What the hell happened to Les Stroud? Survivorman used to give me romantic feels, now he just whines about greenpeace stuff, what to frick??? Old age dementia? I guess one should never trust a canadian, "the first country to embrace multiculturalism". Pretty dissapointing I have to say, seeing my teenage idol turn red.

I've always seen him as a businessman. He does what his audience wants. Can't say I'm disappointed, but I wish he did the thing that made him a celebrity. The bigfoot series was bullshit.

Has anyone here run into illegal drug farms or labs? Or had the police search your camp or farm because they thought it was one?

How did it go down, and how can I avoid either situation?

378 KB,
Is it still possible to backpack through America? I'm becoming increasingly... depressed about my life and I would like to see many things that I have not. I get motion sick in cars, and I do not have a license, so I am left with either my feet or a bike.

I planned on working and saving up in order to buy the supplies I need, and I am curious if it would be better to simply walk or ride. I figure walking would be cheaper but not as effective. I am also a little worried about being hit by a car whilst biking and also not being able to take in as much, if that makes...

America is pretty big so if you don't want to hitchhike, the bike is a better bet than feet, though people have walked it. Our very own Tourfat biked it with no preperation, and so can you.

>What do?
Go for a weekend trip, then a week, get a feel for what it's like, and it won't be as scary.

No, I get motion sickness whether I am driving or not. Had a learner's permit thinking the same thing and no, still sick.

So guys, I live in Boise, ID and I had a sudden realization. There is an insanely large chunk of land of just nothing Between Eastern Oregon, Southwest Idaho, and Northern Nevada.

No seriously, aside from an Indian Reservation, and a few towns of ten people. there's absolutely nothing there!

It's because there's no water. And since there's no one for miles around, how would one go about surviving and dicking around out there?

tl;dr - How would one go about surviving in the Owyhee Canyonlands?

Aquaponics creates excellent plant growth in a limited amount of space. But you live in a sunny, warm country with plenty of farmland. So whatever you grow will probably cost more than your competition so what's your angle? You need to figure that out first before you start delving into what grow-lights or aquaponics system you should buy.

What kinds of specialty produce can you grow that isn't being covered by the market already, but yet has enough demand that you can sell everything you produce?

Are there ethnic minorities of substantial population...

Not green. You know how plants look green to us? That's because they reflect green light. Stick with red, warm white, cool white, blue. Do research wavelengths, see what works best for photosynthesis (general ranges as well as individual plant preferences).

I'm planning a 1-2 week road trip to the west/south west in the spring. I live in Wisconsin, and am looking for the best places to do day hikes out there. There's so many spots I'm interested in, I don't know which to pick. Here are some places I'm interested in checking out, let me know which one of these is the best because I can only see a couple of them.

Canyonlands - Utah
Grand Teton - Wyoming
North Cascades - Washington
Santa Fe Nat. Forest - New Mexico
San Juan Mountains - Colorado
Medicine Bow National Forest - Wyoming...

It's more out than most jobs, but it's not at all being close to nature.

Prepare to have your world turned upside down with the politics of the fire service. It's the most disheartening experience of my life. The system is so broken, and inefficient it's a literal waste of tax payer money.

Did 3 seasons, one as a captain, and had to report a guy for swimming while we were on the clock. He got fired on the spot.

It's boring as shit, and the work is pretty demanding in waves. Also you don't get to choose your company, and that...

Is there any reason I shouldn't buy a 4 season tent as my first tent purchase? I want to be able to buy something that can be used anywhere through the year.

Anyway yeah is there a reason not to use a single wall 4 season tent in the summer? If so why don't they just call them winter tents?

If you live anywhere with true 4 seasons you will find out pretty quickly why you dont want a "four season" tent
>>
4 season tents are heavy and bulky

Where are you going op? Extreme alpine adventures or Limeyand?
>>
>>658482
4 season tents are designed for "all four seasons," so you would be able to use it in the summer too. It's a nylon cave that protects you from the elements, not much can go wrong. The main disadvantage would be the weight. Winter tents need to deal with snow-loading on the side walls and potentially the roof, so they are built extra strong, which results in extra weight and bulk.

Another, not so obvious, disadvantage is that winter tents are often made to minimize ventilation - if there's...

Does anyone else feel it's nearly impossible to catch fish when the water is cold? I only catch fish in summer, when the water is warm like bath water. If I leave my rod out for 2 hours, I may get ONE bite from a catfish. Maybe. As far as panfish and everything else? Not a chance.

Anyone else feel this way, or have similar frustrations you wanna share? It pisses me off to no end that I live in Louisiana, sports mans paradise, and can barely catch any fish while other guy are catching 50+ a day.

Bitching general
>>
>>650849
Maybe you should be less of a bitch and learn how to change tactics.

Fishing isn't just sitting in the same spot with the same bait hoping to get the same fish.

It takes skill and understanding that's why its called fishing not catching.

On a side note got skunked today but it happens so no worry.
>>
>>650857
So are you saying that fish bite the same in cold water as they do in warm?

Also how is throwing smelly bait that I know they love a tactic that needs changing?

You should start with a decent pair of binoculars (I have 7x50s) and a star chart app for your phone, to learn your way around the sky. Then think about getting a telescope.
