I'm a yuge fan of the Pentax DSLRs. They have ridick weather sealing on their entry-level models. Nobody else gives you weather sealing at that price. I have a K-50 and it gets poured on and I know I don't have to worry about it fucking up. It has a rugged polycarbonate body (over stainless inner chassis) as well which takes hits without denting, faking, or fatiguing. Even the kit lenses are weather sealed for dirt and water. Not it can't be submerged or anything, but you can legit drop it in the dirt and then take it in the shower to clean it off.

407 KB,
So let's get some things straight.

I'm trying out one of those fancy raw vegan diets right now (mostly fruit and nuts) and the amount of food needed for physical activity is just ridiculous.

Now I imagine a long-term survival-scenario out innawoods. Even if the location is a tropical paradise with a lot of fruit around, you'd have to find a lot of fruit everyday to maintain your health level.

Now I see no possiblity to survive in a regular forest without hunting and consuming meat.
Sure, you can stay alive with some minimum calories from...

That's quite obvious.
No tribe that lives in the world survives without meat. Just face it.

Does fishing count as hunting? tribes didn't survive on hunting to the same extent as fishing

>That's quite obvious.
For me it wasn't.
I actually believed that you can survive on berries and insects like in all the TV shows and books until I tried a fruit diet at home and almost fucking starved although I ate a decent amount of fruit.
Now I know that all this stuff is short-term survival only. I feel my muscle loss and foolishly enough, I even worked out in this malnourished state.

What does /out/ think of Aldo Leopold?

Good guy that did good work for the sierra club. Saved it from potentially being a shitty fear mongering environmental organization.

I personally like him because he came up with a minimalist style bench that requires one board, 6 carriage bolts, and a fist full of screws. I made 8 of them for my Eagle scout project a few years back.
>>
>>755647
that bench design isn't really that impressive, clearly he wasn't a wood worker.. dunno how you can inspire someone based off a "minimalist" bench that uses carriage bolts and a fist full of screws.

minimalist would be joinery only and I can tell you how to build a one board bench doing so. so do you aspire my set of skills? I would hope not.. you don't know me.

I always figured Aldo was more of an intellectual guy when it came to /out/ stuff. He was a forester, went to Yale and was an adviser to the UN on conservation when he died.

Does you /out/siders know of any other influential, famous folks like him? I'm admittedly short on knowledge of the outdoors myself

Can you help me pick a flashlight?

I tried to look into it and it's a fucking sea on wich I don't feel like applying my autism to.

I just need someting that has a decent battery life let's say 3-4h on 5-600 lumes and a decent spread.

if it uses 2 18650 and has a some range in lumes that's a plus,
but a single battery is fine too.

Hey so I got a 60L pack but I feel like it's not going to be big enough for my next trip so I'm just debating what I should go for. Dealing with some cold weather so gear blows up in size a lot.

My options
>85L pack
Thinking about just grabbing a pack in the 85L category - Should store all my gear without issue but I won't have any real redundancies or backups. Buddy has an old Dana Terraplane and there are a fuck ton of packs in this category. Considering a Tactical Tailor...

drifter_by_gavade.jpg
224 KB,
For as long as I can remember, I always felt some sort of security knowing that if I somehow lost my job, home, most of my money, I could resort to being a drifter. Wander city to town experiencing life how it was for many people back in the old days. It may not seem like the most luxurious of lifestyles but it is a possibility one may actually enjoy. You get to experience actual living outdoors, hopefully find odd jobs for food and such.

Would it really be that hard to live like this or does or society nowadays give off a bad stigma?

i think every bachelor has this comfort. the economy of security comes from family folk who dont have the option of disappearing into the night with a bag of nuts and a lighter

also, you will eventually become a rat, because it is almost impossible to both be a drifter and be confidently self sufficient. either you are eating out of dumpters, limiting your movements to social areas, or are on the unbeaten path and have 0 reliable food and water sources, which will either herd you back into society, or force you...

Sierra Trading Post. Their selection is inconsistent, but it's not hard to find really good stuff for ridiculously cheap there, especially with the easy to find coupon codes they always have.

Campmor is more consistent with stock and also usually have a coupon you can use.

Those are my two favorites. Backcountry (and Steep and Cheap) can also have good deals, as can REI's outlet section. And so can brick and mortar stores, if you're buying stuff out of season. Outdoor gear is actually fairly easy to find cheap because of how often manufacturers...

Your typical large sporting goods store like Sports Chalet in California or Academy in Texas. They'll be stocked to the brim with products like Coleman which are very cheap but honestly work just fine.

If you feel like splurging on high quality shit like Osprey backpacks or titanium campware, REI.
I am an REI whore and they'll do big sales every so often and the "garage sale" every few months. (look it up. You can get badass shit...

389 KB,
Welp the thread where I posted died.

I need a backpack to use on long trips on my motorcycle, yes I already have other means of luggage and I know riding with a backpack is shite,
but I need something to carry stuff I can't afford to lose like documents and shit and eventually some camping gear if I need to walk a long distance from my bike.

So far I've selected these two, kriega r25 wich is the most comfortable for riding (apparently) and the exped glissade wich seems more versatile and is water resistant, and I can hook shit to the daisyhoops.

My main focus is comfort really, anybody here has any experience and preference on this?

The goruck was one of the backpacks I was considering,
it looks pretty compact even for being 20lt.

Bow hunting is a lot more of a challenge. It depends on what you want out of it. If you don't give a shit about sport or a challenge, go rifle, 100%. If you want a challenge, go bow, though maybe starting with a rifle and going hunting with an experienced hunter who has taken game and properly cared for it might be a good start.
