I live near a residential inlet that leads into Lake Pontchartrain. I know that there are largemouth bass in this lake, but every attempt to catch them has failed. I did catch one with my cast net though. I cut him up to see what they have been eating, and I found a small crab in his stomach. Should I look for imitation crab lures instead of jerk baits and spinners/crankbaits?

The inlet is manmade, it starts at the bulk head, then depth drops to 10 feet, and it keeps sloping until it hits 60 feet in the middle. I'm pretty sure the bass stay in the 10 feet zone.

Please give me some advice, I've never caught a bass before.

Depends entirely where you live and what kind of /out/doors you have within reach. Since transportation seems to be an issue for you, maybe some sort of cycling would empower this more (cross country, road biking, bike touring, DH, etc.)

Archery for sure, (recurve). After the initial investment of the bow 100-200$ and say 6 arrows 50$, you don't have to spend any more.

You can practice all you want innawoods, you can hunt with it once you've practiced enough and you feel a bit safer with it by your side.

Furthermore as a time killer innawoods you can learn to make arrows.

Just be sure to find a decent stump or a hill you know you won't lose your arrows on.

Dear Sc/out/s,

So some survivalists opened up a store in my area and most of what they have is second hand. I have nothing against second-hand items. One item they have, priced at $25 and in near perfect condition is a Bear Grylls knife that was full tang/had a fire-rod in the sheath. I couldn't tell the model given the clerks were aggressively trying to show me everything in their store but the blade was sharp enough to cut my thumb if I had wanted to. I'm not familiar with the Bear-Gerber knives and figured I'd come ask you sc/out/s about your thoughts/experiences regarding them.

Thanks in advance,
CAMP-CRAFT.

P.S: Forgive me for my lack of etiquette; first time posting in /out/ and I'm not too experienced with 4chan either.

i would never buy his stuff, i aint no piss drinker + none of them have a brass knuckle hand guard so you can't punch the shit out of a bear when he decides to maul you.
>>
>>639658

I myself don't care for their knives...or Gerber for that matter. If you're not anal about steels, or need a beater knife, I'd buy it.

I do enjoy the BG ferro rod though.
>>
>>639658
decent blade, not the best by any means usually you're buying the name more than the actual knife

I'm doing Mt. Baker and Mt. Ellinor in Washington later this month.

Grab some friends and summit for free.
Fuck guided trips on a mountain with no need for a permit. Also, it's easy enough to do in 1 night. Baker is a cakewalk.

I have medium term plans to hike mount Kilimanjaro. Really the only factor is having the free time and money to go over to Africa, the hike itself looks pretty easy. Dunno if that really counts as mountaineering though.

Wool socks in particular, or apparently double socks if you've just got shitty cotton ones (I've never done it but a friend swears by it cause he's too cheap for wool).

The last one died. I have a question that might not be /out/ but I figure you guys might have an opinion one way or another. What does everyone think about the Paris Climate Change Conference? What do you want to see and how likely do you think real progress is?

Third world governments don't give a fuck. They will keep destroying the world for a cheap buck.
And as long as first world activist think hashtags will effect government policy's we won't be able to change things either.
>>
>>638779
I don't think that's very accurate. Lots of really poor countries are the ones that are getting flooded or extreme drought as climate change continues. The problem is that poor countries don't have much power to do anything as they aren't big emitters and don't have much sway with China, US and Europe. Also, going clean costs money that they don't have.
>>
>>638784
As China becomes a less financially feasible place for mass production we will look to even poorer countries. Kicking off "industrial revolutions" in t
these corrupt countries. Even if these countries legislate initiatives to prevent pollution it doesn't mean the industry will put them into practise.
I watched a Vice on pollution in China. There industries dump chemicals that will strip the skin right off you directly into water ways. There are laws in place to prevent this, they even have equipment to prevent this, it's just cheaper to dump. Since they have the equipment the industry and government tell the people everything is being done and despite protests and class action law suits nothing changes.

Kinda hard for me to help those who won't help themselves with basic research.
>>
How are you getting to your campsite ? Drive the car up, hike in, boat, etc ? If you have transport bring a chair, blankets/ old comforter / pillows, bring toilet paper, and its dark as fuck in the woods at night so bring extra flashlights and what not.

General advice:
-avoid dead fall above your tent location
-try to make tent location as level as possible so the rain fly will work properly
-poke around where you set up your tent and remove any rocks for comfort and also so you can actually get your tent pegs in the ground
-bring garbage and zip lock bags, they take up no room and have a million uses

Your not gonna starve to death so just try to get a good nights sleep and stay hydrated.

Hey Sc/out/s I am looking for a handheld GPS I can use with international maps. I have been looking at the Garmin GPSMAP 62 0r 64 series. Does anyone know more about these? Can anyone explain why the old model 62's cost more than the new model 64's?

Just use your phone OP. Get a waterproof case, a solar/battery charger maybe. You can call, take pictures, download outdoors maps (if jailbroken for free), etc....

How about no. Phones are great and all but I've yet to find an android app that allows you to mark, tag, and plot like a gps handheld.

62fag here. Get the s model, base model lacks extendability and barometer / compass; higher models have a topo map already installed and / or a useless camera.

Display is tiny but well readable even in bright sunlight. Routing works best for max 20 miles when using the hardware device, no limits when using pc software (besides very derpy experimental routing).

A modern phone would outperform it in terms of CPU power, but will only be useful with power tank.

64 should be a step up, so wondering as well about pricing.

Yes. If you are the prop casting director in the next Rambo movie production.

If, No, then I would say don't buy anon. Your money could be spent on so much more, like a haircut, and stylish clothes that will help you get laid the next time you're visiting the milkbar.

Hey /out/ wanna rate my gear?
Ive taken it on a couple overnights, but I want input to what I could adjust to make my pack a bit better. A few things I am going to add from the experience I had on the over nights.
-even though I live in FL I still need some kind of insulation in my hammock. I'm thinking an under quilt or some type of blanket. I'd rather just bring my picnic blanket cause it's one side fleece and the other is waterproof.
-Yo-Yo mechanical fishers and speedhooks.
-Gaiters.
-Maybe a Firebox but I'm still on the fence on this one.
Not pictured:
Rothco Waterbottle Carrier
Stanley Headlamp 3xaaa

I'm not going to list this kit in any particular order:
- IFAK (R.A.T. Maxpedition Wallet)
- Tool Kit (Ferrorod-Lighter-Lighting-Whistle-Riteinrain-Watch-Boker Oilpen-Sharpie-Compass-DC4-Thermometer)
- Tarp in Drybag
- Maxpedition Rollypolly Extreme Backpack
- Gtg Fatboy (Once I break camp I like to go light when I'm hunting/fishing)
- Woolrich Safari hat
- GSI SS cup
- Merino gloves
- 3 emergency ration rice packs
- Blue Desert Hydration system for SS Guyot Nalgene
- Nalgene Guyot SS 38oz.
- Guyot SS 32 oz.
- Frogg Toggs Light Poncho wrapped in Bungicord
- Grand Trunk Ultralight Hammock
- Rope
- Two Point Sling
- Bahco Folding Saw
- Bk16 in leather pocket sheath
- Bk14 & Flashlight in leather pocket sheath

I plan on buying a Ruger GP100 in .357 and a Ruger 77/357 for woods use. This is in February. At the same time I'm going to buy a Vepr in 7.62x54r but this will be too heavy for anything more than 3 day trips.
