Hey /out/, I don't spend much time here but you guys have a lot of common interests with /k/ and this is very relevant to the outdoors. So, long story short I'm building a Campground and target range out in Nevada this summer. I'll post some pictures so you have an idea of what the 80 acres I own looks like.
I have some planned projects listed on the website www.arkadiaranch.com so you can kind of see the direction we're heading in. Feel free to share your thoughts and ideas so I can help improve upon what I already have in mind.
What suggestions do you have for someone building a Campgrounds? What would you want to see out there? What sort of attractions or amenities would make it more appealing?

Boots, knife, soda and tarp.
I would be focused on getting out of there as soon as possible, so boots to help with speed, soda bottle to avoid having to find water as often. The tarp would help in case I couldn't find my way out in one day and could also be turned into rudimentary clothing with the knife and some sort of natural fastener. Knife because of all the reasons a knife would want a knife.
Night and temperature would be challenging, but with a pick of only four items on this list and no guaranteed of procuring needed natural resources, I'd probably die rather fast anyway.

Does anyone here tan hides? I've gone out shooting and seen lots of rabbits and was hoping to start killing and cooking them, but was wondering if anyone here has any methods they recommend that are cheap-ish and straight forwards to preserving the hide. I'm hoping to get something similar to the pictured pelt.

Reminds me of a sort of mint (but different-looking, see pic) growing on the river in a sometimes flooded area, which grows there in masses and I thought "oh nice let's collect some for tea" but it turned out tasting awful, almost petrol-like. Judging from where it grows and how it looks like it was probably Mentha aquatica

I guess the Lafayette loop is neato, the Gulf trail from Madison-Washington is out of this world. The ice caves and rock scramble up King Ravine is pretty badass. Almost kilt me and I was in my prime.

I finally got up to the Whites early last month, had a kickass time going up Lafayette (pic). A group coming up the south side of the franconia loop (falling ice trail iirc?) told me to avoid going down it, so I ended up going from the lafayette to lincoln, and then back to lafayette in shitty conditions. Definitely a learning experience but a lot of fun too.

Hello /out/doorsmen, Slovenian camping man here to give you a little update on my adventures. I will post some photos of the small forested hill I explored. It seems to be a common spot for people who want to do a power run since the hill is rather steep, and the surrounding forest is quite magnificent with a good view. It's called Pekrska Gorca and has a mausoleum on the summit. Also should I adopt a "tripcode" to make these threads more regularly? It seems like you guys liked my last threads so I will do explorations as much as possible and post nature. I also bought a knife for about 4 Euros which I will post for the opinions of people whom are experienced with knives. I will start my Camp in the forests as soon as my tent arrives and I wish you all happy, relaxing endavours.
Pic related is the hill. It is close to the large mountain pohorje.
Here is a view from the other side, there is a small household and a vineyard on one side sandwiched between the woods.
These are the forests adjacent to the vineyard, namely the outskirts of Mt.Pohorje. I highly recomment Slovenia for /out/ it is truly a magnificent country.

What is /out/'s experience with drugs (including alcohol) and wilderness? I was planning on taking mushrooms for the second time later this summer and was considering doing it on a camping trip with a few friends. We would be pretty deep in the forest, at least a day's hike from civilization, but we would be in a large group (8-10 people).
Is this doable or is it an unnecessary risk to take?
I've only smoked weed and drank in the wild. Weed was thoroughly enjoyable and allowed me to still hike and shit, but I had to concentrate more on where I was moving n where I placed my feet n shit. Also you shouldn't smoke weed while in the desert unless you have way more water than you would otherwise need.
Alcohol is something I only drink at the camp when all the days hiking and exertion is over. Still thoroughly enjoyable though. Also advisable to bring an excess of water.

I'm just concerned with something going wrong. Injuries, bad trips, etc. I've been studying up on how to safely trip, but there's always the possibility of shit not going according to plan.

Wasn't this back in the day when you could basically just live anywhere you wanted and claim ownership of lake-front property that would be worth millions of dollars today?
It's kind of cool that he built his own house, but a generation earlier, that was pretty common. Hundreds of thousands of settlers built cabins across mainland US, many of which still stand today. Some areas of which were arguably harsher than an alaskan lakeside cabin with limitless sources of water, fish, firewood and game.
There's probably posters on this board more /out/ than Dick.
