will bring dates/freeze dried fruit. I also want to consume greens while /out/ so I have looked into green drink powders(aka spirulina and others), and I was wondering if anyone has any experience with these? I wouldn't be able to wander nature for weeks at a time without consuming greens,...

32 KB,
I'm in the early stages of planning a motocamping trip that I will take next year and am looking for suggestions on how to recharge laptop/camera/phone batteries while away from civilization.

I record videos and take a lot of photos when I travel. I'm hoping to do some moto-travel vlogging while on this trip. It seems like power banks are good for cell phones, maybe a gopro, but not a dslr or laptop battery. I obviously can't take a generator with me. I'll have a look into a solar charger but I don't think those small portable ones are able to charge a laptop. Any suggestions?

Dude, you're *riding* a generator.

Yes, some knives in the drawer are not very sharp!

Get a 12v DC to 240v AC inverter for your car.

Then get a moderately large solar panel, bolt it to your roof and wire it into your car battery so you can't do something stupid like run it flat at the bottom of a hill in the middle of nowhere. The panel will trickle charge the battery.

Looks like it is. Very common on the later stages if you're growing in soil.
Would need some details. What breed? Age? Height? Is the petiole f the leaf dark/reddish?

I'm sure you've seen pic related, though it's not very helpful since the colors are shit.
