is there something i'm missing in my textbook? why the hell is y=1? and not -1?
23 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
does Z2 not denote a field of mod 2, in which case you would get (y + 1) mod 2 = 0
?
>>
>>7775561

Isn't Z_{2} the quotient group Z/2Z, so that 1=-1 (mod 2)?
>>
>>7775582
this
add the two equations together as stated in the solution

2x + y + 2z = 1

2x = 0 in Z2
2z = 0 in Z2
Therefore you're left with y=1

I stopped being pleb and read up on general relativity, time dilation, etc.

Already having some background in math and an intense logical debate with a buddy that took a day, we wrapped our heads around it.

But now I can never look at reality the same again. And everyone will think I'm crazy.

You, be existing are technically bending space-time to some degree

You have mass, therefore you have gravity.

You are technically affecting every planet and galaxy across the entire universe.

Not only are you made of chemical compositions that are in earth buy have most likely consumed and been made by extraterrestrial matter.

Is 4-6 hours sleep detrimental? Where can I find reputable studies on low amounts of sleep.

I never get sleep, and I note that with too much as well as too little my mental functioning is lowered.
>>
>>7775407
8-6 hours is what you need. Anything less is bad for the heath and anything over is actually even worse.
>>
>>7775407
It's genetic. It might take some googling, but look into it if you want to be depressed. Some people only need 4 hours to completely clean their brain of waste byproducts, while others need 10+. Tends to run in the family. Life isn't fair and all that.

There was an interview with a woman who would always wake up ridiculous early automatically, so she started running in the mornings. She talked about how she gets to live two lives because she has so much time. I don't have it saved anymore.

And I know a man who barely needs sleep. Needless to say, he's very happy and has lots of money.

jesus christ get off from 4chan you old ass guy. you shouldn't be hanging around image boards and shit if you have a family.

You're probably too late, you have to foster an interest at a young age.

You can try now, but don't expect it to go well. Do something that looks impressive and is easy to do based on your field of study, e.g. if you're a chemist do an iodine clock, if you're a biologist build a 6ft model DNA helix with him. If you're not in any fields you can use, just get a teenager's chemistry set and do those with him.

Or watch Breaking Bad.

What are the most usual laboratory practices and techniques learnt and done in a biology degree? I know it can vary from university to university so Im pretty open in that matter. Can anyone link me a list or something?
Thank you

It'll vary based on your concentration. In microbiology, laboratory classes basically get your feet wet.

>Intro to Micro Lab
Pipetting
Aseptic technique
Media inoculation
Slide preparation
Biochemical identification of microbes

>Micro Lab II
Media preparation
DNA extraction, purification, and quantification
Transformation protocols
Bacterial culture

>Food Microbiology Lab
This was basically application of techniques learned in Intro Micro lab to identify foodborne pathogens. The only difference is we used a stomacher to homogenize food samples before spreading on plates.

Honestly, don't stress the molecular techniques. Just make sure you can pipette worth a damn, work a scale, and your aseptic technique is straight. Also, be sure you can do basic lab math. Goddammit, undergrad research volunteers can't calculate anything worth a damn. If you can do those four things, you'll be all set to learn the more nuanced shit you'll learn while working in a lab.

Basically you'll be micropipetting different substances.

What kind of sci-related hobbies do you guys have?

I've got some money and time for the first time in a while and I'm thinking of picking one or two up before I head off for college next year (I'm doing my gap year). Is building small-scale UAV/Drones still accessible without paying thousands?

I built a fusor once. But otherwise my sci activities consist of reading books.
>>
If you can get your hands on a 3D printer with a 6x6 or larger print bed you can make a quadcopter/drone for cheap.

That being said, you have to pay anywhere from 140$ to 300$ for a small 250 size quadcopter with GPS and decent hardware...

If you want one of those huge DJI sized ones you'll be paying around 400$. Better than 2k for the real one though.

Also, if you break something you can just reprint it or make new parts yourself, assuming you have a 3D printer to use.

Btw, this is all hands on soldering wires, trial error, and coding. I made one myself, and while its a pain in the ass, its rewarding. I can build anything now.

If you cant get a 3d printer, you can still buy kits, but its significantly more expensive.

Can any of you show me how to solve this? This isnt my homework or anything but I am practicing for a numerical methods class I have this semester.

define a function that returns 8000 - the right hand side of the volume function and replace b with a/K.

Then all you have to do is use a root finder or optimization routine to solve for a at every K.

Then b then S from the saved a and K values.
>>
>>7774653
>Recent high school graduate who will be first entering college later this month reporting in.

If my understanding is correct then for any value of K you need only replace a with Kb in the volum formula and then calculation until you have something like

8000 = c*b where c is whatever constants result from multiplying 1/4 times pi squared times all that a b shit going on. Then you can get b. and because a = kb then you can also get a.

Then plug in your values of a and b into the formula for surface area and you are done.

So... from what I can gather Numerical methods is just basic algebra?

Man, I used to be impressed when I read engineering curriculums include 'Numerical methods for engineers'. Now I know that should read 'Basic algebra for people who didn't do enough high school'.

Anyways, please tell me if I am incorrect and also

>inches

for fucks sake man, that is heresy.
