Mine likes to over analyze and bring irrational fears into the mix. That's just how she justifies her stance on not liking the outdoors much. She won't camp because she's afraid of getting attacked by a bear or something. Sure it can happen. No doubt but the statistic of that actually happening is slim to none. Even if I told her it's impossible she still wouldn't go.

Friendly reminder to all to refrain from hunting with your bow until you are accurate and precise. Inhumane kills (or injury to animals) from unskilled/unprepared archers give us all a bad rep!
I hunt with a #40 recurve. I don't have the time or property to practice as much I'd like so I stick to Judo points and small game. Currently practicing 1-2 hours a week. Not nearly enough to hunt large game.

Has anyone ever been to this technical school before? I've been considering checking it out for a HVAC program. I was gonna start school and hope to find an apprenticeship while I'm at school. But I'm new to the are an and donno where to start. I live around Nashville. I am excited to put my mind to something and learn it though. Hey /out/, so I've booked a trip to climb Kilimanjaro. It's scheduled for the summer, and I've got a while to prep for it. Has anyone climbed Kili, or any of the other seven summits, for that matter? I'm no hiking or climbing novice, but I'd love some first-hand stories or tips that might make the trip more enjoyable.

About 2 months ago I bought an allotment for about £120, about 4x8 meters, it was cheap because it was completely overgrown

We're pretty much amateurs at this sort of thing, but we have sown radishes, cherry tomatoes, squashes, pumpkins, beans, and chilli among other things in our house, so we want some tips and advice.

If you're planning to do regular (i.e. without a greenhouse) growing I'd advise for you to check the soil conditions and to see what kind of plants you can grow that will agree with your climate.
Cherry tomatoes, chillies and the like will almost certainly not survive a regular UK winter.
Personally I like growing stuff that's more or less local (like 'forgotten' vegetables) or easily adaptable to outside conditions.

i had them all. i wore them from texas to afghanistan. the fleece that i got never balded and was pretty fucking awesome except that if you snagged it hard the stitching would tear. i went through 3 of them by blowing out stitching jumping out of stuff. but they never balded. i had to give all the goretex shit back but i still have the long johns and the puffy grey.

So /out/, I need a new pack. Pictured and owned is my REI Flash 62, it's served me pretty well except the zippers are garbage and they're not replaceable/I can't sew new ones on. Need a pack that's tough for sc/out/ing but still light for long trips. Is surplus the way to go? Or does REI/Osprey have a comparable pack?

I'd go to a used outdoor store if you have one. I got a sweet 60L in the PNW for $35 bucks and consigned my old bag for the same price in the same building. Either that or ebay, newer bag technology really isn't so far advanced that I can justify to buy an expensive new bag.

I use this. Lightweight and works well. I'm a little skeptical of some of the parts inside; they don't look robust. Time will show if it's any good, but for now I'm really pleased with it.
Bucksaw seems less practical for collecting firewood on day hikes. But for anything else I think it's the best solution.
Anybody here on /out/ into dirt bikes? I ride all the time out here in the NJ pine barrens and have a great time.
