it's what I do.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rod/reel combo for around $100? I mainly fish bass, pickerel, perch, and catfish in medium/small lakes and ponds.

I was looking at this one from LLBean (6'6 model), but I want to see if there are better options out there for the same price. Thanks guys

Best bet for fishing lakes and ponds, get yourself a medium weight rod and reel. 6'6" rod with a reel that holds ~150yds of 8lb or 10lb mono. Spool it up with decent 8lb monofilament line, most fishing outlets can do this for you. If you want to fish for more carp or catfish, maybe 10lb line. But 8lb is good for just about anything freshwater. You can still cast panfish lures with it and haul in bigger carp and bass.

Then grab assorted hooks, a couple bobbers, and some split shots. Pliers or a multitool are nice too. Best bet is just running nightcrawlers on a bobber and get comfortable with casting as well as seeing what you catch at these lakes. Then you can start with some lures. Ask what other people are using, or if you are catching crappie, largemouth, whatever, you could ask here for reccommendations or look elsewhere online. Watch youtube vids on how to fish the lures. Find out what works well at your lakes, and just keep going from there.

For a medium weight rod/reel combo (spinning reel of course), you can grab something for $40. But if you think you will really be into it or aren't too strapped for cash, you can buy a combo closer to $75 that will be much nicer and you won't want to replace after a couple months.

They do sell little starter kits with a couple hooks, weights, shitty bobbers, and a lure or two, but it isn't enough go last very long.

I'm looking for a fishing kayak that I can stand in comfortably while fishing the flats and occasionally go offshore. Right now i'm thinking Malibu stealth. I like that i can stand in it and the live-well will be useful offshore. Does anybody have this kayak and would you buy it?

Maybe that pic is distorted but that doesn't look 14 ft to me. Also doesn't look wide or flat/open enough to comfortably stand on.
>>
>>754965
The best way to safely stand and fish in a kayak is by using a set of outriggers/stabilizers. You can make your own out of fishing rod holders, PVC pipe, and crab trap buoys. Or if you are not the DIY type you can pick up a set for around $150 US.
>>
>>755045
Nah plenty of sit in paddle boards are stable enough to stand in.

Unless you have absolutely no ability to balance.

Hello /out/, I picked up a new stove (pic related, Primus Omnifuel II) and need to build a base for winter/snow use. A while back a Scandinavian anon posted a very nice base made of acrylic and aluminum tape, looking for suggestions on fabricating my own version. Needs to be lightweight, not melt under the stove, insulate the base from the snow, and have space for the fuel bottle.

Also, it's been a while since we had a stove general.

How I fish for bass and always catch one
1. Hook with bait and bobber
2. Catch fish while waiting only 10 minutes
Easiest thing instead of constantly casting for hours and getting nothing.

Hey guys. I am looking at buying some land to build a few small cabins on. The biggest thing is that I want this place to be chilly, like never abover 60° and snowing about six months of the year if at all possible. Is there a website that will filter geographical locations this way? The land purchase will be a place for my friends and I to take vacations, go hiking, etc...

We don't need to own all the land we go hiking on BTW, but it would be nice to be able to do that. I do want to be able to shoot so I would like it to be somewhere that has out to 800m distance...

Context: Just got 18 years old, before starting my university i want to travel alone 720 km by foot alone, i dont know what to say to my mom, but i want tips, and opnions about this plan.
If my mother didnt accept what's the plan? go anyway?
My country is not popular doing that, i know is strange doing that on your own country btw.

I dont know how much 700 will take [i think 40 days] but i want to meet people, pick rides, see things, prove myself and have a different feel.

Most glorious comrade. Tovarishch. You will be needing good shoes and good work ethic, you will be walking a lot and needing to work along the way. Do not over-arm yourself, it is a good way to get into trouble. Keep good hygiene and clean clothes. Poo in Loo. Also, be realistic. You are traveling four hundred something miles. 40 days may be ambitious for a first timer. Be 18, have fun, get laid.

What are /out/ists opinions on this kind of gear for camping? Any experience?

An harness of some kind. Alice?
Widemouth metal canteen with those funny cups with handles.
Mess kit with cutlery. (The square folding handle one)
Entrenching tool with sheath.
Folding saw.
A fuckton of K-bars with a fuckton of sheaths.

I could get all of the above for aprox....

How much do the knoifes at these places run? You got me thinkin now...

If you are starting use whatever you have in your house and go out for a weekend. Take note of everything that didn't work and what did, or what can be improved. Only then buy gear.

Is there anywhere you can buy these sleeping bag samples? I have a relatively small dog that would fit in one, and I think it would be pretty neat to have for him.
I've tried looking on eBay, but I might just not be searching for the correct keyword.

My ex bought one from a babby goods store for her yorkshire. Didn't even knew they made sleeping bags for babies. That's all I learnt from that relationship, and now I'm sharing it with you, whom I don't now, and we are probably never going to know eachother. God indeed has mistererious ways.

Those little demo bags and tents are actually really expensive to produce and are usually only sold directly from the manufacturer to retailers.

Bummer. I've seen the tents on eBay, I guess I'll just make a small sleeping bag for the little guy.

you ask, mother nature provides. pic related.

leaves are big and soft, grow on big bushes so lots to use without really hurting the bush, and foliage is nice and thick so provides a good modesty screen you can duck behind even if you're near a trail.

Bring a little shovel with you when you go hiking (one of those gardening little ones is perfect). When you want to go you make sure you are away from water sources, dig a 6 inches hole with your shovel and let yourself go within said hole in the dirt. Now you wipe your bumbum with toilet paper, and either put it in the same hole in the ground, or put it into a ziploc bag and carry it with you to throw it into a trash can when you find one back in civilization. You now take your shovel and cover the hole, and make it...
