I am about to go on a kayak camping and fishing trip and am a bit nervous because I have never done it before.
I have everything ready but have had to strip down mostly to the bare essentials in order to save space.
Just wondering if others have experience doing such trips and could share any tips they might have that save me having to learn them the hard way?

The only two I have watched are Mushishi (pic related), Princess Mononoke, and, to a degree, Spice and Wolf (including the books), all of which are among my favorites.
What others have you seen that you would recommend, preferably ones that are highly aesthetically pleasing and capture the essence of the outdoors very well, which should be implied, but I'm clarifying anyway.

Also, Not really /out/ related but I watched Serial Experiments Lain when I was out on my first 5 day trip and it really intensified the sense of isolation and loneliness I had. Bretty good 5/5 anime though.
Any Ghibli film. Non Non Biyori has a great country setting. Samurai Champloo has lots of traveling to different environments.
How has been the winter this year where you live? Seems a lot warmer than previous years, almost no rain either. Good times to go /out/ here in Europe.

Been rainy. Really not that cold...not even cold enough to wear pants or a coat.
Last year in New England we had an essentially snowless December and January. January in fact was in the 40s and 50s every day. Then we got 9 feet of snow.
I trust nothing. Yes, we had a snowless November this year, and it's rather tepid for december, but I don't trust it. The board is set. The pieces are moving.
After recovering from a bad ankle sprain last month I though this would be the perfect time to learn to cross-country ski since the weather would be cold and the trails I run on are normally covered with snow and Ice.
It snowed 1/2" last week, and it was gone by the next morning. No snow probably till after Christmas, just rain/freezing rain.
Fuck you El Nino.

I'm an overly cautious person, so I would say you're never safe until you're certain you've erased 100% of the evidence.
Sure would be a shame to waste that meet and lose the antlers but if the cops show up with a warrant based on a cell phone pic or some shit you're fucked when they find the evidence.

Traditional/classic/historic pocket knife general.
What do you have/carry? What do you like about it? What made you choose it over something modern? Has it ever saved your butt or some other cool story?
Anybody here make knives? I've built/modified a few pocketknives from Rough Rider kits and I'm really enjoying it. I'd like to start building from scratch soon, I just need a good mail order heat treat since I can't do it myself.

Danner. I've got a pair of old Danner work boots that have lasted a good long time. They've got Goretex lining and are completely waterproof.

Acadia, i just bought rhose couple months ago, solid. About $250_275.
A few questions, really I suppose. First off, what are the main things you look for in a knife you'll take with you on a hike? Secondly, why do you guys hate partially serrated blades so much? Just because it cant do a full sawing motion as smoothly? Thirdly, do you guys prefer to have a go-to blade that will last you a long time, or does it make more sense to buy knives to beat and throw out (moras)? Maybe I'm wrong about moraknivs, though. If I am, please, correct me.
For a belt type knife that could be used as a one tool option:
#1 5-6 inches long, so you can work with natural materials ~ 4 inches wide. A longer blade than that is typically unweildly for finer work
#2 High carbon steel so I can strike it with natural materials to start a fire. Stainless steel is acceptable if corrosion will be a big problem.
#3 90 degree spine so I can use it as a scraping tool, especially useful for using a ferrocerium rod.
#4 Minimum of 3.175 mm thick, for robustness and maximum tool usage
#5 Full tang. The weight savings are not worth it for a one tool option. Increases strength of the knife and easier to replace handle scales if broken.
#6 Plain edge, no serrations. Plain edge is more useful and easier to maintain.

I carry a folder with a half serrated blade and tonto tip on me regardless of whether I'm out or not for general cutting/utility, a military knife without serration on my shoulder strap when I'm out for minor wood processing, and a fishing knife when I'm out at the lake. So I may have as many as three, for different purposes.
There really isn't one knife that will do everything you want. If there was, there'd only be one knife in stores.

also forgot no cross guard. a single guard on the blade side is acceptable but a guard on the spine side serves no purpose outside of melee combat and will only get in your way as you use it as a tool and not a weapon.
Where is the GREATEST hiking experience you've ever had in your life? I mean, the one where you said to yourself "Okay, this is the most incredible landscape I've ever seen in my life".
Northern New Mexico right here. Between Santa Fe National Forest, Bisti Badlands, and every other wilderness area, I've never found anything else as incredible.
A close second is northern Wisconsin. It doesn't look like the rest of the midwest, and it's very eery.
Just last night actually. In the San Diego river valley. It was super clear out with a full moon. I was on top of a hill and the whole valley was lit up by the moonlight. While I was sitting and relaxing after around 8 miles of hiking, I saw a huge meteor with a bright flash, smoke and all. It was awesome. Of course my iPhone doesn't have enough exposure to do any justice.
The top of Mt. Whitney has a view that makes it seem like it is in the middle of Mordor. But it was certainly lacking in the fun for most of the hike. Though the trip did have some really fun individual moments.
My best hiking experiences have been when me and a couple others go super deep innawoods and leave all trace of civilization behind. The beauty is always in the isolation. When we spend a day fishing in a remote place without seeing a single other person, and shoot the shit at night by the fire.

this fall i was in Nepal to do part of the Annapurna circuit. to the highest pass (picture related) then pohkara - ghorka - Kathmandu.
my mind was literally blown, complete experience overload. just so much shit.
power outages, forest full of weed, avalanches, earthquake damages, hot springs, from alpine stone deserts at 5°c to jungles at 38°c. 3000m downhill in a day, and up 1500m the next. Flying with 70 year old Dornier propeller planes into the Himalayas. low budget with no hot water and toilets worse then a public train station....
