Hey /sci/ I'm at university studying engineering but I feel kind of disheartened, because it wasn't what was expecting, and I'm thinking of transferring to a Physics course, because I really enjoy physics and math. How are Physics courses at university? My only desire is to do lt of physics and math with no bullshit Management and Business.
tl;dr I don't like engineering and would like to do Physics.
There is no Business and Management in Physics degrees, there is also no Jobs at the end of it.

I have a problem that I can't resolve in my mind. If you have an Archimedes Screw in a tube am I right in saying that it is impossible for air to flow through the tube faster than the speed of the screw? I need to know this for an invention that I am working on.

I have a questions regarding the origins of human intelligence. Somewhere along the lines of evolution some species species became as intelligent as a human and thus became human(?). Was this "event" a sudden mutation in a single individual or a series of mutations over the course of time in a population?
I guess a better way to put it is did some proto-human end up way smarter than its peers and thrived and reproduced because it was so much smarter? And then its descendants went on to out compete everything else? Looking at human history it looks like we kinda...

no he/she became a tiny bit 'smarter' (you could also call it more succesful, better-adapted, got eaten by other animals less often) and some of his/her kids even an additional bit more then, too, then the next generation again a tiny bit more, and so on and so on

I just started learning how to code. When am I going to get to start using all of the cool math I've learned? So far I'm mostly just using algebra and arithmetic in the books exercises. I've had multi variable calculus, linear algebra, discrete math, intro to group theory, probability, and regression analysis

You just shift all n's to the left by 1.
[math]a_n = a_1 + a_2 + ... + a_{n-1}[/math]
The reason you don't do this is because the equation doesn't work when n = 1 (what's [math]a_0[/math]?). You'd have to specify that the equation only works at n > 1 which makes it more complicated to understand.
If you take [math] a_0 = 1 [/math] then [math] a_n = 2^{n-1}[/math] for [math] n\geq 1 [/math].

Natural Language Processing in computer science is about that. Except they go into it at a very granular level. They try to capture patterns, statistical or compositional, in language by breaking it down. It doesn't get us far enough to start reasoning about high level abstract rules in writing.
But... I agree with you. Discipline should be enforced with your writing. Your story and plot should be structured, but the way you communicate it might have to be less stringent. If you're communicating...

I learned basic programming using java and I think story generation is quite interesting.
But my current idea would be like approaching in terms of analizing plot structures, and seeing stuff like tropes and how they relate to produce the stories we see.
I wanna approach it like how music theory does it, with it's use of patterns (tropes, scenes).
I even see a story like a some kind of musical score where each instrument (character) plays a pattern/melody/phrase (trope).
