Shattered Horizon
Alien: Isolation is GOAT
The abandoned space station setting is really atmospheric and manages to recreate the original Alien vibe perfectly

Star citizen will be as /sci/ approved as EVE, probably worse. At the end of the day both are still talking game mechanics > realism
I think Aurora would be sci-approved but I don't think anyone here is actually good enough to play it. It's more difficult than Dwarf Fortress.

Spent more time with space engine in the last months than with modern AAA titles.
And I am never bored of it - it's just frequent crashes that make take a break.
I always discover new things, new ways to discover new things ... and since I learn new ways to discover new things.. I want to discover more of the new things in an huge universe - and I don't mind finding two identical things again and again because hell space is big and it feels amazing to find something somewhat identical.
Reminded that games that contain violence, crimes and so on are anti-sci as their keep brain regions underdeveloped and hurt more than provide any good.
/sci/ speaking it's healthy for the games to play complex platformers - studies were done on super mario 64 on DS - because of the double screen and focus on both screens ( one 3d second 2d ) - 30 minutes / day for 2 months led to serious positive improvements in test subjects brain. ( they haven't played other games but super mario 64 )
- games like Sonic kart, Mario kart games - seemed to improve.
And this is all just a recreative way to keep your brain healthy.
There are studies that show excessive gaming not only hurts your brain now - in the moment you're finished playing but all that pointless usage of the brain leads to serious cognitive problems later in life.
Role playing games and violent action games are the worst for the brain.
But 5 - 10 hours / week of an non-violent action game leads to great improvements as well.

Do you have proofs?

So what about racing sims? Any major improvement from playing them?

Sim Earth, I learned more about the planet using it than in my entirety of High School Science schooling.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AOtbazBWijw
Sim Ant, same as above but with ants.

Railroad Tycoon 3, most realistic economics engine out of any game I've played. (I'm an Economist)

Where do strategy games with fantasy (i.e. non-realistic) violence such as MOBAs fit into your bullshit conjecture?
What about Starcraft?

Same guy:
The previews on those videos are SHIT.
Sorry, they don't do the games justice.
Sim Earth taught me the workings and importance of albedo, axial tilt, cloud cover, sea flows, ocean heat, wind currents, continental drift, and much more amazing stuff that doesn't show up on the video due to the reviewer being a moron.
Same with Sim Ant, which taught me about pheromones, ant colony structure, communication, and the like.
RR3 portrays hostile takeovers, realistic price structures, a realistic boom-and-bust business cycle, industrial chain structures, and a realistic market behaviour when it comes to transporting goods.

>Railroad Tycoon 3
GOAT, but it's too easy. Just buy newly established milk farms, oil wells, and orchards. Spam industries right next to raw materials.
Capitalism is much more realistic, but less comfy.
PS. Economics sucks, Love OR.

Oh man I did not bother to give the studies - but yes I tried my best to refer only to the conclusions of the results.
I have found in close reach this info graphic for you tho.
Google effects of gaming on brain - and articles should give link to university studies - you'll see there parts of what I said. Some studies are harder to find but I mentioned pretty much all the conclusions.
>>7865734
They only tested sonic kart game and it showed improvements - haven't read in any study about any other racing game.
And trust me I have read most studies about gaming and I will continue to read everything that pops out.
>>7865753
Any form of perceived violence activates and in most cases decrease brain activity in prefrontal lobe - as your brain has to shut down most of natural mechanisms in order for you to experience that virtual reality.
You'll still get the benefits action-games provide but with a cost... if you want only the benefits listen to what studies said - research on your own. I was just friendly and tried to point some ideas out because its the subject of the thread.
Games like simcity, banished and even starcraft help the brain big time - resource manegement, it doesn't have to be starcraft - it has violence - obvious constant violence.
And it's not because we pussy-out on violence - it's because this is how brain work ... and the general interest of people here is to have an healthy work and improve it with every oportunity

holy fuck. I seriously though I was the only nigga that played this shit.
>mfw I never had a clue what "avenger" meant until years after I played the game
Is The Ur-Quan Masters /sci/ approved? Also, who's your favorite race?
Universe sandbox^2
I'm surprised by the fact that no one mentioned it.
>>7865077
Doom 1 and 2 were better though imo. I could play those original dooms all fucking day and it just pumps you up so much, but while doom 3 is a good game and scary I tend to get bored with it.
what about puzzlegames? what does /sci/ think about the talos principle, infinifactory, space chem and TIS-100?
>>7864911
KSP is okay, but as soon as you get beyond the Mun mission, all the other exploration missions are just "do the exact same shit you just did, but with planets X, Y, and Z" and it gets old real fast.
>>7866545
Its a euphemism for our own space program
SpaceEngine is pretty great. Also: free! http://en.spaceengine.org/
>>7865861
That image is total bs. Real studies have shown that video game do not increase violent behavior and can even reduce it as a stress relief.
If space engine & KSP had a baby that would be /sci/:The official game

how the hell did they study it ?
