The TV show really jumped the shark now. Joe Teti got fired for hurting a dog and Matt Graham said in a Facebook post he's working on a new show, I liked Matt Graham though. Maybe he'll get together with Dave Canterbury.

The 2 new guys just plain old suck. They couldn't even get a fire going "we're gonna die without fire!!!" (thank god their trailer is parked a few feet away) and although I do realize the show is scripted but even the kinda off camera type banter sounds scripted. "Did air escape from your bottom?" "teehee.. it wasn't me, maybe it was an Orca teehee" And the military guy goes overboard with the "is the nature guy serious?" "What a wacky nature man"

Les Stroud is the only one I can watch at all. It's cool when they put him totally outside of his comfort zone in Africa or something.

I was told to go with the lowest temp rated sleeping bag that I could afford because one can always cool off by laying on top or unzipping. Freezing your balls off in the middle of the night and not being able to do anything about it is the worst.

Affordability aside, is a -25 sleeping bag used 4 season a terrible idea? What's the worst that can happen, that I don't ever sleep inside of it unless in a snow storm?

It's much better to have several sleeping bags, than one do-it-all bag.

A -25 bag for 4 seasons isn't a good idea really. It will be much too hot for the majority of the year. You won't sleep well, and wake up covered in sweat. If you're mostly camping in freezing temps, approaching 0 degrees and below most of the time, then sure a -25 bag will work. Most people camp more frequently when it's warmer though.

A -25 bag will be significantly heavier and bulkier than a warmer rated bag. If you never hike and backpack, then it's not a concern. If you have to carry the -25 bag everywhere, it'll suck.

It's better to have a sleeping bag for winter camping, an intermediate bag for early spring/fall, and a lighter summer bag.

If you do only want ONE BAG TO RULE THEM ALL. I'd say a 20 degree sleeping bag is best. You can wear clothes and get a liner for colder temps, or open it up and vent it for warmer days.

For me, I have a 0 degree set up for winter, a 32 degree set up for spring/fall, and a 50 degree set up for summer. I can take each set up lower or higher with a liner, or wearing less clothes under. So really I have myself covered from sub zero temps on up.

I'm on a gap year and I want to travel around. I like seeing new places and I'm tired of sitting around. Obviously, I cannot afford to stay in a hotel every night, so I'll have to be sleeping in my car (an SUV.)

I have no idea how to properly go about doing this, though. I grew up in a wealthy family that was too afraid to leave the air conditioned household, and "travel" to them was waking up at 6am, cramming all the major landmarks of a place into one day, and then leaving.

I bought a sleeping mat and a sleeping bag and threw them in the back of my car, but that's all I have so far.

Walmart allows overnight sleeping and campgrounds run pretty cheap ($10-$15 a night) if you need a place to sleep. You can get a shower at some campgrounds and truck stops have showers for $10. Buy some baby wipes to wipe your ass down in between showers. If you don't plan to eat out then a gas stove is a must. Bring piss bottles with you and take your shits at gas stations or if you're out dig a hole and shit in that.

That should cover the basics

some of the civvie options are really good. So stop being a tacticool faggot and get some fucking realtree local to your area.
>>
>>663433
Wolf grey, coyote and crocodile are the best universal camo colours.

Camo is pretty pointless for a civilian though, all of my outdoors gear are arcteryx in wolf grey just because I like the colour and they don't look especially tacticool/outdoorsy.

Hello /out/ Im looking for a hammock sleep system that does not need a tarp. Kind of like a peapod design but more light weight.

We already have a pretty comprehensive hammock thread

>>646556

Should have all the answers you need.
>>
>>666068
There's definitely no info there about a weatherproof pea pod design.

>>666050
What about a jungle hammock? One like the DD hammocks jungle hammock. It uses a tarp, but one that just covers the hammock only. Might be an idea.
>>
>>666072
Also, one of the problems you'll face with jist a weather oof peapod, is that is almost impossible to seal the ends to make them water proof. Any hole that the hammock has to pass through would be a spot for water to seep in. Water that's running across a surface has a habit of getting into even the tightest of cracks.

What would you guys get from this site to stock up for a 5 day canoe trip in Spring/Summer/Early Autumn? Assume it would take 15+ hours for rescuers to get to you if anything were to go wrong.

They'll either give you a list of things to show up with, or you'll leave with one at the end of your course. I've found the local pharmacy and MEC to be better sources than the internet.

I have a Specialized Allez.
Should I buy these for 190 euros?
160 for the shoes.
30 for the pedals.
I've never owned or used road bike shoes and pedals before.
Are they worth their money?
Thanks.

The pedals are SHIMANO PD-R540.
>>
While stiff soled shoes have been proven to be better for bicycles advantages of actually being attached to pedals have not been proven and are dubious. Might want to considering upgrading your bike instead.

Can you be more specific?
It's an allez compact.
What component(s) should I upgrade?

I dont know about you guys, but living in Wyoming and outing there in its unforgiving wind and dryness, i have to have lotion with me. My hands and arms dry up severely bad, and the only stuff i found that sort of works for me is pic related,

has anyone else had this problem? Can anyone recommend anything for me?

Shea Butter. Get the raw stuff, it should be slightly off white, smells like black people, and comes in chunks. It's pretty much the best, longest lasting moisturizer I've ever used.

Someone bought me a bottle of that. It looked and felt like jizz so I threw it out

Just got a job for the Department of Conservation. My job basically entails spending a week+ at a time in pure bush tracking an endangered animal. The ones we have now have a serious problem with inbreeding.

Wondering if /out/ has any advice for me. I'm going to be down in Stewart Island (most southern island in New Zealand) by myself. Obviously going to have gear and food supplied by DoC when I arrive next month but yeah, any advice?

Specifically:
>food
>equipment that would be most useful
>general advice for dealing with weather

I've worked for years as a hut ranger, but never lived in the actual bush. Not sure what to expect really.

I'm tired of laboring for someone else to survive

What books do you recommend to learn how to live off the fat of the land? preferably with as little commercial consumption as possible (ie. expensive camping gear and weaponry)

Not talking about going off the grid here, just want the piece of mind that I can keep myself alive without external support

Just start your own business. Get rich enough to buy a modest plot of land, turn the land into farmable acreage. Start a farm, get a wife with big birthing hips and big soft titties.
Have a bunch of kids.
Have land to go /out/.
Have a hot wife.
Win.

Hey /out/, what are some good sleeping pads for a good price?

I am trying to start camping again after a long hiatus and I've always slept on the ground but if i can recall correctly if was fucking freezing and uncomfortable.

I also remember it being cold enough for frost in the mourning so decent insulation would be nice.

It would be preferable if they were somewhat long as i am on the tall side.

Thanks

Sleeping pad ? That a new thing that hippies use on the PCT ? If a wool blanket or tarp wont work. Stay home or at the hotel. Leave the woods for hikers. In scandavia you would get your ass kicked for suggesting such shit,.

I got one of the cheaper thermarest closed cells, ridgewhatever. It was $30 on sale. I've been sleeping out in Colorado springs the last two days, it's pretty great.

Retard.

Pads are the way to go.

I have overcome my prejudice and switched to air.

I like Klymet pads. The Inertia XL is a nice one pound pad. The Recon Scout about half. It rolls to the size or a banana, really.

Pure unadulterated comfy: Big Agnes insulated Q-Core. None finer, about two pounds.

My next, Neoair Exo-therm. Light and hig r value, so $.

Klymets pic related.
