I need to get a sleeping bag. Problem is I'm too poor to afford anything above $200. I found these bags that people said were good but i don't know if they are full of shit especially since they are so cheap. I don't plan on camping in cold weather and lightweight is my priority if that helps any.
Marmot Cloudbreaker 30
Mountain Hardware Lamina 35
LL Bean Ultralight Sleeping Bag 35
Big Agnes Cross Mountain 45
Are these any good?
Also general sleeping bag thread.
>>717356
Is size a consideration? I'm very broad chested / broad shouldered. Side sleeper also.
I recently bought Nemo Mezzo Loft Luxury 30. Perfect for me.
This week I got myself a Kelty Cosmic Down bag 21° for $130 and tested it out the other night. With just thin cotton PJs I was toasty till about 32°. Temp dropped to 25° and I had to put on a down jacket to stay comfortable. I woke up to frost covering my tent and cold feet.
I'm going to get some thermal PJs and warmer socks. Maybe a bag liner too. Thermalite ones can add 15° of warmth, but I just want one to keep my bag clean.

I've had this sleeping bag since 2006. Kept me warm when it was 15 degrees Fahrenheit outside. It compresses pretty well in the sack.
Does the tasmanian tiger still exist have you ever gone camping deep in the tassie forests and spotted one?
Op please...no
many have searched none have found evidence, hell there arent even foxes in Tasmania and we still pay millions to a "fox team" to make sure they definitely aren't alive!
Yes camped there a bit, headed over to the west coast and central highlands in April. Will report back on no sightings of Tasmanian tiger

/tas/ thread
Looking to do a bit of a trip on a motorbike down from Vic and keen for some pretty sweet isolated camping. Where do you recommend?

The last died of neglect cause some wanker left it out to boil then freeze. Nah mate. Dead for sure, maybe the Devil will follow in a while.
Hope to do the overland track, though I've got to get me experience up and find a good time for it. I heard that they've actually had the idea of investing in bushwalking infrastructure for all the walkers to enjoy. This true? Did this make the Tassie wilderness wheelchair accessible or just make the path a bit more pleasant?
So, /out/, I want to hear your advice on some dirt cheap goods I'm tempted to buy.
First question:
A store nearby will be selling $4 compasses, and am interested in knowing as to whether these things genuinely work well, or if I'll end up getting compensation from getting trapped in a gorge in Wollemi National Park.
No, I do not want to screw around with the watch trick. That's a major pain. And no, I am not tempted in spending a load of money for an actual compass.
>>706562
I paid like 15 for that same compass which sucks for me... But it's never led me astray and has a very strong pull towards north so I would buy it
Are you kidding me? Compasses all work the same. Theres no reason to spend over 10 dollars on a compass.
>>706562
>very strong pull towards north
you know, like a compass should.
Why is this a thread? Buy compass, navigate, ???, profit
Can we get an /out/ style thread? I'm looking to build a wardrobe of clothes that are both functional and attractive. I'm sick of all my stuff being either one or the other, and don't want to keep paying for anything that isn't both.
I'm going to post a few items that spring to mind. Pls post anything you think of.

welp hey there OP
What are some great "tactical" boots that don't looks "tacticool"?
I am becoming more and more interested in survival/prepping.. I would like to purchase some good outdoor boots that would be grest in a survival situation, I considered militsry boots but I like the gray man concept and would not want to draw attention to ,yself by wearing military gear.
Thanks
Just get some hiking boots faggot
>>719850
Forget the word "tactical", for one thing. I prefer leather boots over the synthetics. They conform to your feet better. Danner and Carolina make good boots. Red Wing still has some okay boots, but you have to pick an choose because they've really gone downhill since moving production overseas. They use crap leather on most of their models now. Look for a thick waxy leather and take care of it with periodic treatment with a waterproofing cream.
>>719863
What about size? What is the benefit of a larger boot like the ones worn in the military?
Who else /ultralight/ here?
Pic related. All I need for 3 days/2 nights innawoods
>>710794
No one cares.
Ultralight is a meme for hippies. Literally every ounce counter I know is some scrawny white guy with either dreadlocks or a nasty beard.
You're probably vegan too, you fucking goon.
If you could choose to live off the land anywhere in the world, where would you go? Deep in the woods? A mountain range? A coast?
>>720770
Probably deep in the woods somewhere like the boundary waters. Winters would be harsh but there are plenty of large mammals and fish to survive off of. The summer would provide a ton of good foraging food and fish galore.
This is the biome I'm most experienced in which sways my opinion although I also wouldn't mind a Caribbean island. Less stuff to forage there but most of them are full of boars to eat and of course there's fishing.
>>720820
Shouldn't that image be reversed? Is there a desert that is west of a mountain range?
Oh ya forgot about chili.
