So /sci/...

Relativity, and the fact that objects in motion stay in motion, imply B. Because, if you ignore the left side, you've got the top 99% of a cube crossing the blue portal at sanic speed. You'd expect it to keep going at sanic speed.

However, this results in the cube picking up speed & energy from crossing the portal synapse, and people don't like the cube getting speed because the world around it is moving at two different speeds, since that's not what would happen with a hula hoop*, and these people would pick A.

Relativity still won't allow for the cube to fly out. The portal has no membrane, it's just a hole. It's a no matter how you look at it. Unless you want to make up your own laws of physics
>>
>>7876754
Yes it would, it's like a wormhole which implies B.

And yet you make bank, from that you can live a relatively comfortable and secure life. Now contrast with your friend, it's likely that he lives hand-to-mouth and probably worries about missing his next rent payment (even if he doesn't look it), moreover he'll probably never make it big so he'll probably hit his mid-thirties with very little to show for it and very few prospects.

You've got to remember that most jobs suck, the point is to get a job that allows you to live comfortably.

Over the past year, I've come to the conclusion that PhD programs are basically bullshit. I've come to the conclusion that universities are exploiting young people into working for low wages under the guise of "training and education".

>inb4 everybody already knew this,

yeah yeah, let me finish and then you can tell me to fuck off.

Through a unique opportunity, I am able to work in a university environment while being paid as a salaried worker for a start-up company. Basically, the university works cooperatively with a start-up company. On paper, I work for the start-up company at an engineer's salary -- physically, I work at university facilities and conduct "PhD-eque" research. This is a tech-field job (hardware). I work directly with university students but I am employed by a non-university company. I also have a Master's degree paid for by the company, but this is mostly irrelevant. I am 22 years old with a Bachelor's degree in STEM.

Here's why the system is bullshit.

>I do the exact same work as another PhD student
In fact, I was trained by a PhD student. The PhD student is 3 years into his degree. We now do the same work.

>I am making substantially more money than the PhD student
Typical PhD stipend is in the $25K -$35K range. I was making $55K from day one. I was making about $20K more money than my PhD conterpart WHILE HE TRAINED ME

>I am not bound to my professor/advisor for 5 years
The PhD has to have the consent of the advisor to graduate. The advisor more or less can block the PhD student from leaving the group. If the PhD student decides to leave without graduating, he has a massive black hole on his resume. He is SOL. If I decide to leave, I can spin it to look like solid industry experience. The only thing keeping me at work is next week's pay (and, to some extent, my previous student loans)

>If you become a post-doc, you continue to make shit money
Median post-doc pay is maybe $40K - $50K

The university system has indoctrinated an entire generation of young people into indentured servitude. The university would have you believe you are getting tuition waived, gifted a generous stipend, and setting you up for exclusive job opportunities. The truth is, they are paying $20K below market value and putting you into a position where you cannot stop working. What's more, they are attracting some of the best and brightest to their dooms.

Anybody have any input on this? Am I missing something? Just 2 years ago, I had my heart set on getting a PhD. Now I can't help but think the universities are just running a racket.

>math professors who do proofs in class
Whenever they do this, I immediately know they are plebs. Proofs are trivial. Show me the theorems, you brainlet. I can work out the proofs on my own.

Why do scientists believe so much that in the next one hundreds humanity will evolve into one single race with a universal skin color and how come nobody is upset about this?

If one of these near future humans were to travel back to our time would they view themselves as a master race compared to our variety of races?

And if we all migrated out of Africa and it is believed we'll all merge with each other. How come race never existed during Lucy's time?

These are reasons why I cannot take evolution seriously.

The fellas over at /fit/ and /pol/ are having a problem and we need your help /sci/

>>>/fit/36069624

The manlets when doing bench press only have to go to a 90 to 100 degree angle bend with their arms. Compare that to a person that is 6'2" and they are having to go to a 45 degree bend.

We need to develop a standardized chart of strength relative to range of motion and height. Was hoping you guys could help us out with calculating the mechanics for this

>>
>>7871765
The farther a given weight is from your body the higher the torque will be
>>
>>7871765
Energy spent on doing a bench press only depends on the distance the barbell is travelling. So a guy with longer hand is spending more energy because he is pushing the barbell further up.

But you are probably more interested in the power output (strength), since longer arm guy probably takes longer to do a bench press, I would say both of them are are using same power.

You divide the distance the barbell travelled with the time it took to do a single bench press and you will get something that is proportional to the power used.

I don't understand, how is hight related to the angle you have to move through? I just don't see how the two are related, surely everyone has to move through the same angle. Particularly with squats.

Here's my opinion.

Humanity is no longer subject to natural selection and therefore species is not going to change.
Sure you might get surface variations, and cultural changes.. Muslims flood into Europe rape the shit out of everyone and the recessive gene for blonde hair disappears from the population.
But the species isn't gong to change all that much.

Consider this:
Eskimos adapted to the Artic by learning how to make Parkas and Igloos. There was no natural selection for them to grow fur because of the human ability to make tools
Take away the parkas and the igloos and the Eskimo freezes to death just the same as a Pacific islander would.
And because of sexual selection, even if a successful useful mutation happened it wouldn't get passed on.

Like:
>An Eskimo is born with blubber and fur, so he can swim in the icy ocean and walk around naked in the snow for hours.

But he is also a repugnant freak that no woman will touch and is driven away from the village. No children for the next step in Eskimo evolution so it's a genetic dead end.

Eskimos transcended environmental pressure as natural selection and they did it without a written language or metal tools.

Am I wrong here? Will we become a new species?

Evolution never ends.

We are more likely to see the evolution of our species, simply because we are more likely to live now than we were in the past.

In the past, if you had a genetic disadvantage, you were much more likely to die than others. If you had a genetic advantage, you were much more likely to survive than others.

Because of this, people with genetic disadvantages died quickly and people who were neutral died more quickly once those with genetic advantages were significant in number.

Nowadays, even if you have a fairly severe genetic disadvantage, you are still likely to survive, simply because of our medicinal system.

Because people from all spectrums are more likely to survive, then we will become aware of genetic differences between one-another more quickly, simply because only a fewer of them will be eradicated than in the past.
>>
>>7871207
>simply because only a fewer of them will be eradicated than in the past.

Sorry, I meant "simply because fewer of them will be eradicated than in the past".
>>
>>7871193
>Humanity is no longer subject to natural selection
Kek, we're just more subject to our own selection actually since we shape our environments so much.

You have been kidnapped and are being held hostage by a man. He tells you that he is going to go out on the street and asks the first person he meets a question of your choosing. If the person answers correctly you will be freed and taken care of financially for the rest of your life. If they answer incorrectly you will be killed. The question must have a clear and objectively correct answer. What question do you ask?
