Last month I discovered this treasure hunt - basically an outdoors video game. Solve mysteries, collect points.
What say you? Today I turned a 'what do we do' day into a 6 hour fun hike.

have you found any shit your cache yet?
the ones without shit are my favorite to find, because I leave shit in them.
yes actual shit that comes out of my asshole.

I thought I was the only one hahaha, the reactions on the app are priceless.
Hey guys I am going to be in the military for at least the next 10 years. I am going to save up money to buy a place and live happily.
What are some dreamy outdoor towns that are affordable?
so far my top pick is Chattanooga, Tennessee. i like the mixture of city and outdoor.
Bonus if you can tell me one in Colorado or anything with a mountain range!!!

if i had the money and other things in my life weren't as they are...
i would buy land somewhere in the adirondacks and homestead/go on long ass hunting trips in the state forests there.
>>714508
>adirondacks
fuck me i just looked it up and it beautiful! whats stopping you from doing it? I'm 20 and life didn't go the way i planned so fuck it im going to to serve in the military until i can afford it.
>>714514
not allowed to own a gun because of reasons. it really is beautiful there, i agree. i want to make that dream happen anyway. just minus the hunting part.
how do you guys find time/money to go /out/? all my time seems to be spent working just to get by
>>713357
Fishing is relatively cheap compared to most hobbies
>>713357
You don't need much money to be /out/, in fact, some of the most /out/ people I know haven't worked in years.
Imagine what your cost of living would be if you didn't have rent/mortgage, car payment, utility bills, insurance(s)... the list goes on. Carry your home on your back, and travel with the seasons.
>>713361
Psst... Hey pep... OP hasn't replied at all to a thread he started two hours ago.
Think he went fishing?
Why is obsidian so damn sexy?
Better question, why do we find jewels and shiny things so appealing?
My theory is it comes from spotting ripe fruits and colorful berries being important to our evolutionary survival.
>>713697
Actually it's more along the lines of why some cultures value fat people... having the spare time to create and wear decoration is a status symbol.
>>713699
Yeah, like exhibiting all your surplus energy in the form of finely crafted rare things.
But I'm talking about the initial attraction to things that make them decorative in the first place, why are opals and volcanic glass and emeralds so cool?
Any cheap/good methods of doing so? Wouldn't mind just using cordage to do so, as long as I can get it out of it's bindings with relative ease and speed.
>>713463
Not sure what your purpose is for bringing a hatchet so I won't hate too much but that's pretty much deadweight if you're doing any kind of backpacking bro. If you really want to bring it I would combine caribiners with cordage to make it easy to access.
>>713463
looks like a really fucking nice setup OP im jealous
>>713470
Hiking to campsite? I don't like taking many trips and I like keeping as hands free as possible? Splitting my wood for said campsite?
Not trying to sound like a dick, but I don't know why you WOULDN'T bring one?
How do I stop this from happening? These are my every day work boots, steel toe Red Wings
>>713109
To reiterate, because the pic doesn't make it clear, how do I stop the tongue of my boot from drifting to the left after lacing? I only have this problem on my left boot.
>>713109
take more straighter steps would be my guess
>>713109
Maybe unlace it and move the tongue around, move it to center and tie em up tight? If it's been like that a while the leather has been accustomed to being that shape.
empty those fire-tins lads!
bought a more "traditional" steel, works brilliantly. large kit i know, but it all packs pretty good in an old tea-tin and when you stuff all the empty space with fluffed jute it doesn't rattle
>>712887
I don't carry one because I can find this almost anywhere I go.
>>712914
what? how? It's beautiful. I always thought that you had to buy that shit because you had to cut down trees in order to extract it.
>>712920
it is literally in all the shoulders of pine (where the branch meets the trunk)
How about this speakers? Is it a good choose as a birthday gift to my 22 years old sister?

>inb4 river shitting argument
River shitting is not a meme, but river shitting is a meme is a meme. Let's just get the misinformation about it out of the way. It's logical and a legit thing, some do it, some don't, don't be a hater.
We shall assume everyone is now up to speed on river shitting and can proceed with other methods.
Has anybody ever made a real tyre toilet?
I personally find it most relieving to use a geocache as my commode.
Some say its bad for your health, but hell what isn't these days?
>>713049
Depends on what I'm doing. If I'm hiking, drop-squat-bury. If I'm camping (NF, not parking lot camping) I'll build a pole seat between a couple trees so I can relax and let it flow.
>>713057
Geocache shitting is fucked up, but I still find it hilarious.

Talk about fishin'
ok fishos, im really curious on this one.
post a pic of your current most favourite lure that seems to just work wonders in the waters you fish.
For me its the Savage Gear TPE shrimp (pic related).
This lure has never failed to catch fish. I can throw hardbodies, crankbaits or spinners and catch nothing, then use this and clean up on all species, freshwater or saltwater. SEQ fisherman here.
>>712752
I was really interested in that lure. Happy to hear it works that well, at least somewhere. How do you work it?
Ill post a pic later today of my best.
X-rap is hella awesome tho.

>Why the fuck can't they be cheap like houses here in Texas
Because they are actually desirable places to live unlike Texas.
But seriously, too many people in this country now and they all want the American Dream: house, land, 2.2 kids, and all that jazz. The dream is (or will be) over soon. It will just be unaffordable for most people.
I watched it happen where I grew up in the Midwest. Land prices have increased so much that the only people that can afford to buy...

Meh. I live in Texas and I do that already. I'd love to live in colorado for the weed thing, but I feel like we might get at least some reform in that area in the next 10 years.

70 days before the average last frost here but we've got a long stretch of above freezing temps forecasted (thanks global warming) so I threw some peas in a planter just hoping to get some sprouts going. If the ground thaws soon I'm going to be super hyped to get the hardy shit planted so early.
Hopefully dog proof now. Y'all hyped for spring or what?? For peppers I got jalapeño, Tiburon (Hot Poblano), "Holy Molé", and New Mexico pequin
Australian here,
I have never been camping in my life.. But I am becoming increasingly interested in prepping and /out/ related skills.
Are there any /out/ recmmended guide for getting into prepping and/or outdoor related skills from basic to advanced to recommended gear etc?
Thanks

The sticky is surprisingly helpful if you look into it. There are also some great bushcraft books out there, I peronally love Mors Kochanski's Bush Craft.
Other than that the best thing to do is watch loads of youtube videos. I can't recommend any in particular, but there are some really good ones. After a while your interests will develop and you'll find your niche, which makes it much easier to find resources because it's more specific
There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely games.
