What limitations are keeping this from reality? This being a personal craft capable of independent vertical liftoff, and able to travel out of earth's orbit and back

What is /sci/'s opinion on the modern scientific and social consensus that race "is a social construct"? i.e.
> "muh race doesn't exist"
> "muh no biological basis for race"

Do you agree? Are there any benefits to humanity in accepting this belief? Can it end racism?

This is a valid question for this board. I want to hear /sci/'s opinions not /pol/'s.

Our opinion?

Race is not used in biology anymore, not even for other species than humans. The concept has no scientifc meaning anymore.

If you want to discuss race, give us a rigorous definiton of it to do so

How good do I need to be at Math to be good and Computer Science?

You mean CS, not programming, right?

For CS, you probably need to be pretty decent at math. I.e. you've made it through linear algebra and other upper level maths. For programming, you just need like fucking pre-calc or some shit.
>>
personally i think it's not the math itself what you need, if not the mind that allows you to be good at math...

If object A is moving to the left with the speed of light and object B is moving to the right with the speed of light at what speed is object A moving relative to object B?
16 posts and 1 images submitted.

Speed of light. And those objects are light.
>>

Speed of light + speed of light = 2 speed of light.
Simple relative motion.

Do you want some Arab going Allahu akbar and driving a portable nuke to your house?
>>
We have to wait until the jews have made enough shekels on available fuel. Also hydrocarbon fuel will never run out, just fossil fuel.

Economics is the future.

You can't just throw hydrogen into a car, you have to make the fuel first.

That would require renewable energy infrastructure first to be sensible.

How many solar powered hydrogen fuel factories do you see?

>people misunderstanding conservation of momentum
>people actually think this is impossible because the chair isn't heavy enough or that it's impossible to jump up during free fall, rather than the fact that if your legs were that powerful in the first place you could simply land on the ground and survive

>if your legs were that powerful in the first place you could simply land on the ground and survive

I suspect this is not the case.
Your legs and spine would absorb the energy of the wall, causing massive trauma.

If you, however, pushed off the chair, you would be imbuing it with your kinetic energy. The chair would be obliterated, you would survive.

Always jump with furniture. It maybe save your life.
>>
>>7743990
It is impossible. You'd be moving too fast, and your legs wouldn't be able to create enough downward force to slow you to a safe speed. But I'm assuming you're just trolling, so carry on.

What are some theories that are currently considered "fringe science" but are now gaining traction in the scientific community?

What are the most outrageous or supernatural-like things that are being confirmed scientifically? For example, telepathy, time travel, teleportation, life after death, etc.

False. Retard.

No, it is not. Nerves fire off pretty fast,, yes, but remember they have to convert electrical and chemical energy every step of the way. It happens pretty fast, but not near the speed of light.

Undergrad chemical engineering here. I recommend the following books:

For thermodynamics:

Engineering and Chemical Thermodynamics by Milo D. Koretsky
Introduction to Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics by J. M. Smith

For transport phenomena:

Transport Phenomena by R. Byron Bird

Try the last editions, but the old ones must be fine too.

The speed of light is constant right?

What if everything in the universe is traveling the speed of light all the time?
48 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
>>7745151
well if i remember correctly the relative speed of light is always the speed of light.

if you think about that, the only thing u can change about light is its frequency.

if you move toward a source of light the frequency increases (blueshift), and away then the frequency decreases (redshift).
The relative speed of the light is still the speed of light. But thats just off my memory dunno if correct
>>
>>7745157
oh, i'm interpreting "the speed of light is constant" wrong, it's relativistic speed of light is constant.
