Vagabonds, Bums, Homeless, soon to be homeless or those thinking about it; ask questions and share tips/stories/pictures itt. Also feel free to talk mad shit on homeless if you need some low hanging fruit to make yourself feel better :)

>where do I start?
With a backpack and a sleeping bag. Don't make quick friends in new places and don't be a scumbag. A car will help your transition if you're not street smart as it is. Avoid dense urban areas until you're more savvy.

>how do I keep going?
By pushing yourself to improve in all aspects of your character. This general should really be named /preventing neetdom/ but the concept is probably too bizzare for some. Unless you want to be a bum- and by all means bum it up, then you're going to have to work on developing an art or a talent that feeds to the human desire for novelty.

In our future society, technology will have largely replaced the need for a human dominated workforce and we will transition completely to a society of consumers. When this happens, novelty will be the driving force behind consumer decisions. There will also be a brief period-we're basically there now, where crime and punishment will be two important factors as people come to cope.

Imagine a world where the only people living outside are the ones who want to be outside. Where living outside and as a free spirit is a privilege, not earned but naturally granted. Being forced to live inside the most comfortable prison imaginable because you weren't able to handle the responsibility of living in the public eye.

This is where we are headed. Recognizing the need to improve yourself spiritually, emotionally and physically is the first step. This lifestyle will either make you or break you. If you're already broken, what do you have to lose?

Best way to get rid of hobos is to ransack their camps while theyre away, or tear gas and ransack if they are there. Completely destroy tents, take away dogs, bikes, even backpacks. Leave them a black trashbag to carry what you'll let them keep and make them start walking or send them to jail, which they will stay until their debts from being sent to jail are paid off.

Remember, we can make each of our cities nice again. Yes, feel free to do this in winter.

Don't worry, hobos are very physically weak don't let them fool you by aggression. They're...

Why another one? It's better to have people ask the same stupid, repeated questions in the same place, rather than constantly making new threads for them.

>inb4 knifes

Just got done cutting clip screw threads in my knockoff PM. Overall it wasn't a bad buy, but for some reason they made all 4 sets of clip screw holes and only bothered to tap 1/4 position.

Honestly I've gotten cheaper knives with better quality, but the design is not bad.

Our friend in the south is having snowtime.

I for one am planning for an NZ snowboard trip this Sept, but am still searching places that are easily accessible via public transport.
Im still a beginner, so a simple slope is ok for me. Looking fwd for recommendations.

Also, where are you guys /out/ for some snow?

I'll probably be at park city or solitude this winter - very excited for big mountain powder and proper parks!

What tent is gud? I want a smallish 2-4 man tent that is stout enough to survive harsh weather and wind but it relatively compact and above all, inexpensive. A tent I can live in for a while.

It's for motorcycle camping in remote areas for extended periods, weight isn't a concern but bulk is, only so much space to strap shit on the back. Don't care about insulation, I don't motorcycle camp in the winter.

I bought this tent in the OP pic and it has many great qualities and it was only $70, but durable it isn't and the tent stakes are more...

Another fishing thread!

Do the Shimano Sellus rods come in a size you like? I was lookin at some of those for a spinning combo, and they are a little heavy for a medium weight, but pretty fast action and only $60. Would be good for a baitcaster.

Fenwick Eagles are a popular one for $50-$60, but I have a medium weight spinning one of those and if I did one for a baitcaster, I would probably go MH since they aren't real fast or stiff.

Otherwise Berkley Lightning Rods for $40. They are my favorite...

What does /out/ think of this kind of pack? Ultra-Marathon runners use basically smaller versions of this, why not hiking? I want to find a problem with it, but so far all I've got is that it's hideous. Does anyone know of other brands/have ideas about how to make one easily?

Honestly I can't come up with a real criticism for why that kind of pack wouldn't work for backpacking. It would be hot and sweaty on your torso, but that's just a comfort thing really. Seems like it would balance better. Harder to get on and off. Easier to access a map and water bottle on the go. Just spitballing here
>>
>>810068
>It would be hot and sweaty on your torso, but that's just a comfort thing really.

That's a real concern and far from a comfort only thing. In cold weather sweating while active means freezing while you stop for a rest.

More sweat = drinking more water, which means you carry more, especially in hikes where water is not abundant.

From the looks of it my guess if that the forward weight burdens the shoulders much more % wise than the back one. Since you're leaning forward while hiking with a pack, less of the weight can be transmitted to the waist.

Makes actions like bending down to pick up something or tie your shoes clumsier, the same with taking a piss for males.

Blocks the view of where exactly you're setting your foot, in some terrain that's outright dangerous.

Hinders your ability to climb/scramble using your hands.

In fact using your hands for anything becomes uncomfortable, opening a map, eating a sandwich or a chocolate bar...

Smaller rigs that just take some maps and a camera are acceptable and have few of the above listed problems.

I'm planning a solo camping mission for this weekend, which I've never undertaken before. I'm taking a tent and a 30l bag with me. I should be under light forestry (no threat of wildlife except maybe foxes) and within sight of a river. My only resource on the matter is my old scout handbook -- any advice or reading material for me?

I'm going to Bariloche in a few weeks. For those who don't know the place, it is a mountain town almost at the bottom of south america in Argentina. Lots of woods around the area, so it's a perfect chance for a dang ol outing.

Take into account that it's winter here. There probably won't be snow on the lowlands, but the temperature will probably drop blow the freezing point during the night.

What kind of activities do you suggest I do? I'm kind of a newfag when it comes to outdoorsmanship so some easy to moderate challenges would be...

Hey /out/, going hiking/camping with some friends for the first time in August. I already have a good pair of hiking boots and socks, but I don't have any other appropriate clothing.
I was looking at buying pic related as my outfit.

Looking for your opinion on it, and any suggestions or changes/additions I should make.

Find what length (in centimeters) it is up to your fists when the inside of your elbow makes a 90 degree angle, then buy used ski poles in your area to get the most reliable and cheapest, if you were just day hiking I'd recommend cheap telescopic poles but I get the feel that they'd break and stop holding a length after 200 miles.
>>
Make your own poles out of aluminum bar stock. Way cheaper and will not collapse and break on you. Added bonus can be used as a weapon.
