Hey /out/, i recently sold my car, and am now looking for a better /out/ing vehicle. I have about 5k that I can spend on it, and am currently looking for one that can handle dirt mountain and desert roads, as well as go innawoods for car camping and such. Pic related, I've been thinking about getting a 4runner. Do you guys think they're any good?

i think a tacoma with a camper is a better option, even though it only seats 2 thats just my opinion (pic unrelated since its a newer model tacoma and im in the same boat as you and would have to buy first gen tacoma)

A First-Gen Jeep Grand Cherokee with the AMC 4.0L straight-6/Aisin AX-15 5-speed manual makes a great wheeling rig, innawoods rig, and general jack of all trades vehicle. Plus the AMC 4.0 is an absolute beast of an engine that will get you to hell and back without ever skipping a beaet. The only drawback I can think of right off the bat is that they're total pigs when it comes to fuel consumption (14mpg highway/9mpg city roughly), so make sure your trip to hell includes a lot of routes near gas stations. A decent ZJ generally runs for about $2,000, but you can find examples from around $200 for "rusty but runs and drives" example to ~4-5k for a semi-built example. Now of course prices may vary depending on your area, but here in California everything's just marginally cheaper because the floor pan/rocker panels don't rust out in approximately 15 seconds like they do back east for a rig like that. Final note being: If you look at jeeps, don't be afraid of a ZJ with the 4.0 with over 250k miles, those engines can last well over 3-500k with regular maintenance and replacement of the wear parts.

>>tfw I don't find a Gear Thread General
>>Just took a pic yesterday of updated kit
>>letsdothis

What do you guys see in my system? All comments are helpful. I've taken it /out/ a few times before but it's been in separate pieces, now that I have my new bag it can all be organized.

This is my ruck kit. I don't say it's one type of bag or another with acronyms because it makes no difference in how I would use the gear I have my talking about what's inside with a label. I did not add food to this list because in my opinion it's a temporary solution to an eternal question. The rifle and pistol are not even the main methods of food procurement here but supplement security. I live in Florida so hogs and big critters are a concern. I plan on adding bear mace in the near future for versatility. I have three knives because each plays a different role. The bk14 is my dirty job knife where I know I will damage my edge, plus it's my EDC so it lives in my pocket anyways. The bk16 is my bushcraft knife where I save that edge for woodworking. The bk15 is my game and fillet knife, money shot cuts only. The hammock sleep system is supplementary to the urban environments I may find myself in or in the forest my temporary set up till I complete a shelter.

Tldr; rate/hate, comment/ post gear

#41- "3 Day Weekend" Edition

Previous Thread:
>>764382

Fuck Mondays. Takin the day off and gonna try and get some fishin in after running some errands in the morning. Can't beat weekday fishing.

And to the anon trying to identify bass- just remember green will normally be a largemouth while smallmouth are more brown. Slightly different pattern too, most largemouth have a dark line down the center running laterally and smallmouth don't. Although these FL largemouth don't have that distinct line as much as other places. Largemouth make up the majority of bass pics that you will see, much more common. Smallmouth are pretty though.

Talk about fishin.

I can't remember the last time I saw a spotted bass. Are they in the midwest much? Rock bass are kinda the same, one of those fish that are supposedly in lots of lakes and rivers but I never catch.

Saw this "Cafejo My French Press" in the latest Cabela’s catalog (for $40) and thought I’d pass it on.

Clearly, it copied from the Aeropress (one of which I’ve got) but it’s a better design that looks to be more stable and easier to use and cleaner also and can be used with either store bought K-Cup pods or regular coffee in a reusable K-Cup.

Also; Camp Coffee General thread, I suppose.

A hatchet and knife is easily sufficient. Get a job where you use your hands, like roofing or something. This stuff will seem easy then.

What meals do you cook while /out/? I just bought this mess kit for $6 at Walmart and I've tried cooking in it once, but it sticks like a mother-trucker. What do you guys recommend? I bent a metal fork so it fits in the kit but it's still a little hard to use. Post your mess kits, rate what you like/don't like, and show us what meals you're cooking.

Post your region, tips, preservation techniques, recipes, questions and or pictures of your finds. This year I found a total of around 15 lbs over the last week (only 11 was weighed, found in just one small area and split with a partner). We had lots of rain in southeast Michigan, and while not as many warm days, a recent few caused quite a boom in morels. I froze most of mine after slicing, rinsing, and coating with flower. Others were cooked fresh with garlic mustard, ramps and butter. Pic related is 5/9/16

Hello /out/! I'm a newbie here and I just went to Walmart and grabbed a bunch of camping supplies for cheap.

I am super interested in getting in the outdoors because as of now I spend every day inside doing the same shit and i'm sick of it but I didn't want to blow a shit ton of money too fast.

Here is a picture of all of it laid out on my bed, i'll reply with a post of every thing that is there and i'll follow up with more pictures of my pack.

I would appreciate any tips and maybe a rating on how I did.

You can see most of it but the knife that is in the sheathe is a Buck 119 that my dad used back in the 80's.

That tent was a steal, may not be the best but for 25 bucks I felt that it would be good for a starter.

The picture I posted with this reply is also my dads mess kit from the 80's.

Hey out!

I've got a racoon problem. I have two cats and generally leave my door open so it's only the screen door which is closed, the screen door is not connected in one corner so the cats can come in and out, but it still keeps bugs out.

Today I went into the kitchen and found a racoon halfway through the screen about to be inside, and one of my cats hissing at it.

I made a loud noise and it went back outside, but not far. So I got my slingshot and smacked it with a 1/8 inch steel ball, it backed up a bit but stayed. Smacked it again, same thing. Switched to a 1/4 inch ball and hit in in the face. Then it ran further away but still stayed.

I went back inside, 20 minutes later went to check and it's just sitting staring at the door. I smacked it again with a 1/4'' ball and it ran out of sight.

Did I do enough to discourage it from coming back? what should i do? I don't want to hurt or kill the poor thing just teach it to stay the fuck away from my door and my cat.
