Once you taste the drug that is pure mathematics, everything else feels boring.

That is kinda right pal.

How far in to 'taste' the drug? I'm highschool math+halfway through spivak right now. How much more until the addiction sets in?

What are your thoughts on The Fermi Paradox and why intelligent life has not contacted our civilization by now?

There is no paradox when you consider how rare life is.
>>
>>7975863
I think it's because no organisms are currently inhabiting our small part of the galaxy or maybe universe (I emphasis currently). Maybe at one point there was an group of organism. Populations of organisms might just not live long enough to evolve into complex intelligent life forms (Intelligent enough to survive catastrophic events). This also applies to life on earth, In all likelihood, sometime soon (A few million years), life will be totally wiped out.

>males on average have larger total brain volumes than women (by 8-13%). On average, males had larger absolute volumes than females in the intracranial space (12%; >14,000 brains), total brain (11%; 2,523 brains), cerebrum (10%; 1,851 brains), grey matter (9%; 7,934 brains), white matter (13%; 7,515 brains), regions filled with cerebrospinal fluid (11.5%; 4,484 brains), and cerebellum (9%; 1,842 brains). Looking more closely, differences in volume between the sexes were located in several regions. These included parts of the limbic system, and the language system.

Outrage incoming. Funny how scientific facts won't matter when fee-fee's are about to get hurt
>>
Isn't the difference in volume just due to the fact that male bodies are larger on average than females'

Two things:

1) Neanderthals had bigger brains than humans and they went fucking extinct, and were dumber. This point illustrates how your insinuation is based on your lack of understanding of basic biology. Off yourself.

2) Don't off yourself yet, off yourself knowing that there are women in STEM RIGHT NOW with smaller brains than you and have achieved a lot more and are far smarter than you will ever be.

This basic probability question was posted on the board /b/.
Since so many retards and autists struggled with this, I'm taking this to the maths board to see if the stupidity lessens.

It's 50-50, since you can rule out the grey box. It's also a feint of the Monty Hall problem, which is probably where the stupidity comes from. The difference is so slight that it's almost unnoticeable.
>>
If there is a gold ball in the box, what is the probability of the other one being gold.

[math]P(G|G) = \frac{P(G \wedge G)}{P(S \wedge G) + P(G \wedge G)} = \frac{1/3}{1/3 + 1/3} = \frac{1}{2}[/math]

>I counted from the first day, as I've heard the memes countless times, and it was literally 50% male, 50% female. It was almost amazing how there were exactly as many men as there were women.
>just 3 weeks have passed since the first day of the semester
>Since monday 2 girls suddenly disappeared but obviously I just assumed they were sick or something.
>Today our calculus professor tells us that both girls literally just dropped out
>One transferred to liberal arts, the other to business administration
>This is where the 'no womyn in STEM! Therefore STEM is sexist!' meme comes from
>Women literally can't handle it
>That is somehow our fault.

Oficially the mathematics department in my university is sexist, as there are now more men than women.

Anyone got similar experiences, regardless of what you are majoring in?

Maybe this is just a one time thing and STEM is actually sexist, who knows?

I've talked to senior research scientists (females) about this and they all agree that sexism in STEM is pretty much BS. Can't you just dismiss it as just another popular culture phenomenon like everyone else?

question about bad sight here
Is it possible to make a photo in such a way that a person who needs glasses would see it perfectly without glasses?

So somehow blurring the picture in such a way that a miopic person would see it clearly when looking from the right distance/angle etc.

no, because blurriness is lack of information. You would need more information in order to let a person see better

What book is that? because its written like shit

What he does is let [math] x(t) = \hat{x}e^{i\omega t}[/math] with [math] \hat{x} [/math] some constant because you know that the position will be a function of [math] t [/math] only in that form.

Plug this into equation 23.3 and differentiate and you get 23.4

A huge chunk of PhDs awarded are for people like Melissa Click who literally go to cons to study fandoms.

Also, turns out a lot of people are inherently retarded.

For example, for thousands of years philosophers have made arguments for the existance of god, only for their argument to be destroyed by the next generation of philosophers. But the punchline is that both those who do arguments for god and those who do arguments against god... BELIEVE IN GOD.

I've always known that people who study philosophy are retarded but seriously. Thousands of years of easily disproving pro-god arguments and no one has made the connection that maybe, JUST MAYBE, god doesn't exist.

Lets just give the philosopher brainlets a couple thousands of years more, I'm sure they can make it.

How do we defeat sleep? We could get so much done without sleep, and you would never have to deal with that feeling of waking up or being tired. Current drugs only get you so far, and even then you risk psychosis.

All I want to do is watch my lectures, do hw, shitpost on the interwebz, ride my motorcycle for days, binge on netflix, make more money getting a second, well paid fulltime factory job. I want to be able to drive for 2 days straight only having to take a break to piss/shit, eat, drink, and take in sights.

Could you imagine a world where we don't need sleep in order to function normally? Why haven't we tried figuring this out? Do you actually like sleep, does it give us an excuse to be lazy?

I'd rather not have an 80-hour work week for half the hourly rate, if it's all the, same to you.

Why would you actually get the extra time free? Society will adjust, just like how women working didn't make the average family twice as rich despite having twice the income.
>>
>>7980547
>~ half the hourly rate, if it's all the, same to you.
Are you Gman?
Also, let's assume nobody has to have an double their work hours a week to work full time. But you do make a good point about society adjusting to fill the 8-12 extra hours without sleep.
