Is there a formula to solve this by hand, or do you actually need a graphing calculator for it?

My professor is insisting that a formula was given to us, but I can't find the damn thing in any of my notes.

15 KB,
I have a question about prime numbers that might not have a proven answer, but here it goes.

I'm using the term 'gap' here loosely because I know 'primes gap' is a real term concerning the areas where we haven't established where primes may or may not be.

However, my question is, what is the largest 'gap' possible between every prime?
in other words, if gap = difference, the gap between primes A and B implies that in the range between those numbers there are no primes left, what is the maximum difference between A and...

This gap you described has no bound, meaning that for every natural n there are two primes p,q with p-q>=n so that there is no prime number r with q<r<p.
>>
>>7727321
That literally is the definition of a prime gap, [math]g_n = p_{n+1}-p_n[/math]
That gap increases to infinity. That doesn't mean there's a finite amount of primes, it just means it gets arbitrarily large for high n. Interestingly there's times when there's a huge gap between primes and then there's a twin prime right next to it.

an update to a post from 5 days ago:

I asked this board whether it was possible to cram for Organic Chemistry in 2.5 days 9 (and pass with a decent grade) if I hadn't studied since the midterm and gotten 43% on that exam.

Most said it was impossible or that I might eke out a 50% if I was lucky

You're either all complete idiots or enjoy demotivating people because it's easy as fuck to learn how all the reactions and mechanisms work in two full days of study. Final was easy as fuck. 3 step synthesis problems easy as fuck

anyway good on...

Let's talk about medicines that the western world ridicules but is actually useful and effective.

1) Cannabis - I don't think I really need to go in to depth here. The uses are numerous and it's incredibly safe when eaten or vaporized.

2) Colloidal silver - Potent antibiotic. Very safe. Undesired side effect if applied topically and then exposed to the sun - can turn the skin blue. Although this is very rare and easily avoided. Robert Becker demonstrated that if you apply colloidal silver to wounds and pass a small current through the wound, tissue...

1) Lots of western nations allow cannabis for pain/nausea treatment. It has no other proven uses, really.
2) Antibiotics developed since, I dunno, 1910 are far better and less harmful. Mostly it's alt-med bullshit these days. Passing current through any wound stimulates healing; the silver has nothing to do with it.
3) No.
4) No.
5) No.
6) Perhaps. Or you could end up like my yoga teacher, with a fucked up spine, unable to walk or sit properly. Almost everyone who does yoga regularly ends up with a serious injury from it.

Sup /sci/,

I'm just about to graduate with a BS in Biology next week, but still have a thesis to write, and I'm fairly confused.

We're supposed to write a 10 page paper about an experiment conducted in the lab, having done so with a different paper as a reference for the experimental outline, and I doubt I could fill 10 pages. Most scientific papers are less than 10 pages and the experiment we conducted in the lab was fairly simple and straightforward.

What's your experience with undergrad theses? Any advice?

WHAT THE FUCK
>>
>>7726772
Well, we're supposed to include graphs from flow cytometry and provide an introduction about the specific chemical that was used to test cytotoxicity, which is basically the whole experiment. Materials and methods, conclusion, etc.

I mean you could easily fill some 5 pages, but 10 is really a stretch and I'm wondering how people do it.

Hey /sci/ I wanted to ask this question to either you or /k/ I figure this board makes more sense.

Hypothetically speaking if the U.S. government and all private military industrial corporations and the like tried to produce the maximum amount of tanks, planes, boats and guns just how many could they produce in a day? How about a week? A month? A year? Answering just a day will answer all of these but still.

I'm having a hard time trying to google just how fast the U.S. Government and private corporations can manufacture.

If the relationship is: govt pays while industry manufactures then it would depend on how much the govt is willing to pay. If govt pays enough, industry will respond by creating more manufacturing plants to meet the demand thereby increasing output capability.

"Eating lettuce is over three times worse in greenhouse gas emissions than eating bacon"
How could this possibly ever be true?

I live in an area with lots of natural rainfall, and lettuce grows in my yard for 2/3 of the year. But all I ever did was plant seeds and the food just grows out of the ground, raising a pig would be thousands of times more resource intensive

>Higher resource use per calorie

This is not surprising at all. Vegetable crops generally require a lot of water, pesticide and fertiliser to be produced on a large scale, especially when compared to cereals. They also have very little calorific content when compared to meat and cereal crops.

Makes sense they require more fossil fuel energy, and more natural resources per calorie.
>>
>"Eating lettuce is over three times worse in greenhouse gas emissions than eating bacon"
>How could this possibly ever be true?

Did you try reading the research that they reference?
>>
because of the high amout of calories in bacon compared to lettuce you would need a lot more lettuce to get the same amount of calories.
But the thing is you wouldn't really eat all lettuce for your calories, you would supply with bread or something else high in carbs to get enough calories. Can't seem to find the original research though. I'm just lazy maybe

Did Newton and his contemporaries take the fact that gravitational acceleration is the same for all masses for granted?

I mean let's pretend masses don't "generate" gravity like newton thought. If you released two metallic objects of different masses near a giant magnet they wouldn't necessaritly accelerate towards it at the same rate because their resistance to acceleration is not the same as their magnetic attraction because they're unrelated.

Why didn't they see that it's too much of a coincidence and a convenience for...

that's not what I meant at all. You can replace magnetism with any magical force. Just to show that having two unrelated things happily canceling out is too much of a coincidence.

Could you be a little more specific what you mean? I don't really understand what you are saying here exactly.

As far as I know Newton didn't propose that all masses feel the same acceleration in the same gravitational field.

Newton's law of gravitational force (equation A) states that 2 interacting objects feel the same FORCE much like 2 electromagnetically charged objects (equation B).

However the acceleration itself can be calculated from the Newton's second law of motion (equation C) where we see that acceleration is same with the...

Thoughts on this book?

The guy basically says the optimal diet for human health and longevity according to science up to this point is one that minimizes all animal products and processed food, maximizes whole plant foods, with as much variety as possible, and includes a vitamin B12 and DHA omega 3 supplement. He cites 3000+ research articles.

Bullshit or accurate?
18 replies and 1 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>7724701
Accurate. Though lean meats like poultry can be alright.

Neu5gc along with how most meat is raised, makes the majority of it non-viable. American in particular massively overconsumes meat in a way we as a species likely never have.
>>
The final word on that is there simply isn't enough information to be sure. Diet is incredibly complicated and everyone has their own opinion.

Not to mention people from different parts of the world have different tolerances for certain foods; i.e. Lactose tolerance in European countries and you can't put a blanket diet on all the people of the world and say that that is the best.
>>
>>7724701
Meat is fine if it is raised properly. Livestock ingest too many chemicals these days. Try to get natural shit. Eat less processed garbage. You'll do ok.

I should practice what I preach.

Why is this allowed to happen?
I just came across the most extreme example yet: Lorentz contraction.
There's a tonne of simple math out there that allows you to calculate the amount of distortion something will have, but seemingly no explanation for what causes the distortion, and an abundance of confusion as to why a fast moving object looks short.

The formula was derived empirically. The equations explain what was being observed, but there was no theory for what was happening.

Special Relativity explains why objects are warped in spacetime at relativistic speeds.

Movement through the aether

>Surprising as this hypothesis may appear at first sight, yet we shall have to admit that it is by no means far-fetched, as soon as we assume that molecular forces are also transmitted through the ether, like the electric and magnetic forces of which we are able at the present time to make this assertion definitely. If they are so transmitted, the translation will very probably...
