Hey /sci/ I got an easy question for you.
No, it's not my homework, I've already solved it. I'll post the answer 41 minutes after this is posted.

Again, I'm not saying this question is hard, it's just simple but fun.

when the side of the small corner square is equal to 1/4 the side of the big square.

How did you figure that out?

Why are humans obsessed with archetypes/tropes? Think of MBTI or zodiac signs. Especially females.

>Why are humans obsessed with archetypes
It's easier to label something with a single word than with detailed stats.
>>
>>8039380
Race and gender are other examples. Humans seem to be obsessed with creating artificial social constructs.

We like categorizing things for simplicity.

Do you have a pet theory for consciousness? I'm really interested in how the sense of "self" arises in the mind. I feel like most of the other stuff going on in the mind is rather mechanistic - it gathers information from the senses and encodes it as concepts and memories. But the self is a mystery.

From what I've noticed, true consciousness and self-reflection only rises intermittently, when we aren't dealing with more pressing problems. Sort of like an idle state for the mind, or a focused daydream. And the "self" itself seems little more than a mix of memories to draw our personality from, plus current emotional state and some learned patterns of thought. Is the "me" thinking about this just a bunch of idle free association and recurrent thoughts?
Anyone have some personal insights about how the "you" that thinks about this right now, operates? Any interesting patterns you've noticed?

The self is just the external layer of many, many more primal layers, that extends till the reptile brain. I don't recall on any pattern from my own experience, but I know this:

-This "self" layer is very irrelevant, survival wise.
-This "self" layer actually affects the performance of other brain capabilities. For example, the less it takes control in physical activities, the better.

I always thought it could be even de-attached, for example, to pure logic processing. The bigger your concentration in one task, the less you are aware of yourself. Not a fan of it, told be truth. Consciousness is usually overestimated.
>>
consciousness is only the combination of all the senses mixed with an analytical mind, that's what gives the illusion of the self.
>>
>>8039327
First you must understand quantum physics. Consciousness is closely related to the collapse of the wave function.

This statement was said by some guy in my school:

Out of 1 000 000 randomly selected people at least one is smarter than you, and he said that is 100% true. I know the whole argument is stupid, but just for the verification.

He also said on average there is at least 1 doctor per 1000, he then said: Think about how many thousands there are in 2 000 000 (as we were talking about leafy's fan base, and I was arguing that it was cancerous and most of them were stupid).

so is he right or am I right?

What he meant is that you are in the bottom 999 999 of the population when it comes to intelligence. He sounds like a clever guy with a good sense of humour that can offend you without you even realising.

lol fgt, i was not offended, I was simply saying it is likely but not 100% certain (btw i wasnt the one being called stupid, it was my friend)

Why aren't more academics looking at greater depth into the Low IQ-Poor Health association, suggested by Satoshi Kanazawa? Surely if there is strong evidence supporting this then the global community will be able to put an end to the constant humanitarian crisis, and perhaps reduce violent behaviour (militant groups) simultaneously (due to the association).

If it is found to be the case, there would be reason (and hence funding) to make an effort to increase the average IQ through:
-Improving the gene pool by artificial promotion of intelligence as an attractive feature for reproduction (e.g. via propaganda)
-Promotion of the demonstration of intelligence as an attractive social feature
-Sterilisation of especially low IQ/High poverty individuals (if economically feasible)
Though the ethical status of the latter point is questionable at best; it seems warranted given the number of lives born into highly unsanitary, disease-ridden, high stress environments.

This is never gonna work. Women evolved to be anti-intellectual. They will always prefer the loud dumb tall Chad and will always despise the lonely nerd.

How easy should I be able to grasp newtons laws of motion and the problems in my textbook?

I'm having a difficult time being confident that I am aware of every force that is occuring in the problems, I will often forget one and every source of these laws seems to explain them in a more simpler or more obfuscated sense

I haven't been in format education for about 4 years and I am trying to undo a lot of time having my brain rotten away from NEET life

Draw more diagrams
Specifically free body diagrams
>>
>>8039095
Very easily. Sum of forces on body gives the resultant force. It accelerates that way. That's literally all there is.

Later on in physics you don't use forces at all - it's a very old method.
>>
If you get confused by forces, you might want to consider learning physics from Euler/Lagrange/Hamilton's point of view:

You know, this thread reminds me of a story I'd like to get off my chest about the arrogance of STEM people.

I was happily walking across campus towards our massive new shiny, glass walled multi-million dollar government funded cheme laboratory when I realized I need to take piss. And what would other building than the the Visual Art department happened to be the nearest? So I was walking through the old building noticing that even though they haven't seen funding for renovation in decades, they seem to have done a good job preserving and what they do have, it felt very cosy. The bathroom was kind of nice clean and the halls were quiet.

On my way out I happened to see an active lecture hall, the lecturer was quietly helping one student at the front while the rest worked so it seemed somewhat akin to a tutorial session. Everyone there seemed pretty relaxed and as if they actually had enough time to properly wash and get well dressed this morning, they put a clear effort into their appearance. I had a minute so I stopped to glance at some work the students were producing.

This experience made me realize 3 things:
>This lecture hall is filled with complete and utter fucking plebs.
>I could draw geometric shapes by hand better and more accurately after my 1st semester tech comm. class than half the hacks and idiots in this class who can barely draw a straight line.
>Our arrogance is completely justified, fuck these tards, arts should not be a real university degree in the 21st century, keep your hobbies outside academia.

Within OUR lifetime? Unless they come to us, then our chances are exactly zero. And they aren't coming to us so yeah, zero.

There would be some text describing another point of light in the sky.

That's it.

But think of it deeper. There would be proof against a geocentric universe for literally everybody to see. Surely that would carry some implications.

So what would be the actual contingency plan in case a 10-mile wide comet were expected to collide with the Earth?

Would they send probes or manned ships with nukes to blow it up like they do in da movies?

We'd know about it for at least what, 50 years? SpaceX would probably get contracted to nuke it into oblivion.

why dont airplanes have rotated formula 1 spoilers as wings if they are so great for pushing the cars to the tarmac?

but they arent shaped like that though, and airplanes have to be angled upwards to maintain altitude using a normal wing

Why is the field of mathematics so underpaid despite being relevant and applicable to so many fields of science and engineering?

It is if your actually studying a field where your using applied mathematics, which would be called engineering.
But you probably dream of studying topology or some other pure math nonsense.
>>
>>8038388
This. Applied math here. Even though all I do is numerical methods in a math-only context I'm in the department of engineering at my university. Hoping to go on to PhD and do more computational modeling.
