177 KB,
For me:

Fall and Spring: I love fall, it is definitely my favorite time of the year. I revel when the crows come in. At least a month of orange and yellow leaves everywhere.

Summer: I really don't like the heat, but I enjoy the influx of seasons. So 80s max; low 70s would be great with a shit ton of rain.

Winter: I like the snow, just not excessively. I find it depressing when winter ends late or starts in October. Say a fairly covered ground through December and January.

Maybe Oregon?

I want 60-85 degrees year round with rain once every 7 days for roughly half the day at an average intensity.

Where find?
>>
>>794494
Somewhere on the east coast of new Zealand like hawkes bay or the wairarapa. Further north is warmer but rains a lot, the south island east coast is drier but colder in the winter. Look at the climate chart for Hastings on wikipedia

How could I hunt a bit in Europe, without much practise? I'm an okayish archer but I won't be making my own bow, so what are some easy traps, and how do I skin them? What are some stupid mistakes I shouldn't make?

Well it depends on what you want to do if you're doing traps you won't be taking on big game much if not at all. One of the mistakes I made was placing traps near someone elses property (they got mad and I never saw my traps again). You also have to decide how much effort you're going to put in it. Are you going to build your traps from stuff you find in the outdoors, or are you going to buy traps? Once you have that sorted out I would go out in the area you're thinking of trapping and find game trails,...

Make sure that whatever you do is legal where you do it. I live in Sweden where bowhunting is outlawed, doing so leads to big fines or some time in prison.
Trapping here is fine, as long as the trap is approved by Naturvårdsverket ("ministary of nature", something like that) I think and you follow the guidelines/laws.

Find a good book on snaring and hunting small game. Choose your preferred hunting method. Learn all you can on that then trial it all /out/. Id start with rabbits

Can /out/ identify this tree? It seems to have fruit that distinctly smell cherry like, but i'm not sure if they're actually cherries or edible for that matter. I took this picture at Virginia Tech during July-August 2015

Just by those, I would guess it to be some sort of Dogwood (Cornus).

I want to drop everything and move to LA. Yes, it is a child's dream, but I realize the negatives and have been through a lot. Given what you guys know about survival, how could I maximize safety and efficiency in this situation? I have businesses set up I need time to work on, so I'm not going with no plan. But I need a few pointers until I can make it happen.

Shit-tier European law finally lets me keep a whole one sea bass (over 42cm) per day as of July, so me and my angling kayak want /out/'s opinion on God-tier methods for catching this most delicious of fish from the back of a kayak. Pic related, the deadly Fiiish Black Minnow which has caught me more sea bass than any other lure.

>>

whatever you do get something with soft soles. you don't want to be hoofing on pavement for a long time in shoes with stiff hard soles. around cities i just like running shoes because they're light, breathable and well cushioned.
>>793787
i recommend not getting goretex. your feet will get hot as fuck and will always be soggy.

Hiking shoes aren't overkill at all. I tend to wear them at work.

Buy some Merrell moabs, low rise. Pop a couple Dr. Scholl's gel inserts in them and you'll be walking on clouds.

Who here actively forages or tends while out?

Picked up soaproot still in leaf: a few to make into a brush, a few to eat and the rest is being transplanted to help the health of the existing stand at a new sit that seems to be a good fit for future harvests.

I live everyday /out/ so wearing headphones keeps me entertained while being in the oak woodlands.

I edited the picture to be much smaller but when I checked to see how it would look with just the plants it was small and low quality. Idk, didn't think that was a big deal, really just want to see people foraging/tending, the nitpicking to me is unnecessary.

Anyways what do you gather, what's your biome?

Okay /out/ Can we talk boots?

Does anyone have a good boot fitting guide? I just picked up pic related and have a small amount of slip in the heel, how much is too much?
65 replies and 17 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>792574
get a heel insert, they're cheap, you place them under your insole and it should take up the volume that is allowing your heel to slip (alternatively get a larger aftermarket insole like superfeet or both)

wearing thick socks or two pairs (so long as its not constrictive) could also solve the problem

I just wear crocs when I go /out/.

You don't need to spend money on boots it's a waste of time imo save your cash for other shit

Hey, that looks like a cool project. It seems like it might be hard to carry around? I was thinking about trying to make pic related, how do you think that would go?

I was also considering making those penny stoves out of two beer cans, but having to take fuel around with me is giving me second thoughts. I dont really know how to add fuel to a penny stove while its burning, either, so youre screwed if it runs out half way through, right? Wood burning ones wouldnt have that problem, I guess. Any advice?

I have a 1TB external HD about the size and dimensions of a large smartphone. It contains extremely valuable stuff to me, content from my whole life on there. It's a backup HD. The thing is, I don't trust keeping it in the house, and don't have anyone else to rely on to keep it safe. But I'm living in the countryside, with fields and forests all around. So I intend on hiding the backup HD somewhere outdoors in a safe place no-one will ever find it. This shouldn't be too hard a problem, there are an infinite amount of places to hide the HD. But what are...

This bait is sex-mode, would probably catch a pike or bass, dogfish if that had them.

Mimics a dark sunfish very well. The main thing with fishing is to mimic what's naturally in the lake and predators snack on. Also, I'd recommend going with smaller than you'd think for lures. A Rapala minnow, rubber worm, some shiners/spinners, a sound bait such as a jitterbug/hoolapopper, and maybe one more shiner would do you good.

You could get by with less probably. Might want to get weedless, but my...
