Hey /out/ i shared my exploration live with /b/ but also wanna ask you something here.

Do you know if u have to expect more radiation than the usual background radiation if u visit an old abandoned nuclear warhead storage?
It got abandoned in 2004.
Was build around 1960 i think...

I hadnt my geiger counter with me so i coulnd check it.

live in South East Queensland, Australia.

Humid and wet summers, also very hot, min temp is probs 24 Celsius during summer

Damp and cold mornings in winter, min temp during winter is about 10 celsius

currently have tomatoes, lettuce, carrot, corn, strawberries, and more

Tomatoes and corn are doing great, rest seem to be struggling with the heat, except for carrots, which are going alright.

soil type doesn't matter, as it is complete shit, and I plan on just buying premixed gardening soil and adding fertilizer

So /out/ can you please suggest to the most suitable plants for my area, and out of those, the ones that will produce the most nutritious fruit. Goal is to live off own produce(1 person)

FNQ here, I've got sweet potato that keeps coming back,
birds eye chillis keep appearing due to the birds,
a vast selection of citrus because i like my rum,
hoping to keep some asparagas alive this time,
trying for carrots and assorted other veggies mainly whatever bunnigs seed packets are availible,
oh and going for pumpkins and a pineapple just from the seeds and the top of store bought ones....
all bar the citrus and chillis are kinda dependant on my sailing schedule tho.
not sure if that gives you any ideas, but I too will be monitoring this thread

Are you after natives in particular or plants that will grow well in your area? There's plenty of books on what grows well in different region, otherwise go to a plant nursery and ask them.
>>
Legumes can improve soil quality because their roots are beneficial to the growth of nitrogen fixing bacteria. I don't know how self-sufficient or advanced you are trying to get with this project though.

So /out/, I've just spent the last year working as a laborer in rural construction and have come to the conclusion that I'd rather off myself then work a desk job no matter how much money it made me. What kind of trades/skilled labor positions should I look into if I want to work outside with my hands?

I live in eastern Ontario

I landscape and live it. Mind you I live in BC so I can work pretty much all year. Well we take a couple weeks off around Christmas and January is really weather dependent. Personally I see the little bit of time off as a perk though

Recruitment professional here.

In my experience, millwright jobs are decent in terms of skilled trades. The outdoors kind of industrial millwrights aren't in demand right now though, with things in Alberta the way they are.

You already have construction experience though, so I suggest you become a construction millwright, the payrate is roughly 25-40/hr depending on experience and the contract. If you are gonna do it, try to become a dual ticket millwright/industrial electrician.

Whats up with canadian wilderness laws?

I can't even carry a decent airgun to hunt for wild game, theres all these protected species (can't migratory birds like ducks). Theirs bears everywhere which you are not allowed to harm. 90% of Canada is wildlife yet you can't defend yourself without some kind of permit.

Am I just reading the laws wrong, I'm trying to bicycle across Canada but it seems its not possible without a huge budget and staying at motels.

Hey /out/ I want to get a backpack but have no idea what and where I should be looking for.

I'd like it to look like someone one would be in public and go to school with but also suitable for the great outdoors.

So which backpack and from where should I order it? Europe btw, would be nice if the website would have other outdoors stuff too.

Question, how viable would one of these be for /out/ adventures? And or does anyone do this?

Obviously depends on where you live. I feel as though one could viably hammock camp hard to reach lakes, flat tops etc.
But could you bring enough gear, and gas?

That is not a trail marker , that is a hippie marker and needs to be MGTOWed into pieces

I am giving serious thought to snaring some of the carp and other bottom feeders this spring and summer with the intention of releasing them. Will this kill the fish? I just want to experience the fight. I can think of no other way to catch some of these monster fish at my local spillway.

> I just want to experience the fight.

Not much fight when you snag a fish. It's about as fun as reeling in a tire.

Also if you catch any, kill them. They destroy the environment.
>>
>>662035
> same could be said for snagging hobos

How do they destroy the environment? I've never heard that before.

I've never bought a knife before, always used a plain finnish marttiini knife my whole life. Now I am looking for something else, something plain but elegant. I found this one which is from Pakistan, hand made of damascus steel. However the price seems very low for a custom knife, or is it just how the market is? This one has been sold but I'm considering to contact the maker to ask if he can make a knife by the same pattern. Also, does anyone know of any good stone knapping books? I want to learn to make arrow and spearheads aswell as knife blades from natural glass and stone as I believe that in a real "happening" learned skills are more valuable than tactical gear bought online. This is my first post on /out/ thanks

this is a nice detail but ultimately not going to be used, might even ask the maker to not include this feature

The first time I slept in one I heard every single noise. Every leaf that rustled, every twig that snapped. I swear that at some point I was being sniffed by a woodland critter. It takes some getting used to.

What do you think of this new upcoming season of Dual Survival?

The PCT and CDT are both trails that I will do. The Hokkaido Nature Trail in Japan is the trail I really want to do, but will probably never be able to thru hike unless I win the lottery.
>>
Those aren't issues. Its really cheap to hike compaired to "normal life" get a few grand in good gear , quit your job, sell your car, if you rent, put you stuff in storage, if you have a house, put you stuff in storage and rent the whole house, or even just sell it. Depending on your vices you can do a thru hike on 3-6 grand over like seven months.

Go the entire length of the pan America highway, from Alaska to the very southern tip of Chile. And go on hiking adventures along the way.

I understand people spend about a year or more foe the entire trip. It would be the adventure of a life time. Plus I would like to go back to Peru and Chile.

Hey, /out/. Long time lurker here. I don't usually see all that many urban exploration threads, so I thought I'd make one.

As a complete beginner to this, I'd like the more experienced folks to give hints, suggest locations, books, and tools. Maybe also talk about the ethos of urban explorers, and stuff like that.

Feel free to contribute with what you've got.

Shameless self-bump.

for me the way is to be homeless and wander around a city looking for forgotten and ignored looking places to sleep in.

necessity creates motivation, sleeping in gives depth to the experience.

ethos: be a shadow, leave no trace.

tools: screwdriver to open doors/windows. mask to stay anonymous in case of cameras. light to conquer darkness.

keep your eyes open.

I'm going camping soon.

1. What are the best socks for hiking? Why?
2. What is your favorite camping food?
3. Do you use your smartphone camping? (GPS, books)
5. How do you poop innawoods?

Thanks in advance.

Car camping on a designated spot, ie state campground?

Or backpacking /bushwhacking?
>>
1. I like you use synthetic socks during the day. They dry out quicker
2. I like those Knorr sidekicks, and I usually mix in some meat and other vegetables. its a bit of a pain in the ass to clean the pot though
3.yes. usually just to take pictures, but i guess it could be used as a gps or even as backup flashlight.
