I'm studying to become an engineer, and someone said to me that the best way to do it is to "learn how to learn." Does anyone have any tricks for learning material quickly/efficiently?

meme degree, you'll be fine
>>
>>7731493

It's the most versatile degree in existence. You can apply to medical school and if you don't get in you're still an engineer. You can take the Mathematics or Physics subject GRE and get a high score and get into pure math/physics grad schools too.

I don't really know which board I should post my question on, but I assume this board is filled with people from the United States.. so here we go.

I am a Dutch citizen applying to M.I.T., to do that I need to do the SAT + 2 subjects. However, only one date is left, the january one. I can't take the SAT and the 2 subjects on the same day.

Does this mean I have to wait another year? I know it's quite late to apply to a university, but waiting a year really sucks.

Also, to keep it related, how hard is the Math level 1 and Biology SAT?

>>
If you have to ask about the SAT's difficulty, you shouldn't be applying to MIT.
>>
>>7731278
This. If you were MIT material you would have looked this up about a year ago. You can still go for it though OP. Yes you will probably need to wait another year if test dates don't work for you.

Would you take a Critical Thinking OR Symbolic Logic class?
11 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>7731098
No. Probably not.
>>
>>7731098
Critical thinking is something you should have developed on your own as a child. Taking a class on critical thinking is like taking a class on breathing or walking. Only the most deficient individuals need it, and they are most likely so deficient that they cannot even learn from it.

this is the course description

>This course is designed to bring students to a critical awareness of the function of argumentation in the various forms it takes, both in the academic realm of logic, as well as the everyday world of television, newspapers, and other forms of communication. Students will examine how arguments are constructed and the means that are used to make an argument convincing. They will learn to critically analyze arguments in order to detect careless language use and fallacies. They will also learn various types of arguments. Students will be graded on weekly problem-solving homework assignments and re-writes, collaborative fallacy presentations, a mid-term exam, and a comprehensive final exam.

Data analysis route, going to read grad school books on econometrics, machine learning, etc. since I don't like school.

Also long-time programmer so C++ w/ Python sounds cool.

Does /sci/ enjoy astrophysics?

Yes, I love astrophysics! But I must ask what is that image you posted? I looks like some kind diagram for a space hole or something of the like. Why is that bright light culminating in the center of it?

My astronomy teacher once told us a lot of it is speculation, don't know how i feel about it now.

Are stars just a meme?

How are the expending so much fuel proportional to their mass?
It's literally insane.

Nothing can possibly burn for that long. NOTHING.
WHERE IS ALL THAT ENERGY COMING FROM?

And please dont shitpost with your primitive compressed matter or reaction theories.
Common metals are as far as the universe will allow densities to occur, there is very little room for higher densities, and matter is not squishy either. Each molecule of matter is an absolute size what does not change shape.

And there is no type of reaction which is possibly describable by human science which would allow such a condition of a star burning for billions of years.

yeah bro
its ok to call it burning

molecules are flying out of it at a rate of 'you dont fucking know' per second

where are they coming from?
nothing can possibly burn for that long

inb4 shitty neutrino density theory
you cannot possibly be cuked any harder by faggot neutrinos which probably dont even exist

Anyone else here that can do calculus in their head but can't do simple arithmetic in their head even if their life depends on it? I have all A's in every single math course including all my calculus courses but I can't do simple math really fast so I end up using a calculator
60 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
i can't do long division for shit. i have to look it up every time i try.
>>
It's probably quite common. An effect of doing calculus all the time but never practicing mental arithmetics.
>>
You just described me perfectly. First year calc is peasant tier and I can do large geometrical calculations/ complex integrations in my head but I struggle with basic addition and subtraction that a middle schooler could do faster.

>despite my good grades I have done NOTHING EVER that is intellectually impressive or original in any way
>even if I did well in chemeng I still would be shit compared to the physics / maths / CS autists

Is chemical engineering academia respected? I feel so intellectually useless.

pls tell me that the maths / CS / physics autists are doing useless rubbish. I can't handle being so worthless in comparison with them.

Why the fuck do we even have engineering degrees when a guy with a physics degree could learn anything I know within 20 minutes, but not vice versa? What was the point of my fucking degree?

>Physics major false flagging trying to start a major politics thread.
/sci/ is pretty stupid, but not that stupid to fall for this.

Anyway since major politics is retarded I'm hijacking this thread.

>>7732711
>Alan Turing
Turing is overrated. Allied propaganda made him overrated so they can steal the patents for the computer without making it seem like more Nazi science they looted.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konrad_Zuse
A German built a general purpose ELECTRONIC computer 3 years before his stupid mechanical atrocity was even up and running. This is despite his work being bombed 2 times and having minimal resources as opposed to Turing who had a peaceful time with huge support from the eternal Anglo's many resources.

On the theoretical size Zuse beat Turing too, developing the first general purpose language called Plankalkül which is still studied even today (it's "Turing" complete btw)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Konrad_Zuse#Plankalk.C3.BCl

If you're into major politics nonsense he was in fact an engineer, but if you're not retarded you would've figured out by now that undergrad is irrelevant and it comes down to individual talent and hard work after graduation that really makes a good researcher.

>>7732711
come on OP, im cheme student and I had similar thoughts as you do, but I dont think physicist are able to learn our material in 20 minutes, physical chemistry? fluid flow? analytics, inorganic? For us it might be easy but trust me for some people its fucking drama to learn these things.
We will be able to find job very easy, and if we want we can go deep into science by for example phd so we lost like nothing
Why dont you go to some research group? Im in electrochemistry research group on my uni and its pretty dope.
If you work hard enough maybe you will be the next tesla of chemistry :D he was an engineer too so..

Hey guys, just wondering if hypnotism is real or not. I'm asking because we had a hypnotism show at my school, and the people hypnotized were doing some ridiculous stuff. This website talks a lot about it, so maybe its real.

>Humans are social creatures :))))
My whole life this statement confused me. Why do introverts/people with social anxiety like me exist, /sci/? Are we mutants? Are we cursed?
19 posts and 2 images submitted.
>>
You didn't grow up with enough people around. Especially girls.
>>
>>7732559
Nah OP is just a mutant.

Grew up with zero girls around, not even my mother, spent every night studying or on private hobbies.

Still extroverted once I got to university, I love talking to people, any random person would do, even boring people.

It's a fundamental facet of our species that allowed us to develop faster through trade and (in a more original sense of the word) memes that eventually gave us philosophy, mathematics, science and engineering.

We owe the existence of the modern world to those of our ancestors who talked to other people.

How would the physical aspects Force work scientifically?

I'm talking Force Awakens force, like stopping laser blasts in mid air, force choking, full body paralysis, and throwing objects, and all that.

Star wars is, at most, technological fantasy. It's based on Greek mythos. Don't think in to it as sci fi. That is all.
