It might. They travel across land to lay eggs or find a more suitable aquatic habitat this time of year. I don't know if they know where they want to go or if it's just random. I usually find one or two coming to my pond this time of year.

I'm going to be in Belize. will this be a bad choice for hot and humid weather since it's polyester? it says "advanced evaporation" and "sun protection"

should i just get some very lightweight cotton or linen shirts?

It's not too bad, they're pretty comfy in hot and humid weather. I've got a bunch of REI shirts that are similar that I use for /out/ings and for my /out/ related job doing field work
>>

Yeah you did good anon. No worries. They dry pretty fast and are lightweight and comfy

I like doing most of my /out/ related things by myself for obvious reasons. For the most part I take my dog with me, but if I'm ever camping alone, how can I ensure that no one's gonna wonder upon my campsite and fuck with me when I'm sleeping?

Can you harvest standing deadwood in the US?

I saw an episode where Ray Mears chops down a standing deadwood tree in Northern Scandinavia and turns them into skis. I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US and have no clue about logging regulations and what not, but there are some beautiful deadwood trees out here, some standing, some fallen but so thick that the core wood is still good.

Are there certain things that you can freely harvest in limited quantities without permits or something similar and what's the deal with wood?

You should be good as long as its your land or have the owners permission. Maybe unless you are in a suburb area or something.

What about deadwood thats on state or federal land, fallen and not fallen? How will I ever collect sticks to burn while camping?

Dude just relax. Its just a painting job. I bet you do way more complex shit while out.

The only reason you're struggling is because you're so freakishly scared of doing a bad job. Scared makes people real fuckin stupid. Just relax and do it

19 KB,
I want to do a primitive camping trip with my buddies. There's this nice area in Daniel Boone National Park called Red River Gorge with a lot of cliffs and arches that allows you to camp just about anywhere in the area that seems ideal.

The catch, however, is their alcohol policy. While I expect just about any place we go to officially ban alcohol, I've seen on various forums online that the cops in that area tend to harass campers and enforce the law, fining people for simply sipping on a beer around the fire. That said, all of these horror stories seem to...

Not in Kentucky, but some friends and I go "jello shot camping" every year. One year we didn't notice that the campground we went to had a no alcohol policy.

Cut to us unloading tons of jello shots out of the car and the camp hostess coming up.

"gee, you guys sure must love jello."
"Uh, yeah, Its pretty great."
"well, enjoy your stay!"

We also drank liquor, but put away the bottles in a camp box after pouring. Never had any issues. I honestly don't...

Yeah, that's what camping up here in Ohio is like. The policy is more of an excuse to kick rowdy people out of the campground than anything else. It just sounds like this one particular area has had some issues in the past of people actively and unnecessarily enforcing it and police being dicks about it.

I feel like we should be alright though, as long as we keep it discrete.
>>
>>762786
You can get absolutely trashed off of your ass in Red River Gorge, also have lived in Kentucky for 30 years and I specifically do primitive camping and love to bring booze and other drugs. Never once encounted law enforcement. Kentucky is a safe haven for this exact style of outdoor fun. Dont be worried at all.

Just start with a ceap gun from the pawn shop. You can probably get a 22 for 100 bucks. Or a shotgun for a little more.

To answer OP no I don't carry in national parks but i do always have a pistol in my truck. I respect their rules about carrying but I expect them to respect my castle doctrine rights inside my vehicle granted to me by the repub, er i mean state of Texas.

jesus fuck that thing looks sinister. if i were ever to hike or camp especially in snake territ'ry i would definitely invest in a snakebite kit. from what i've seen there's a lot of misinformation and outdated information regarding snakebites, first aid, and venom suppression so you have to make sure you get a kit specifically for the region you're going to be in. hospitals, ranger stations, local police, etc are probably a good place to ask

You literally cannot. You can rock gym as a loner if you smile and act nice. You can boulder as a loner all day. But you cannot alpine as a loner and i hate that too. Because i also hate people.

If they can do it, good for them.

I met a girl who was traveling the world and had gone from South America to Asia, the Middle East, and Africa by herself and was planning on going to Europe afterwards while working in Africa. She was pretty bad ass.

Meanwhile, the girl who I was working for was a lazy, unintelligent, unadventurous grad student who clearly needed her hand held as I ended up doing most of her project for her.
