Hello.

Say I have two numbers and I want to find the first number that is divisible by both of them.

What is that process and/or resulting number called?

oops I should have read that before posting it lol

I meant to say "least common factor/multiple"

What would happen? Assuming both the 2-way and regular mirror are "perfect," satellite quality.

Depends what else is in the room. Probably a lot of silver. Thing is, we can probably empirically test this.

The same thing that happens when you put your head between two parallel mirrors
>>
>2 way mirror

you know this isnt a real thing, right? its just glass that is partially mirrored, and when the room on one side of the mirror is brighter than the other, it's really hard to see from the bright side to the dark side

If there are alternate universes which have different fundamental constants such as c, is it possible that pi could be different? what would this look like?
10 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>7958786
well yes but if c was different then all of the other fundamental constants would probably be different as well.
>>
>>7958833
c changes in water but circles are still circles bcuz pi = 3.1..
>>
>>7958833
Not at all necessarily all it would change is any equation with c factored in

What are the most common techniques for production on the nano scale and how could they develop in the future?

how long until it will be affordable to manifacture MEMS for the individual?

>how long until it will be affordable to manifacture MEMS for the individual?

You have to understand that even if it was affordable for an individual to manufacture MEMS you'd still have to deal with scaling effects. So it's unlikely an individual would have much use for them at this point.

Why aren't non STEM degrees not obligated to have one class teaching about the scientific method? Fuck it, even STEM degrees should.

There are people in my country that aren't exposed to science (only math) since they were 15yo (9th grade). The amount of stupid shit people believe is retarded, and I'm pretty sure every stupid belief they have is because they don't understand the scientific method.

Even a girl in my biology degree, believes in stupid shit. Like chemtrails for example, she spams facebook with that shit. How are these people allowed in a STEM field in the first place? I've linked her a video, where a guy has a book ON FUCKING CLOUDS explaining and debunking chemtrails. She said it was a good opinion.

TL;DR - Give me a good reason why people in non STEM fields shouldn't have a class explaining the scientific method in depth.

Because college doesn't make you smarter. It just gives you more information.
>>
>>7958552
read any philosophy of science work and you'll find out that the scientific method is fundamentally flawed
>>
>>7958555
A big part of college is learning to evaluate and learn things yourself. What OP is suggesting would be useful in that context.

So what are all you guys thinking of doing instead of maths and science when DeepMind will be better at all logic based industrial applications within the next 10-15 years?

Obviously the only place where it will be terrible is at social areas of work, so I'm thinking of perhaps studying to get into social work as this will be much harder to automate. I also read recently that a fair amount of business requires soft social skills and that the analytical component is not nearly as determinant in how much you are paid in the long term.

So, now that STEM is a dead end, how are you planning on getting into social studies where the real earners will be?

You are retarded if you think they're going to achieve anything meaningful within 15 years
>>
>>7958389
>STEM is a dead end
lol, ML programmers and CS types are going to be the only ones with jobs in 20-30 years

just lel if you think all those 'soft skills' aren't going to be trivial for a machine to mimic. A machine is going to be wittier, more pleasant and more engaging than you with access to the world's knowledge. What makes you think you can compete?

Hello /sci/,

>a fluorapatite-like remineralised veneer is formed over the remaining surface of the enamel; this veneer is much more acid-resistant than the original hydroxyapatite, and is formed more quickly than ordinary remineralised enamel would be.

If after brushing my teeth, i put some toothpaste in my mouther and keep if for a few minutes instead of direct rincing, do you think it'll speed remineralisation up?

There's a better way, there are fluoride products made exactly for that reason. Ask your dentist about them.

>>
>>7958208
What does remineralisation even mean?
for what I know you can't regenerate enamel (at least not faster than you'll lose even with best hygiene in thi whole Indian country)

Does it harden the teeth?

>an MBA gets you more pay than a PhD, for roughly 1/99999999999 the work involved in getting a PhD

What is this gay world we live in?

Anyways, math major here. Statistician seems like a comfy job to me but so are all the other math jobs except for banking stuff. I'd rather be a programmer, data scientist or actuary. Also, actuary is the highest paid STEM job that there is. It is a no brainer to go there.
>>
>>7958179
What about Quantitative Analyst positions (banking)?

Generally, I feel like Accountants are more under-supplied at the moment than Actuaries.

Also, what about a Maths Teacher + Entrepreneurship combo? You get a salary for working 75% of the year, plus it's Maths so you don't need to prepare lessons, just wing them.
>>
>>7958196
>What about Quantitative Analyst positions (banking)?

I've heard that makes a lot of money but the hours are deadly. I wouldn't sacrifice my well being when every other job I can get as a math major will pay me more than enough to sustain myself.

>Maths Teacher + Entrepreneurship combo?

The last thing I'd do is become a teacher, even considering the benefits. All of my time studying maths I've been bombarded by people who say 'Oh, so you want to be a teacher?' and I say fuck them.

I don't want them to be right, and I'll do anything to make sure that they are not. As of now, I work part time as a programmer.

And it is not only my ego, I don't want to teach retarded kids, and much less do I want to teach retarded adults.

About starting my own business, that would be pretty neat. I did a couple of retarded phone apps when I was in high school and this month they earned me 20 cents. I will definitely try to build upon that, specially after I graduate and have a lot of free time.

What do you guys think of De Broglie–Bohm theory of quantum mechanics?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
De Broglie-Bohm theory sounds like if you went to Jamaica and Jamaicans fucking hated the "Bohm theory" and "broglie" is a Jamaican word for "bad"
>>
>>7958170
I literally couldn't give less of a fuck about the interpretations of quantum mechanics, I don't care of that pisses some people off. The fact is as it stands there's no way to choose between them, they either reproduce all the predictions of QM or they don't. As far as I'm concerned this is a question for philosophers (and so should be on >>>/his/) but even then arguing over the interpretations of quantum mechanics has to be one of the most boring debates in the philosophy of science.
>>
>>7958170
it is a contextual theory, so, since most physicists are not meant reflect on their work and be critical, but just praise whatever model is popular during their studies, it bugs people off more than anything.

Does masturbation destroy your brain cells or is it a myth? Each time I masturbate i feel dumber, have more trouble to concentrate, have a shorter attention span, have shittier short term memory...etc.

The actuarial math programme at my university also has even less pure math classes than most applied degrees despite only being offered by the math department.

Then agian it's much more difficult to get in and stay in the actuarial math programme and actuarial math students are far more respected than pure math.

If your goal is to impress real, serious people and get a decent job you made the right choice. If your goal is to impress some loser autist on 4chan -we'll actually I still respect you more than pure math undergrads to be honest.
