What if we are born without any senses? Can we perceive our own thoughts? As patterns? is that a sense? do we make choices based on that pattern?

Sup /sci/.
I was shit at math when I was a kid. Now I wanna get better. I still struggle with basic concepts like division and number comprehension. Is there a book that introduces these concepts, from the ground up, to an adult, in an intuitive way?

thx

>division
take one number and break it into another number of groups. That's division. You do this every time you split one pizza with 4 friends.
>inb4 you have no friends and eat the whole pie everytime

>number comprehension
How is this even a problem. A number describes an amount, a magnitude. If you honestly can't comprehend numbers the best thing you can do it sit in a corner and count until you understand.

Im going to keep this short and simple!
sorry in advance for my grammar.

I have ADHD like alot of people in the netherlands

That means that school is made very difficult for me without my medicines.

the company eurocept bougth all the rigths to the medicines i use and more then 30,000 other people and by buying the rigths it means no more unbranded signs are allowed to be sold...

Now thats not much of a problem?

well they made it so expensive that every insurance company in the netherlands whont compensate me so now i get a bill of $400 every month... wich means i have to choose either medicines and get a job to pay for them and no school wich makes no sense at all.....

Or no medicines and going back to school..... well that aint gonna work either

WHAT DOES SOMEONE DO IN THIS SITUATION?

The most fucked up thing is.... in the netherlands we have this magazine called the quote 500 that has the 500 richest people in there (localy)

IF YOU GOOGLE ANY OF THE FUCKING DIRECTORS NAME GUESS WHAT SHOWS UP FIRST? YEAH THAT FUCKING MAGAZINE

Drop the medicine, find another solution.
For some it is meditation, for others it is relaxation.

Most of ADHD cases can be prevented by force of will.

OK, so imagine you got $50,000,000 in funds for any research project you wish to do. All legal restrictions on whatever (radioactive material, embryonic research, etc.) have been lifted. Your lab is the size of a football field. But the catch is that you must pick four of the following people to work on your project with you:

- Jacob Barnett (Physics)
- Kurisu Makise (Neuroscience)
- NJ Wildburger (Mathematics)
- Neil deGrasse Tyson (Physics)
- Bill Nye (Mechanical Engineering)
- Shinichi Mochizuki (Mathematics)
- Thunderf00t (Chemistry)
- VSauce (Education)
- Ben Carson (Neuroscience)
- Angela Merkel (Chemistry)
- Richard Dawkins (Biology)
- DJ Patil (Data Science)
- First poster on this thread (whatever field they are in)
- Allison Rapp (Computer Science)
- Elon Musk (Aerospace Engineering)
- Nikola Tesla (Electrical Engineering)

Who would you pick and why?

Hi /sci/,

I'm working on a theory to enable FTL travel. Suppose that the universe is contained inside the event horizon of a 4th dimensional black hole, and the expansion of the universe - roughly 479 times the speed of light as observed from the centre - could be explained by the growth of the singularity and thus the gravity well. We can never move away from the singularity, thus any point beyond the observable universe is permanently unreachable to us.

Within the event horizon of a 3D black hole, there are three dimensions of movement, however the Z dimension is inextricably linked to time; you can't take any course that would lead you further from the singularity. However, you could take a course on the Z dimension that moved you towards it faster; effectively accelerating time. The factor by which time is increased is the factor-1 by which you could multiply the speed of light to obtain your maximum velocity.

If we can figure out how to travel in the 4th dimension, we can break the speed of light within the reference frame of our universe.

>>
Do you have any facts to back that up? How does this fit in with relativity? In relativity, any FTL travel is time travel
>>
>>7997756
math please
>>
>>7997759
>In relativity, any FTL travel is time travel
Correct, but rather than travelling faster than light in a local reference frame, we're accelerating time in a local reference frame.

Thus we never break the speed of light locally, but in the reference frame of the universe we're moving FTL.

>>7997763
Just as soon as I figure out how to move through the 4th dimension. Or did you want my math on the expansion rates?

I was reading a thread that said "a proposition and its negation being false cannot be proven".

Something and its negation being false cannot be proven? Of course it's false.... (Everyone in New York is gay) and (Not everyone in New York is gay) is false because either everyone in New York is gay or not... What other proof do you mathematicians need???

The process of "splitting the atom" or nuclear fission which breaks apart the nucleus of one parent element, creating two daughter nuclei and some excess energy in the form of neutrons and gamma rays which then go on to carry out more splitting of atoms in a chain reaction
>>
>>7999614
Some elements like uranium and plutonium are naturally radioactive. They spontaneously release neutrons which go into other nuclei. This makes the other nuclei unstable so they decay as well, continuing the process. If the neutron doesn't go into another nucleus, the reaction will die out.

However, if you do have enough together, they will decay in a chain reaction. This releases a shitload of energy since each decay releases a bit. You can get enough material together by imploding it to make it more dense, adding neutron reflectors, and just adding more of it.

That's a regular nuke. A hydrogen bomb has one of those to start it, but it uses the energy from that to start fusion, which is when deuterium and tritium, two isotopes of hydrogen, fuse together releasing a neutron and a shitload of energy. You can add more fusion stages to increase the yield, you can play around with the primary shapes (not always spherical but most are) and you can do boosted fission which is a mix of both.

Obviously there are a lot of details I skimmed over but this is the gist of it.

hey /sci/, would VLSI be a good field to get into for an ECE student? The only downside I heard about it is that you need the grades to get hired out of college, but I have those.

How many classes have you had dealing with VLSI? Also, how much circuit experience do you have? It can be a very tedious and rigorous subject but you can work at some very cool places
>>
>>7996719
I am a frosh planning out my curriculum for the rest of college, and deciding what track to take for my capstone project senior year. As you could imagine, I have not yet taken any formal classes on VLSI, but do have some experience with circuits. I find the topic very interesting, and plan to self teach myself some basics about it through books as well.
>>
>>7996730
Are there other subjects you are interested in? Your question seems weirdly worded since it really depends on what you find the most interesting subject is. Certainly VLSI can be a good focus area for your technical classed but there are others as well. Do you have any more specific questions that would help guide you toward finding an area of interest?
