Hey /out/, anon here.
Let me first off say that I'm new to /out/, but not to 4chan.
I believe this is the best board to post this. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
That being said, why is /doomsdayprepping/ the outdoor equivalent of having a Mustang in the /o/ community?
Why do the general public make fun of people for being ready, I don't get it.
The reason I don't get it, is because I am a Florida-fag myself, born and raised.
I went through the 2004 hurricane season here. It was not fun. My family and I didn't bug...

Shamless self bump to the fun fact (in case you all forgot) that in 2004, text messaging still used T9, Twitter didn't exist, and Facebook was still called; TheFacebook.
>>677409
>Why is that so cringeworthy nowadays?
it isn't
btw: are you aware of the solar superstorm which missed earth in 2012?
>>677423
>it isn't
Going to have to say you're a little biased based on the fact that you're on /out/.
Most people consider preppers or even people that have BOBs to be crazy, or in the least, nuts.
>are you aware of the solar superstorm which missed earth in 2012?
No I wasn't! I am currently researching now.
PS: Still OP here, even if the poster count went up.
I had to reset my browser since the captcha wasn't loading.
When I was a kid, I watched Man vs Wild a lot. I adore his spirit on survival, and his iron balls to eat something shitty normal people walk away from. that also made me a camper now.
But enough about him. My question is, what do YOU think of him, I also didn't redpilled myself to Grylls to so, discuss on what's bad about this bogus..
He obviously teaches some pretty dangerous stuff like jumping off cliffs and climbing rather than walking around. It's entertainment.
He is pretty cool guy and tv show is good entertainment, some things are pretty funny and he cheats, but its ok to me.

Can we get a bear thread going?
How has everyone's bear experience been?
I have bearly any experience with bears in the wild.
fuck bears
>>673891
>hating bears
Get fucked, faggot
>>673890
Most you can bodyslam into unconsciousness, but if you see a polar bear just fucking run.
On a lighter note, don't stand under a bear that's about to get tranquilized by rangers, my dad worked as one for a bit and saw a colleague get a faceful of shit. Must've been pretty hilarious desu, the guy quit a few days later.
anyone here into urban exploration?
thoughts and experience thread
i have a dedicated channel called thebayunderground check it out if youre into that stuff
>>675745
>thebayunderground
Not op.
Cool, I will check out these videos when I get the chance. Best of luck with adding more content, I will definitely be checking this out in the future for more content.
Whats your routine when stumbling upon (and researching) an interesting place?
Here's what i do most of the times:
>Step 1: Basic Internet search
Checking whats to find about it on Google and Google Earth/Maps. The downloaded version of Google Earth offers the option to use old satellite maps wich shows some places in better conditions, or with less trees wich sometimes opens the view to parts that were hidden before. Sometimes pictures made by other explorers are aviable, giving a good look at what will await me.Comment too long. Click here to view the full text.
I just spent 8 hours cleaning my car, can we have an adventure vehicle thread? pic related
saw this for sale, kinda want
What is the Mora of /out/ cars?
>>660672
No such thing. If you buy low price cars and beat the shit out of them without taking any care of them over and over again, then you'd either be a fucking idiot or you bought them with daddy's money.
>#6- "Your Mystery Tacklebox Has Shipped" Edition
Saw you guys did work in the other thread while I was on the grind, so figured it's time for a new one.

1st for day-drinking busch light and shitposting in fishing threads
>woooo
>>685667
Sounds nice. Except for the Busch Light. Get on some heavy duty Natural Ice.
Bass Pro has some big "Spring Fishing" deal and I guess tomorrow if you are a rewards member, you can get the sale prices early. But there aren't any good deals on rods or reels unless it is store brand. 25% off Spider Wire, sales on some lures, and then some random rebates but I hate rebates. I'm never going to take the time to fill them out and mail them.
>>685670
>Get on some heavy duty Natural Ice.
natty ice was what everyone around here drank in high school at the pasture parties.
My dad and my best friend's dad both drink busch and I always raid their beer fridges when I'm in town so I've gotten acclimated to the taste but busch light has slightly fewer calories, gotta get that summer bod for reeling in the qt's while fishing shirtless in a 40 year old, objectively ugly boat while I'm out on the lake this year.
What's the point?
How can people properly plan for shtf survival when they don't even have a proper means of self defense?
>>679102
Idk senpai, I'm American, I don't have these problems.
>>679102
not everyone lives in an area that permits funs. Also, ammo runs out. Obviously you should get a gun and ammo if you can, but I can see why people focus on weapons that can't run out of ammo.
>>679107
This.
Of course it doesn't make having a gun a bad idea, as long as you're not an idiot, which 9/10 Americans are blithering fucking idiots and more likely to shoot themselves or someone they love than anyone or anything that is an actual threat.
The downsides of guns in a shtf situation are myriad - ammo being the primary one - it's heavy and should shit really hit the fan, would be difficult to acquire more. Having lots of guns and lots of ammo stockpiled only makes sense if you have a...

What are some essential cool innawood things to own?
So far I bought a zippo and an intricate musical pocket watch.
Do you know of any other products that are really cool or really sturdy?
Remington 1858 New Army (Cool)
Wather PPK (Cool)
Swiss army knife (COOL)
GLOCK (really sturdy)
Cool
>>677906
Sorry, I don't buy gear just to own it and think it is cool, but I really go /out/doors and use it.

Fuck off back to the basement, you retard
What do the sc/out/doorsmen think of YouTube personalities? I've seen some Ray Mears, Living Survival, Survival Lilly and PreparedMind101 stuff posted here in the past and just recently began wondering who /out/ takes seriously and who they shun. Who do you watch? Who do you shun? Image unrelated.
>>683136
>personalities?
you talk about commerical driven weabooos ... ?
+"gear review" spammers.. ´?
>>683139
Don't limit yourself to the names I mentioned. Who do you really like/dislike watching on YT? I personally like https://www.youtube.com/user/BlackOwlOutdoors, they do a bit of everything. They even have a pretty 2-part episode on making firestarters at home.
"Welcome to Black Owl Outdoors official YouTube page. We shoot all of our HD videos in the great outdoors and our topics vary with our interests. We do bushcraft type stuff. We talk about plants. We talk about rocks. We talk about water. We talk...

But nowdays manny of the channels are you too much towards to gear reviews and shilling. Companies sends them lots of free money just so them can post a video at new gear on ytb. A big chanel is a win-win situation.
We're talking about people with 30k, 50k, 100k, 200k 300k subscribers. You can live out of YouTube revenue.
What's the best option that has worked for you against mosquitoes besides DEET?
>mrw i put too much DEET cream on my face
>>684733
DEET is probably the best option, another would be wearing long sleeves and pants. I have a few long sleeve shirts that are very light. UV 30 proof and help keep unwanted bugs off of you.
What is the appeal of freeze dried foods? I mean, you have to carry extra water to rehydrate it anyway, unless you are 100% certain to find and filter water on the trail at the inconvenience of the stream possibly being far away from your camp. Why not just carry canned foods? They are much cheaper and empty cans really don't weigh that much or take up extra space if you crush them.
Dehydrated chili + water bottle = same weight of Can of chili
I'm not talking about mashed potatoes or pastas/ramens. What's the big idea here? Is this the next biggest...

I think that freeze dried actually tastes better than canned plus freeze dried doesn't require you to dirty up a kettle to prepare it or a dish to serve it in. There's no cleanup required cuz you heat it and eat it from the pouch it comes in...

Hi /out/ist. I buy my first knife. A folding knife. I buy it to cut nylon while Im fishing. Now Im wondering how many other uses a folding knife have.

I've critter problems at my home. in the last two weeks I've caught 5 cats, 3 possums, and a raccoon..
Cat this kitty early Thursday morning.
>>683251
Here the lastest one. I cant use conibears, because the cats my get into them.. So, I have to live traps. The sheriff comes and picks up the cats & takes them to the shelter. This cat is still here until Monday when the shelter opens back up.
>>683261
so, if I catch a possum or raccoon, I gotta deal with it myself..
I cant simply put the dirty/stinky/shit covered cage in my car and take them someone and turn them loose to be someone elses problem..
and animal control doesn't want them; and they tear up my stuff so I cant let them loose here.
What is it that makes these axes so damn appealing?
> design?

What is it /out/ , what's the reason?
Redpill me. I must know.
>>676112
It's the prohibitve cost, and nothing else.
Absolutely nothing.
It's like buying brand name Pepsi over a competitors generic name Pepso; both containing the same ingredients and taste exactly like each other.
>>676132
this.
Also, I might trip as PepsoFag from now on :3
What's a small, cheap, decent quality camping/backpacking stove?
Primus Yellowstone Classic. Costs $20, is pretty much the ak-47 of trail stoves. Not fancy, but durable and easy to use.
I use one of those $10 Etekcity stoves off amazon. I pretty much only camp by myself and use a little 20 oz cup for all of my cooking and it works fine for my needs.
However I only have about 5 real trips with this thing so far so not sure how long it'll hold up.
>>676213
I also forgot to mention it fold down into a little plastic case that's like 2x the size (2x width, height and length) of a zippo lighter. I put that into my cup with my collapsible spork, a lighter in case the piezo doesn't work, and some extra aluminum foil and made a little aluminum foil lid for it. Pretty compact setup for a solo backpacker
