I'm twenty-one now and have wasted much of my life, some of it being my fault, some being the fault of others:

1) Wasn't diagnosed with Asperger's until already an adult.
2) Had a difficult time in primary, secondary and early stages of college due to ASD.
3) Had everything fed to me on a sliver poon and thus lack motivation.
4) Had a daughter at age twenty.

So, as of now, I am enrolled in college on an "Access to Higher Education Diploma" in science; modules in chemistry, biology and higher math (for some reason they don't...

Wrong board. Go to /adv/ next time.

I don't know if this is bait but I'll answer,

Medicine is a long journey, and you will hate it unless you are passionate for it. For medicine you will need to take 4 years for undergraduate, another 4 years for medical school. and then one year as an intern, and minimum of 3 for residency.

PhD is similar, 4 years undergraduate, ~5 years for PhD, then maybe a post doc.

If you're interested then do STEM, there isn't a way to get...

Not possible, you'd need an Einstein–Rosen bridge.

Nope and nope, see:

OP, it's just not gonna happen, unless your rocket is also a time machine.

What is the probability of getting only one 6 in three six-sided dice?
36 replies and 4 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>8158675
Binomial
>>
>>8158675
Just a single 6? not at least one 6? If its just a single 6 its equal to the probability of not getting a 6 at all which is 5/6 subtracted from the probability of every combination of numbers which is just 1 or what ever whole fraction you want to represent 1 as.

so a potential of 216 different outcomes means that the probability of not having a single 6 is (5^3)/(6^3) which is 125/216.

So 216/216 - 125/216 = 91/216. Therefore you have a probability of 91/216 to get just a single 6. Which I my calculator says is 0.42129
>>
>>8158675
50% as you either get it or not.

Dank memes aside. You want to get the probability of getting one '1' which is 1/6 and then not getting a 1, twice.

(1/6)(5/6)(5/6) = 25/216

This neatly rounds down to a 10% chance.

So
What are the complex numbers? why were they created and how did they came with the ideia of add a real number with ''something'' to get to a point? what and where is this point?

Defining the square root of a negative number yields i. From there you can form the complex shit.

Real numbers sit on a one-dimensional real line.
Extend this line with one extra dimension and you get a two-dimensional complex space. You still have all the real numbers but now you can move along the complex dimension as well.
>>
>>8158423
Let's say you want to find the roots of the polynomial x^2 + 1.

What are they?

That kind of question led to the invention of the complex numbers as a way to give every polynomial at least one root.

It happened, IIRC, in the 1500s with people like Cardano and root finding competitions that people used to show off.

Just WTF is this fuck? How can we came to this absurdic conclusion?

IMO this dramatic moment in science is when common sense and understanding were expelled from physics. After that point break, physicists feel free to create any metaphysic and idealistic concept as long as it explain the experiment.

Do you care to explain what are the problems with it?
>>
Indeed, the limits of our brain to comprehend the quantum realm are well known. You have to let go of classical physics as you perceive them, because shit simply doesn't work that way in the quantum realm. If it explains the experiment, is well tested, and can be replicated, we can prove these unintuitive phenomena to be reality.

Will a high IQ brain lose IQ after brain damage? Or does high IQ allow for more regeneration / existing neurons to work more efficiently?

It completely depends on the damage. You have to be way more specific.

Hi IQ guy here (top 1% of respondents in 3 occupational tests) with brain damage (to cerebellum following two separate strokes induced by a vertebral arterial dissection)

Cognitive functions for the most part unaffected - abstract reasoning still very good and verball (written) expression remains strong. memory (short and long term) patchy to say the best though. I occasionally lose my train of thought when talking. have difficulties managing multiple thought stream simulataneously (particularly in high pressure situations). If tired feel vague and wooly headed.

Hi /sci/

could you help me out on this one please:
is it possible that

(1) a-b < c-d

and at the same time

(2) a/b > c/d

where a, b, c and d are from the one-dimensional Euclidean space of real numbers strictly greater than 1.
If this is possible, could you show me a proof or a link to a proof?
Best, /sci/addict
29 replies and 2 images submitted. Click here to view.
>>
>>8158055
no
a=2
b=3
c=8
d=6

a-b=-1 < c-d=2

a/b=2/3
c/d = 4/3
in fact this counterexample works for any a<b<d<c since a-b<0, c-d>0, a/b<1 and c/d>1.
So no your equation is not true
>>
Yes:

3-2 < 99 - 97
3/2 > 99/97
>>
Great! Thanks so far! I get the counter example and the generalizaton of the counter example. Still, is there another "general" proof that would kind of rewrite equation (1) and show that if (2) was correct too, a weird contradiction would result?

So I found this bit of code to produce a dynamic neural network. It's supposed to simulate a network making decisions, that are represented by attractors (pic related).

The code to run the model is in table 2 of the following book chapter:
http://people.brandeis.edu/~pmiller/PAPERS/Encyclopedia_of_Computational_Neuroscience_Decision_Making_Models.pdf

Now, I have no fucking clue how to produce those nullclines (thick red and green lines), in matlab specifically. What do they even represent?

Please help!
