How did humans figure out how to reproduce without being taught?
>>7702857
They were taught. By their parents

>without being taught
can you even read fuckboy
>>7702869
They were always taught. Get this shitty bait out of here
I was watching an episode of this miniseries on PBS called The Brain with Dr. Brian Eagleman. As you might have guessed, this is a program on neuroscience. The particular episode I watched took an aggressive stand against the notion of free will. By the end of it, I think my brain had a disconnect with its own fundamental sense of consciousness with many attendent effects.
Firstly, my environment expanded massively. This was my dad's house, something I lived in most of my life but now it was huge. Why? I suppose because the environment lost its sense of familiarity...

What you are describing falls into the category of pscychosis, not psychopathy.
Characteristic to psychopathy is disconnection from emotion, moral conscience and overall being maximum edgy.
Psychosis OTOH, is when you lose touch with reality.

you don't "momentarily become" a psychopath
psychopaths are born with a specific brain structure that makes it impossible to feel empathy(simplified answer). you either have it or you don't
also you sound like a 17yo fedora who took his time to go through a dictionary to write that
no you arent smart if you use word combos like "indetectible proustian memories" or , "providing information...

>you don't "momentarily become" a psychopath
Actually, by affecting the amygdala with magnets, it is possible to mimic psychopathy in a normal human being. See for example "The Wisdom of Psychopaths", by Kevin Dutton.
Also
https://wolfthiessen.wordpress.com/2011/08/01/look-a-psychopath-in-the-eyes-and-see-the-amygdala/
describes how damage to the amygdala in apes and humans alike produces traits characteristic to psychopaths, namely fearlessness...

I always thought that climate change was inarguable and factual. But then I found this video.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0gDErDwXqhc
What do you guys think of it? Is climate change literally just a meme?
>>7702762
There is something to it but almost always the tests are fudged. So there is no point in caring.
Yeah a youtube video isn't going to change my mind over years in university
Any issue that's been politicized has a lot of bullshit on both sides, that's something you just gotta come to terms with.
>>7702768
I'm just trying to find any arguing points against this video. What the guy in the video is talking about is the relationship between our models of global warming and the actuality. The entire video is just filled with data and graphs just like pic related, that show that our models greatly overestimate what is actually being happening.
He's not arguing that climate change isn't a thing, but he's arguing that the models show a greater effect than what is actually happening. Meaning that it'll...

why do we only use greek and english characters for variables?
why aren't there russian, japanese, etc symbols used?
>>7702746
>why do we only use greek and english characters for variables?
This isn't true at all.
We also use hebrew, blackboard bold and gothic to name a few.
>>7702749
Don't forget Comic Sans. :^)

Something about how Greek was commonly taught in European gymnasiums / prep schools back in the day. Slavic languages incorporate a good amount of Greek letters as well.
I've seen my Russian professor use Cyrillic occasionally in physics. He was asked by the students to stop because it looked like a squiggly mess. I'm in the US.
It doesn't seem logical for an animal to evolve a system of ending its reproductive capability after a certain age; in fact it would appear the opposite. It doesn't help the individual's reproduction nor the reproduction of its offspring, and it would appear to be beneficial evolutionarily to not have menopause and have women be fertile all their lives.
People aren't meant to live long enough to go into menopause.
>>7702658
But it would still be beneficial for the few times that they did live longer; wouldn't appear to have a non-good effect. Most animals don't have menopause, in fact.
>>7702654
animals don't evolve. Stop being such a plebeian dogmatist.
I live in Silicon Valley and I like to code.
Should I get a CS degree?
>>7702609
You don't need a degree, just go to college for a year and then drop out to start up a billion dollar company.
degrees are irrelevant
portfolio & work experience is what matters

Anyone here a member of Mensa? What's the admission process like? Are there perks beside the feeling of exclusivity?

It costs money and the people are mostly pseudo-intellectuals. That's what you get when you let in IQ's as low as 130.

well that would only be from my perspective. There is no way to have a completely objective public perception of reality because reality is consequential of individual perception. you're reality is what you perceive. there is no base line because we cannot experience exactly the same thing as someone else.
Are you ready for your finals this week /sci/ or are they going to fuck you in the ass?
I feel decently ready. I feel like I haven't studied for my analytical chem enough.
I have such crippling anxiety that I find myself drinking heavily tonight.

Yeah.
I'm at a state university in Burgerland so we're required to take what are called 'Diversified Education Curriculum' courses to make you a more well rounded person. Really they're just a nuisance that prevents me from taking more math.
In the order of operations what comes first, multiplication or division? Addition or subtraction?

I am having trouble thinking of of situations where it would matter, unless you are worried about overflow.

How does /Sci feel about this "new college"?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6rT00QXqZak
>>7702101
Making college pretty much free? I agree in the sense that college is really fucking expensive these days, but totally creating a system where higher education is dirt cheap doesn't sound that great either. More and more people will be going for college and getting degrees, thus, devaluing the worth of them.
>>7702665
I mean it's not like they haven't already. I honestly wouldn't care about the worth of the degree, just having cheaper resources/educations is better for humanity in general.
>>7702665
>Thus devaluing the worth of them.
It's not about you, though. If you think increasing the overall intelligence/education of an entire nation (or world for that matter) is bad in the long wrong you have a serious problem with how your perceive what a degree is about.
