What does /sci/ think of dual n-back games?
Will they turn me into a genius?
U know what will turn u into a genius?
Actually studying
They won't turn you into a genius, but it can increase working memory, which is linked to IQ. So training it over longer periods of time has been shown to correlate with an increase in IQ. In any case, instead of playing flabby pird or some other shit, you might as well kill some time playing n-back games I suppose.

Yes. You will become so intelligent that you could solve open problems in mathematics as soon as you hear about them. You will be able to deduce all of mathematics on your own just by pure reasoning, without having to read any books.

Why is western pop science so shit?
Idk, but for some reason, anything new and innovative always for some magical reason always happens in the western world

What's the fastest way to mentally estimate whether the square root of some large number (5-6 digit number) will be a whole number?

bruteforce prime factorization with a really big computer.

What number it ends in is a good place to start. It can certainly rule some things out.
What would it be like if muons instead of electrons made up the currents that flows through our electronic devices? Is there something like a muonic device?
>>7973563
myons can decay, electrons can not
>>7973563
probably a slower current/device
>>7973563
assuming we dont care that muons decay, youd need more energy for the muonic device. You want your carrier to be as light as possible, which is why people are trying to make photonic devices.
Me and my gf both love bugs. We'd like to raise some larvae into beetles, moths, etc. in our free time and taxidermize them when they snuff out. Any entomologists here that can recommend me books or pointers about this? I really have no idea where I would start. Was hoping to ask /diy/ too.

/sci/ I want to change my life. Lately I have been zoning out because I feel like I'm stuck in a routine and it's making me sick. I've never felt as fulfilled as when I was back in high school learning, but my family was going through a lot of struggles back then. I'm a romantic so I thought of following more fleeting dreams, but now I'm being realistic. I want to go to university and do something worthwhile with my life, and to make my mother proud. When I see the people around me I just get tired.
But I need more opportunities in order to better...

What do you mean by "from scratch". What do you know already?
Also I don't know about america but here in europe you can just enroll at university for like 300€. So just do that an do as much of the basic courses in whatever subject you want to as you have time for. Just expect a lot of frustration at the start bc the pace at university seems to overexert students that aren't used to it.
If you feel like you don't remember enough from high school to enroll directly, here in...

Though to be brutally honest I don't see someone like you having a very fulfilling career in current economic climate even if you get through your degree, at best you'll probably end up in some tech/finance job that is about as interesting at whatever monotomous thing you're doing for money right now.
Good luck though. My advice is to study and develop for your own interest, not for the promise of a job you will never get. There are plenty...

Can anyone get into university in Europe? I thought it had strict admission requirements, or anyone just study at some of your shittier institutions (assuming there are some non-shit ones)?
What is your opinion of Photoreading?
Basically this guy says it's possible to read and comprehend pages of word by taking a mental picture of it, basically flipping pages and looking at it.

The office is to be air-conditioned. Each cubic metre of office space will require approximately 60W of air-conditioning power to cope with the the site conditions and daytime use. The ceiling of thenoffice is 3000mm high (3 metres). Determine the size in watts (W) of the air conditioning units required for the office area.

I was working with sums and products (I'm really new to them, but I'm trying to get a better understanding of them) and I came across pic related. I didn't download it from anywhere, btw, I used LaTeX to type it out.
I know why the denominator is the product of the terms, but I don't understand why the numerator is equal to the derivative of the denominator.
Any ideas?
For instance, when a=3, it equals
4x^3 + 18x^2 + 22x + 6
----------------------------------------------
x^4 + 6x^3 + 11x^2 + 6x
The numerator is the derivative of the denominator. I'm very confused here, /sci/.
>>7972770
It follows from [math]\displaystyle \frac{d}{dx} \log(f(x)) = \frac{f'(x)}{f(x)}
[/math] since [math]\displaystyle \sum_{n=0}^a \frac{1}{x+n} = \frac{d}{dx} \log \prod_{n=0}^a (x+n)
[/math].
>>7972817
Then why does the sum turn into a product function in the numerator if f(x) stays the same the whole way through? I get it logically in the denominator, but not the numerator
Anyone cop anything neat that's science related lately?
I just picked up this Ohaus analytical balance for $150.00 on eBay. I was half expecting it to be too good to be true, but took the gamble anyway, and I just set up and calibrated the thing and it works perfectly.

How do we know we are moving forward in time?
Maybe the real force equation is F=dV/dt, and we only see it as -dV/dt because dt is negative due to us moving backwards through time?
>>7972386
>>7972603
I don't understand this, can someone elaborate a bit.
I'm not OP and I'm not a retard.
Also to answer your question OP, if we were moving backward in time then gravity would repel, not attract. That's fine you say, why not? But then the big bang, and the primordial mass that began the universe, would've been the end of the universe, not the beginning. It would've been impossible for that primordial mass to form and end the universe as repelling gravity would be working against it.
>>7972386
Why is it so difficult for people to understand there is no such thing as time. It's just a mesurment for change.
That is it. Everything degrades was quicker then others.
