Serious question: If obesity is such a large killer, why don´t we do the a favor and kill them ourselves. It´s merciful to put the out of their miseries.

The answer is actually pretty simple.
If portals work through space time distortion, it's A.
If portals work through some sort of instant atomic assembler/disassembler, it's B.
The game never states how portals work, so it can be either of them.
>>7863410
>"science"
Its A, I'm pretty sure they mentioned something about space time in the game.
>>7863410
It's always B.
Energy is not conserved in Portal, and objects must always exit the portal at the same velocity relative to the portal that they entered.

What do you think about base 10?
Do you think there's a better base to teach math with?
What would be the worst base to teach math with?
I always thought a base that you could divide by 2 easily would be good, like 16.
In this hypothetical assume we are not used to any base system yet.
>>7882226
>Do you think there's a better base to teach math with?
No, we have 10 fingers.
The best base is base 12, because it is small enough and 12 can be divided by 2, 3, 4, and 6, while all the numbers bellow 12 have at most two divisors.
>>7882238
Actually, now I remembered that 12 is as good as 10 for teaching. You can use these things on your hand, dunno how they are called.

Hey /sci/,
Let's get a discussion about criteria for college admissions. I'm not from the US, so I don't really care personally, but I still find it interesting to discuss it. /pol/ can stay out.
So, does affirmative action increase racism? In my opinion, it absolutely must. Scenario:
You want a top engineer for some important project, and you have 4 applicants, all from MIT: White male/female, black male/female. Only by picking the White male can you be sure he was admitted by ability/talent alone. For all the others you can assume they are...

Affirmative action is an enforced regulation. Some companies have a quota to fill their spots with females or minorities so they don't give an impression of being discriminant, doesn't matter if they are qualified for the job or not. So in any case of affirmative action is in use, you don't get to chose if you should hide them or not, you just have to.
> opinion
discarded.
Yes, it is discriminatory towards certain races; whites and asians. This is an objective fact.

Yup, AA completely delegitimatizes the degrees of people from preferential groups even if they are the best in their field. Now instead of them achieving something in a system based on merit alone their merit is open to questioning. AA shouldn't exist.

Do any other smart people here get bored by normal people?
I've got an IQ of 150 and the inane things people my age say and do (18 years old here btw) gets old real fast. It makes socialising a real chore because I'm forced to talk about shit like snapchats and gossip for hours at a time instead of stuff like philosophy or politics which I prefer. Truthfully, it makes being smart more of a curse than a blessing.
>>7878762
Try science and math, if you want something intellectual to talk about. Philosophy is kindergarten tier.
Honestly I don't think my IQ is very high at all but I'm very sensitive to the "energy" that people give off.
I feel like I can tell instantly when a person is bored or annoyed when talking to me. I can't help seeing humans as more than smart animals. I don't really listen to what they say but rather how they act, and it can be very exhausting. Having a friend be super nice when you're alone with him and then turn into a completely different person in a group is heartbreaking to me.
I'm getting psychological help right now...
