Actually the musical isomorphism makes a lot of sense.
Vectors have upper indices. 1-forms have lower indices.
The flat morphism lowers the upper indices to lower indices and makes a 1-form from a vector field... (by taking inner products with respect to the metric)

All I remember learning is some dumb trivia that didn't apply to anything, not the underlying causes for the reactions observed in the lab.

General rules for "underlying causes" were mostly in the end of the gen chem series, and then you move to higher courses to have those general rules corrected. You seem to want a free pass to avoid the "boring basics". Don't think you're going to get that.

I'm no engineering expert, which is why I'm asking you guys this. If someone were to somehow acquire an offshore structure such as an oil rig, would it be possible to expand off of it? How would this be done? At what point would support struts be needed to hold up any extra land?

Medfag here. I want to do research, and I've become more and more interested in neuroscience. I'm interested in things like "does the brain use more glucose when concentrating" (it probably doesn't), how memories are formed, and the interaction between neuroscience and psychology. I'm also interested in computational methods.
What specific neuroscience field seems fitting to go into?
Oh dear, I also want to become a neurologist to do research. That said I was considering neuropsychology, but I'd be equally happy without specializing. Also, the brain pretty much uses static levels of glucose, about 21% of the body's metabolic reactions can be attributed to the brain, no matter how hard you may be thinking.
